Questions & Answers

SCOTT V : I wear a 34-35" waist in jeans.  I have a 5mm full wetsuit.  Based on the feedback I've been reading in the reviews....I don't know what size to order?Mario C : Hey Scott, yes reviews on this one are particularly all over the place.. i do believe that starting with the size chart is a good idea keeping in mind that is using actual waist measurement - with no suit and XS scuba does size it larger from there since this is wetsuit drysuit compatible.. you know me.. i will not guarantee fit.. i do believe that for the 5mm suit, with the very stretchy material the Medium will be perfect with you 5mm suit.. the very nature of suit fitting challenges is what created our PFF program so shoppers can buy with more confidence knowing we will stand up and offer free return for size exchange on the same model originally purchased. thx again for the good question, that should help more people in the future. Dive dive dive!!!
JACQUES L : I have waist 33" so I could order either M or L!! I plan to use only with wetsuit (3, 5 and 7mm). Which one should I order?ABHISHEK A : Medium for sure. Even a 7mm wetsuit will only add 14mm (~ 0.5") to your waist, and they stretch quite a bit as is. Better to have it snug so the cargo pockets don't flop around while you dive.JASON J : I would order the Medium, the material stretches quite a bit.
Shopper : I'm a small woman diver (approximately a 24" waist, 5'1'' in height) but these shorts see like a great option for my diving needs. Do you think a small will fit or are these constructed primarily for men? Will they be hopelessly large?DAVID H : I am a larger person, and I ordered the size that I thought would fit and it was fine. I have worn it in Palau without a wetsuit, and in other places with a wetsuit. It's fine if it's a little tight because it stretches nicely, and it's no problem to be a bit loose. This product is AWESOME. I am a GUE diver, so I like to have my things in the right place when I do recreational diving without my drysuit. I am very glad that I bought these. I might buy another pair as a spare, because every time I like something it stops getting made!CHRISTINE U : If it is possible, get an XS. I myself have not used them but my husband and his dive team swear by them!!! Hope that helps!!ABHISHEK A : I'm a guy and I have a SMALL size of the X-shorts (my waist is 30-31"). The X-shorts waist seems to shrink down to approximately 24-26" as best as I can measure, with the short cuffs measuring about 19" diameter. I'm going to guess the SMALL size may end up being a bit large on you. The cuffs would very likely be loose on your thighs, causing the pockets to swing around to the front when you're in a horizontal trim. I hope this helps.ALLISON R : Based on my experience, they are constructed for men and will be hopelessly large. I am 5'2" size 6-8 and they were massive. The legs are quite baggy and the waist is huge. The waistband itself is very thick. These shorts would be good over a really bulky drysuit. They are very well made and the pockets look indestructible -- I would recommend them to anyone who wants heavy-duty shorts and a loose fit. As an alternative, I found some 1 mm ones by Scubapro that are a slim fit but stretchy enough to go on over a thick wetsuit. The pockets are not as strong and they don't have all the D-rings, so that's the trade-off.LISA G : I'm a 5'3" woman (size 26 jeans), and I wear these shorts with a drysuit. They will probably be big on you, but there is a waist cord that you can snug up. These shorts are the best option if you don't have pockets on your suit.
Shopper : I'm using a Dive Rite Transpac with integrated weight pockets. Will these pockets & the weight pockets work together, or because they are in similar locations they will be on top of one another?BORIS P : As long as your harness is a proper size (not overly tall for your chest) it should be fine, as the pockets on the shorts will be considerably lower than the integrated weights.MORGAN A : Can't help as they didn't fit my "mature male figure" (42" waist). They were just what I wanted to dive with my Hollis Side Mount SMS100D BCD witDive Riteh back mount weights plate and back inflation. I gifted them to my very appreciative Navy LCDR son who'll dive them thissummer at Galapagos. I went to clip on Dive Rite thigh pouches.MIYUKI S : It should work fine together. The pockets on the shorts will be lower than the weight pockets.LAUREN D : The pockets on the pants sit way lower than my bc. I have used them with both my jacket style bc and my halcyon and have not had any problems accessing items in the pockets. The pockets are more on the sides of your thighs not up on your hips.
Shopper : I have a 42 - 44" waist and all my wet suits are 3XL will the X-large size fit me without self destructing?DAVID H : I can't say exactly because I don't wear your size, but they are fairly stretchy and very sturdy. I gained a lot of weight since I bought mine, and they are fine; I also wear them over my wetsuit. I can only guess, but I would think so.JON S : I have a 38" waist and have the large version. they fit ok over a 3xl semi dry 8/7mm suit. So you should be ok with the XLDARRYL R : These shorts tend to run larger than you would think for the size listed. I would THINK that XL should fitt youMORGAN A : Unfortunately, they will not. I, too, share your "mature male" stature and purchased a pair for myself with the hope I might be able to either squeeve into them or have them provide sufficient incentive to "return to my fighting weight of yesteryear". I ended up passing them to my 36 year old son whose waist aligns with these XL shorts. He loves them and finds their portable versatility across his closet full of wetsuits of varying thickness/thermal protection a more than satisfying alternative to glue-on bellows pockets for each wetsuit as I have had to do. Alas, when I tried to convince Highland to manufacture "mature male sizes", they did not appreciate the breadth (pun intended!) of the potential marketplace. I wonder when they last dived? There are plenty of us "Big Boys" out there and most of us are seasoned instructors!!! Morgan A.JASON J : Should fit just fine. I have about the same size waist, fluctuates between 42 & 45 :) and I own the XL pair of these. The tag says 37"-41" but they are very comfortable. I used these for a month straight diving 3-4 times a day on a recent trip to Roatan, Honduras and they held up very well.ARRICK C : I'm the same size and they fit good except for the waste is cut low for me, I'm 6'5. Otherwise, I love them.RYAN B : They seem true to sizeABHISHEK A : FWIW, I have a 30-31" waist and the Medium fits me quite well. Hope it's helpful information.

Versatile Dive pro shorts

I wear the pocket shorts over a 3mill or 5mill wet suits. Deep expandable Velcro tabs hold dive spool reels, lights& folding knife. D rings let you clip on equipment lanyards. Can hold 1 Lb weights lower for diver profile. Travels well, packs lighter than a wetsuit.

Highland 2mm Super Stretch Neoprene Pocket Shorts Review - Scuba Gear Reviews

though i haven?Äôt used the highland 2mm super stretch neoprene pocket shorts yet?Ķ lakes ice covered?Ķ initial look reveals what many other have stated?Ķ sizing seems to be one size large. by the ?Äúfitting?Äù chart i?Äôm on the low side of xl. ordered an l and it actually fits a little loose over my 7mm. at this point i must add the standard disclaimer?Äúyour mileage may vary!?Äù these shorts appear well made. quad stitched on vertical seams?Ķ double stitched on horizontal seams. lots of d-rings on the pockets. perhaps too much velcro on the pocket flaps?Ķ certainly better too much than not enough. also additional velcro to hold pockets flat when not in use. nice touch. see manufacturer?Äôs graphic. personally still suspect of the ?Äúdrawstring?Äù as to ?Äúholding up?Äù power. to be seen. at this point (without use), really would like to have six to seven loops which would accept a ?Äústandard weight belt?Äù size belt for ?Äúholding up?Äù power. finally, based on initial fitting?Ķ really think two sizes smaller than ?Äúfit chart?Äù indicates may be necessary to use stand alone (no wet/dry suit). again, ?Äúyour mileage may vary?Äù depending on all the various body shape variables. overall, i believe a good purchase and thus, 5 stars... should something occur to change that, ill .

Really like these shorts. Buy a size smaller size

They work well and and comfortable. They have a lot of extra material in the crotch. I bought a size smaller than I usually wear and they fit fine

Not exactly what I was looking for

I am still* looking for a pair of form fitting (think tri shorts) with built in pockets. When I saw these online I thought I had found the perfect item. Unfortunately, they are relatively thick (even for 2mm), and fairly loose fitting. They fit more like bloomers than tri shorts. These would probably be great over a wetsuit in cold water, but in the tropical waters I dive, they are just way too bulky and loose.

Terrible

These were a gift, to provide more options to stow gear. Unfortunately they did not function well. The waist cord does not thread through grommets, so pulling directly against the unreinforced neoprene will start to rip in short order. These slide on easily, but will also slide off just as easily, especially when wet. I tightened the waist cord to the point of cutting off circulation and it still slid around. Yes, I had the correct size. In fact, when I got out of the water the cord was so tight seawater was pooling around my belly since it couldn't flow down my legs. These shorts constantly moved around during the dive, and I was continually trying to hitch them up. The pockets are great, deep and collapsible with strong velcro. I bought the same pockets from XS as a glue-on option for my wetsuit, and couldn't be happier. The shorts were an expensive mistake.

Add pockets to your diving gear

X-shorts have been a great way for me to add pockets to my wetsuit to stow my gear (backup mask, spool+SMB, shears). Gusseted Velcro pockets sit flat when empty. I've seen some people use them over their drysuits also. The only mis-information IMHO is the sizing. The waist is elastic, which means it can stretch a good amount (e.g., the medium size is 28" unstretched, 36" stretched). I looked at the recommended size and then purchased one size smaller.

Lot's of velcro on the flaps

I have a 31" waist. I got the size large. It's barely big enough around the waist when wearing a drysuit!!! Maybe the medium would work for me in a wetsuit, but I'm very glad I went with the large size. Opening the pockets when they are fully closed against the velcro...really difficult! Wow...a lot of velcro in new condition...hard to open that flap. So...look at what another reviewer wrote below. Get some extra velcro tape and simply attach to the velcro on one side or both (flap or pocket of short) to cover some of the active velcro until opening the flap is reasonable (not too hard or easy). As the working velcro wears and the pocket opens too easily, simply remove some of the velcro tape and there you go...fresh velcro available and the flap holds your gear safely without being difficult to open. The other issue I have with the shorts results from attempting to wear them with a drysuit. The shorts need more space between the waist and the crotch. Might not be necessary for a wetsuit, but in my drysuit...I really have to hike everything up...almost give myself a wedgie...trying to get the waist of the shorts high enough to go around my hip bones, so it will stay up.

Just what I was looking for

These shorts are great in warm water. I ordered a large and almost sent them back for a medium but kept them anyway and like the loose fit.

Solid product

The shorts run a little large and I ended up in a Med instead of a Lg. The cut is nicer than the old X-Shorts from Dive Xtras and they're less bulky.

pocket shorts do the job

Great addition to warm water wetsuits for carrying spool & surface signaling device, as well as other necessities when wetsuit and BC lack accessible pockets. Pockets are large and accordion designed so produce little drag when not stuffed with gear. However, I'd sooner trade a little strength achieved with the stiff nylon material for the flexibility of neoprene pockets.

Best Item I've bought!

Love this thing - I always have the same things in the same pockets, the pockets are HUGE but the velcro sides keep them from just floating out there. The velcro is strong, so I put some velcro strips on the pockets to reduce the attachment areas. This is good, though, because in a few years, if the velcro breaks down, I can remove the strips for "fresh" velcro.

Warm-water answer for Tech Divers!

This is an excellent product for tech divers who want to dive in warm water (without their drysuit). It provides two standard-sized side pockets positioned just like the drysuit, therefore no fiddling around looking for gear. They are the perfect answer to Tech Divers or Backplate lovers who like to sometimes get out of the caves and enjoy the tropics!

Excelent addition to diving kit

These shorts are great. Placing DSMB, Reals and other accessories in these pockets allows for easier access than BC pockets. Easy to access and easy to stow.
