Water, water everywhere, and plenty of places to take a dip. Florida offers two coastlines and plenty of inland lakes and springs for snorkelers to explore, and many are within just a couple of hours drive from Florida’s main tourist attraction, Disney World. With spring-fed waters hovering near 72 degrees year round, this is a hot spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, and canoeing. Located on the eastern side of the Ocala National Forest, this spot also offers overnight camping as well as picnic areas for a fun daylong outing or a cool weekend adventure.

We can sum up why Crystal River is one of the best places to snorkel near Orlando in one word: manatees! Licensed tour guides take visitors on snorkeling tours where they can experience close encounters with these gentle and charming creatures. While it’s against Florida law to chase after manatees, if they approach you first, it’s okay to let them take an interest in you.

Rainbow Springs, Dunnellon

Florida’s fourth largest spring, the crystal clear waters of Rainbow Springs have been drawing crowds for generations. Archaeological evidence demonstrates that this area has been used for swimming and living for over 10,000 years. Arrive early during the summer, as the park can fill up quickly. This site also offers canoeing and kayaking, along with campsites.

Point of Rocks, Siesta Key

With depths of only about five feet, this is a great place for beginning snorkelers. Siesta Key is also considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the US, with fine sugar sand and many species of shore birds. The rocky area extends out from the beach for almost 300 feet and is home to a variety of marine creatures.

Blue Heron Bridge, Riviera Beach

While this spot is a bit further away, it is the place to be for snorkeling near Orlando. Located in Phil Foster State Park, underneath the causeway bridge leading to Singer Island, Blue Heron always has plenty of marine life. Schools of brightly colored fish, underwater sculptures, octopus, and rays are just a few of the sights. There is also a beach area with picnic tables. Guided tours are available, and if you time your visit right, you can enjoy a nighttime paddleboard experience complete with neon-lit boards!
