A good compass that actually seems less versatile than the SK7 (which someone stole from me). If you have a SK7, definitely NO need to upgrade to SK8.

High quality compass and retractor. Compass dial easy to read and compass card rotates freely even when angled. The compass connects very securely to the retractor.

Been using this for several years now. Very accurate and durable. Well worth the money. The retractor still works as good as it did when I bought it. The bezel still holds it position; I haven't had any issues with it "accidentally" moving to another position.

Sunto could have done a lot better job with this compass. The north arrow is a simple triangle. It is hard to line up with the orienting indicators on the bezel. I ordered the retractable dive compass that appeared to have a better defined north arrow. I received a wrist compass and a separate split ring retractor. The compass I received did not match the photograph of the compass I ordered. Also why not a quick connector to attach the compass to my BC? Why a split ring? Because it is cheaper for Sunto to make it that way. No more mail order junk for me. I didn't bother to return it. I chalked it up to a lesson learned. Use this compass to navigate under water and you are likely to wind up in another country.

The SK-8 is a great compass. The retractable version allows me to set it, use it and when I finish, just let it go and it's right where I attached it to my BC. I highly recommend this compass. Easy to set, and easy to read

I love this compass. I recommend it to all my students. I have been using this one for 5 years and dive at least twice a week. Works better if you actual clip it on your BC. My first one i didn’t have clipped on and lost it on my first dive. Whaaa

Great compass. Used it first time at Athens Scuba Park with less than 10 ft of visibility. Hit my target every time. Stable and easy to read. I would highly recommend this.

The Suunto SK8 Retractable Compass is the best underwater compass on the market. I have purchased two for myself (the first was stolen) and two for gifts.

The best Underwater Compass I have used. Refractor allows for good positioning. Compass allows for accurate readings even with a fair amount of tilt (when the compass is not held level). I never dive without mine.

Most expensive is not necessarily best! I like the fact that this compass is on a retractor. Unfortunately the compass needle (which is a round disc) often is stuck in its housing and wont move! To me this indicates poor craftsmanship. Also, when near large metal objects underwater (like oil rig platforms or sunken ships), it does not give correct bearings.

Much easier than wrestling with a console mounted compass. Nice large face easy to read in all conditions. Gun sight window for precise nav. Quickly check a heading then let go - compass retracts to bcd attachment point and sits securely until you need it again. Quick disconnect for safe storage post dive. No cons- love it!

Unfortunately the compass arrived defective. The inner dial would not spin as the needle was bent causing the dial to tilt beyond intended function. Obviously defective from the factory as there is no way to bend the needle. Luckily LP stands behind the sale and is first rate when it comes to support and returns. That is why I keep buying from them. In this case it was a return... I ended up with a XS super tilt retractable as I have no faith in Suunto.

Great addition to my gear. I tend to use this compass over my digital one as it just seems more accurate and easy to use. I like that it can be unclipped and given to others to use as well.

I have used several Compass' This one by far is the best I've used. You do not have to stay level, it glows in the deep water, easy to see and use. I have loaned it to other people for navigation and they all agree with me. If I loose It I will replace it with the same model.

The retractable cord makes all the difference. Easy to hold in front of you when you need it - out of the way when you dont! Just clip it on your BCD And you are set.

I changed out my console for just a SPG so I needed another compass. I tried a wrist mounted compass but found holding my compass arm across my body to be too awkward and tiring. This compass allows you to hold it out while viewing the side window which is how I usually navigate. Being retractable it stays out of your way when it is not needed. The large numbers in the side window is a must-have in low viz and older age reading issues.

Great standalone compass. Console compass was difficult to read so I got this compass. Attaches easily to a BC for quick access and retractor is very smooth. Most important is that it is easy to read even in limited visibility water that we have in the lakes and ocean in northern New England.

The only negative really isn't so negative, but this compass will disappear if left on a BCD. I found that out through first hand experience while in Curacao. Don't leave it laying around unsecured it will walk off !!! This was what I used during my Advanced and Navigational certifications and it really is simple to use.

The retractor spring failed and there is no way to open it up to repair. Unable to replace retractor portion of compass without buying a whole new product. Expected more from Suunto.
