Questions & Answers

QUINNE P : I just used my new Zena and I loved it, however, I had a (probably) minor issue with the bungee/shock chords that weave across the front of both bladders. The very first dive I noticed that the bottom attachment of the bungee on one side had popped out. I just tucked it behind the tank since it did not affect my dive. I assumed maybe I over-inflated the BCD and that is why so I made sure to not fully inflate on the next dive(s). However, the second dive the top attachment for that side then popped out. Followed by the other 2 attachments on the other side for dives 3 and 4. After this, I was still able to dive without them and the bladders being wider/not really hugging the tank and I honestly had no issues/complaints that way. I'm just not sure why they all popped out like that, especially after I was careful not to inflate fully (which I am not sure should matter in the first place). I can't seem to find anyone else experiencing this issue & if only one side had the problem occur I probably would assume it was a faulty chord/one-off, but since it happened to both sides and so successively with my first dives in the BCD I'm unsure of the problem. Anyone know what I should do/had this happen? Thank you!JOE S : Try one more thing before calling Huish Service. The tabs you mentioned sometimes are not pushed in enough. They have small grippers that lock into the bungee. Try pushing them in a bit with your fingers from the outside, before you push the bungee in. Put enough pressure on them that it bends them inward a bit, but not too much that they break. Once they grab ahold of the bungees, it's pretty secure. Seems like these may not have been pushed in enough. If this does not seem secure, then give Huish Service a call at (888) 270-8595. They will be able to help at that point. You can send them this transcript if you like. tac@huishoutdoors.com. My name is Joe Stellini and the NE Sales Rep, in case they ask.JOE S : The bungees for the bladder are attached by clips which attach to the Wing. The bungee should push in and hold. They are probably still attached to the wing. If so, push them all the way in and the tabs on the inside should Lock them in place. They may have come out because the clips were broken. That is unlikely that all four were broken. They may have not been pushed in all the way. Try that and if not, we can contact the service department for instructions. I can't answer 100%, but they may just send you new clips if they are missing or broken.
Tonya L : I have a Medium Zena BC but I haven't been diving on some time. I've put on weight since then and want to dive again but obviously the BC doesn't fit anymore. Do I need to buy a completely new one or will a larger vest piece give me the extra room?Tracy S : I had the same problem. Got the larger panels and it worked for me. I found the larger front panels fit my torso length better than the smaller ones did before I gained weight. When I was lighter, the bcd as sold fit me well. Now with larger panels it fits me amazingly well. Probably depends on how much weight you picked up, where it settled and how your bcd fit you when you bought it.JOE S : You can purchase the large vest panel separately and try that. Make sure you decide on the fit before you take it in the water so it can be returned if it isn't fitting well. ARTHUR W : Experience: Dive Instructor / Sold Zeagle products in the past. If the medium Zena fit you well in the past I would give the large vest a try. Make sure you try it on with the BCD shortly after receiving it and before you dive in it. If it doesn't work you should be able to return it to Leisure Pro. The Zena is like other Zeagle BCD's in that you can switch out the shoulder straps and vest/cummerbund. If the medium fit you in the past, the torso length should be correct and this will remain constant. The large vest should give you a few more inches in the waist and chest and hopefully that does the trick. Glad you are out diving again:-) On a side note: The Zena is a fantastic BCD if you can get it to fit correctly. Petite women with smaller chests and tall thin women may have some problems getting a good fit.ARTHUR W : Experience: Dive Instructor and have sold Zeagle products in the past. You may just need a new chest piece. If you go this route just try it on as soon as you receive it and before you plan to dive; if it doesn’t give you enough extra room you should be able to return it. The Zena BCD is like other Zeagle BCD’s. The chest piece/cummerbund and the shoulder straps can be replaced with a different size. Just a side note: the Zeagle is tough fit for petite women with smaller chest sizes, and taller lean women, which is too bad as it is a great BCD if you can dial in the fit. However, if the Zena fit you before then at least you have the correct torso length, that measurement should remain the same. The large chest piece should give you a few more inches in the waist and chest which may do the trick. Good luck with it. I’m glad your out diving again:-).Stephanie K : You can buy a larger vestJOANNE M : I would suggest you talk to the Leisure Pro online folks, or even (gasp) consult with a brick and mortar store. I don't know how much more room you need, or how much a new vest piece would provide.NHAN P : Yes, you can try. Leisurepro always has best policy to return or exchange. The best way is come to the diving shop and try on.
Robert L : My wife is 5’6” but the XS size is under 5’. She tried on a friends small at it was slightly to big. Will the XS be too short?SUSAN H : I ordered according to the size chart, large, and it was too big. For me a medium. Large was just a bit too big. So in my opinion the size chart is not accurate.JIM P : I got a small for my wife and she is 5'4" but you can buy different size front panels. I would suggest buying the small bcd and a second front panel in XSmallJOE S : The XS should work, but It is hard to say without knowing the exact attributes and comparing them to the size chart.
Robert L : Does this have a rigid backplate?ARTHUR W : NoJOE S : This does not have a rigid backplate. It is a stiffened nylon material with two cam bands to secure the tank which gives it the stability you would want from any BC.JOANNE M : No. The fabric of the BC itself and the bladder form the bavk.Ivan B : I’m sorry but I don’t remember... it was a gift to a friend but it seems to me...noAlicia F : No it does notDawn H : It is not uncomfortable.....if that is your concern. I have truly enjoyed my Zeagle BC!!patti h : Yes it does
LUCILE B : I usually like to remove my integrated weights prior to coming up the boat ladder to save my back. How could I do that with this BC? Is there a way to do that easily and safely without risking losing them?ALEXEI S : You can get one of Zeagle weight pouches ZGLWP or ZGLWP10. It will greatly simplify weight handling. In my mind every zeable BC needs them. I dive man's zeagle, and I can remove weights in the pouches without loosing them, it is easy and safe enough, but it is not as convenient as traditional integrated weights.MICHELLE E : Yes you can easily with weight pouches zipped into the front pockets. This is the best and convenient BC that I’ve ever used.Charlotte T : There are zippered pockets, so certainly you could. However, they may be slightly less accessible given this design than some of the other integrated weight vests. In smooth water, less of a problem I would imagine.ROBERT G : This is a great BC, my wife loves it. The emergency weight release on this bc is actually a cord that is threaded through some holes on along the bottom of the bc. The weights are loose inside the compartment, so this would not be a good way to get rid of the weights. The pockets that the weights go into are zippered. Its not the best solution for what ypu want to do.CHRISTINA R : You can open the main side pockets pretty easily to take them out. I bought the little mesh bags that you can put the weights in. The rip cord is only for emergencies, as it takes a while to restring it.NICOLE B : No. You will have to unzip the pockets and hand out each weight individually. The lead/pellet weights are placed directly into the side pockets; there is no separate weight pouch than snaps on/off.

Love my ZEAGLE Zena??

LOVE ?? MY ZEAGLE ZENA! I had another bcd and traveling with the Zena compared the old one is a dream come true! I never am overweight with my scuba bag; I in fact am able to put other things in there now. It is comfortable on my hips and I am a bit of a hipster ??..it is easy to care for, pack up and travel with. Oh and it is very comfortable underwater. Also helps with my buoyancy. My favorite place to dive is all over the Caribbean ??

Love it!!!!

Absolutely love the fit of this BC! It is uniquely shaped to fit a female torso. It doesn't have the slop that a unisex BC has, twisting around your body. I also feel that it helps my bad back- I get backaches from diving, and I feel this BC lessens them. The only downside is I find it doesn't dump air very quickly with a tug on the inflator hose. I had to go back to holding the inflator hose above my head- no big deal, just something different.

Excellent BC

Great product from Zeagle, as are all their products. Purchased for girlfriend as Christmas gift and no trips planned until summer, so in water review has not happened. I have had a Ranger for over 12 years and this is same quality, and I expect the same performance for her. Friends who dive the Zena love it for the female form. LeisurePro always timely and efficient, ordering and delivery.

Awkward in every sense.

I hated this BCD. I was a bit skeptical of it to start but I had seen so many great reviews I felt like i needed to try it out. I liked that you could get each part fixed separately. Also, my dive shop in Austin really pushed me to keep this BCD (I bought it on leisurepro). They told me that 'every girl who buys this one says it'll be the last BCD they every buy'. Well....... I returned it after my first dive trip with it. I hated basically everything about it Once in a wetsuit and connected to a tank, the zipper was so difficult to start.. I had to ask for help multiple times because of how you have to start zipping it (Once started it was easy to zip and yes, I had it sized properly before diving). We opened the side a bit even to test the sizing but once we did that and zipped it up, the BCD was too loose and we had to adjust it back. It was super awkward having someone have to zip me almost every time. I also really didn't understand the one long pocket with velcro on the right side. Like.... it seems like a design flaw. It was so deep that anything you put it is dangling down liable to hit stuff. Also the netting made it awkard to try to get anything out of the pocket. I just don't know what it would be used for. After opening it, it wass also quite difficult to scrunch back in. I would have preferred more D rings to hook gear onto me that a subpar pocket that served me no real use. I had never used a zipcord weight pocket system so before I did my first dive with the BCD, I tested the cord to make sure it would work. Big mistake on my part because, well since I hadn't used this kind of system before, I didn't know how to set it back up properly. I spent about 2 hours trying to put the cords back into place, testing it and retesting it. I watched video tutorials and reslly didn't know what I was doing wrong. After employing the help of 2 divemasters who also couldn't get the cords back into place to work properly, we chalked it up as an L and I didn't use the quick release system for this dive trip. I ended up returning the BCD and got the Biolite BCD which I anticipated I'd like more in the first place.

Zeagle Zena BC

Easy on and off. Works great for me because I?m curvy and the unisex BC?s were always shifting and uncomfortable. Be prepared to tighten your straps once diving and you?ll get a perfect fit and have a hassle free dive!

Zeagle BCD?s. Top Notch

Cannot say enough about how good the Zeagle products are. From their BCD?s to their regulators. I have three of their BCD?s fins & the Zeagle 8 regulator. Awesome products.

Great for curvy girls!

Great for tall or curvy females. I purchased this BCD for my wife. Basically this BCD is designed like a corset. Its central zipper and buckle system allow for a great deal of flexibility with differing body types. Note there is not a strap across the breasts on this model this is a good thing as many large chested woman say this is annoying. The trim pockets can be loaded from the top of the bottom allowing for easy addition of trim weights. The bladder is all in the back (similar to a back plate and wing) so that you don't have air bladder compressing the tummy or breasts. Why I gave it four stars. While the rip cord system does work it isn't something I would ask a beginner to use. It is better to practice weight pouch removal from a rental BCD then graduate up to something like this. (My wife has been diving longer than I have so this was not and issue for her) This unit shipped from the manufacturer but beat the other items ordered to my house.

2 thumbs up

This BCD is great. My wife loves it. She prefers this over the aqua lung products that she rented for her open water course.

Is pink the new purple?

Although I have yet to try it as it was a Christmas present, I am unimpressed with the lack of color choices and how upon inspection of the actual BC, the purple floral design was not purple, but hot pink....unlike the color online which was distinctly purple. I wanted to match the rest of my gear so the other divers in my home and on the boats can figure out whose is whose!

Very Comfortable BC

I bought this BC in a size medium after doing a ton of research and it lives up to its reviews. I have only used it during a refresher course recently, its true test will be on a trip to Indonesia this October. Getting in and out of the vest is really quick and easy, which makes it easy for your buddy. I found that once I had on a tank and adjusted the straps the weight was distributed nicely and I did not feel that I was being pulled back. The zip up front is really convenient for getting in and out of the BC. After some readjusting once in the water the Zena was a dream, it didn't roll or bunch up and I could swim comfortably. My recommendations: 1) Buy the weight pouches. The weight pockets are secured by a ripcord, but there are gaps and free weights might slip out during dives. The pouches give it extra security. 2) Make sure you have extra clips for hoses and accessories. I found that the D-rings on this BC are limited and I needed extra clips to secure my octo and computer. Other than that I think this is a great BCD and I am really looking forward to diving with it in Indonesia.

For 10 year old daughter

Attempting to fit my 10 year old petite 66lb daughter was a challenge until I tried this BCD. Still a little big with straps as tight as I could make them but I know this bcd will last well into her teens and potentially adulthood. The little kids ranger may have worked better; however, I wanted something lighter and with more trim. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the zipper is hard for her. She actually has figured out how to get in and out with the side buckles and keeping it permanently zipped.

Probably not for a new diver, especially in currents

I LOVE the fit of this BC, but found the following problems on a dive trip to the Philippines: I had trouble getting air out of the bladders and kept going to the top; I thought the zip front would be good, but we had to take off the BCs in the water and the zip was not as easy to use as the traditional quick-release buckles; also no strap across the sternum. I ended up having to borrow a different BC from the dive shop. I'm going to try to learn how to use this one, but I caution anyone not to buy it before a big dive trip, unless you have LOTS of time to practice using it.

Game Changer!

I love the customizable fit, color choices, light weight, simplicity, streamlined design, double tank straps. I bought the Zeagle accessory sport pocket and I'm glad I did. Streamlined and great pocket to stow safety sausage, whistle, small flashlight, noisemaker. Easy to access. I found the small expandable mesh pocket that came with it utterly useless unless expanded -- thus dangling and spoiling my streamlining. I removed it entirely. Overall, this is an amazing BCD and I am in love with it.

Im a beginner diver and this vest was recommended from the dive shop. It is hard to reach the valve releases on the back and it only has the hose in the front for release. The bladder is only in the back and it traps air. You must roll face down and pull opposite side of valve which is difficult to grab at that angle. When in current its extremely hard to empty and you shoot to the top if you can't get it out properly. Even after 16 dives and knowing what you had to do it was just frustrating. I loved the fit but will have to think about selling it unfortunately.

Great fit 2nd time around

When first purchased I bought a large. It was a great fit although once tightened the loose ends were quite long and I found that when I tightened the shoulder straps as far as they could go there was no way to help the hang of my tank, which was a bit too low. I ended up exchanging the large for a medium and it made all the difference!! This BCD fits famously!! I am fairly large busted and when wearing a basic BCD the vests moved around quite a bit because the difference in fit from my bust to waist. With this BCD you can tighten/adjust to fit every curve of your torso. Plus it looks kinda sexy for a BCD. Be sure to buy the weight pouches!! They do not come with the BCD and you will need them. I purchased the back pad as well but not sure i would need it.

Best BC I've ever used - EVER!

as an U/W photographer, perfect 'trim' on my buoyancy is essential. I am about to go muck-diving and you DON'T want to be the diver who stirs up the muck. I have never had such perfect control over my buoyancy as with this BCD - in over 30 years of diving, renting gear, having owned my own 'traditional vest' BCD's - never. Also, the integrated weights ROCK. Monica at Leisurepro is the best. ************************

Great BC

my wife just got this BC and fits very well, it seems to be sized a little large, she normally would wear a S, but went with an XS. LPro was great about the return. It could use a little better cargo pocket, but other than that, nice set up.

Very comfortable for a petite woman

Once I learned to properly weight myself (3 lbs each back pocket in salt water with a small tank) this was a perfect BCD for me. It fit like a good hiking pack would fit and was very easy to adjust. The customer service at Zeagle was very helpful in advising me on the weight adjustments.

Good fit but may not be super durable

Not so sure about this product's durability as there are threads popping out on it after only 20 dives, but it fits super well and I really like the feel.

Excellent fit

I was using rentals and friends before I purchased this one. I had no idea how comfortable BCDs could be. I have a large chest area so all the others I used would squish so tight in order to fit around the waist. This one has two adjustments to tighten right under the chest (at my high waist line) and a second at the belly button zone. It also has the comfortable front portion that covers just enough of my top half to not make me feel like the "girls" are on display. I can dive in comfort. Excellent BCD!

Great BCD.....happy with purchase

This is the first BCD I have ever owned despite having over 220+ dives. I had never wanted to deal with the bulk, weight and luggage issues. I had done extensive research including the newer wing plate BCD but felt this fit my needs the best. This BCD is not only light, but very comfortable to wear. I really like the zip jacket feature as it makes getting in/out a BCD really easy and quick. Some people mentioned the back-inflate makes you lean forward on the water surface but I didn't think it was bad and didn't notice too much. The weight-pockets in the back can help to compensate if you are concerned. Lastly, I purchased the Zeagle lumbar pad as some had suggested but unfortuantely bought the wrong one (regular Zeagle ranger), not for Zena so it is a little bulky:-( As for size, I got a Small and am 5'4" and 126lbs. It was the right size and fits even with the lumbar pad.

PERFECT BC for Women

I am 5 feet 2 inches and weigh about 120 pounds. Given this size, the small size fit the best. Remember, as you descend, your body compresses and you may need to tighten the BC around you. I also wear a full 3mm wetsuit when I dive in 79 degree F waters. The fit tapered to my waist well and I didn't feel like I was swimming in the BC even at 80 feet deep. (NOTE: I had the BC on its smallest position. This will be helpful because if you are smaller than I, this BC may be too big, if you are slightly taller or bigger than I, then it should still fit fine.) There were enough pockets and places on the BC to attached various items. The bigger the BC, the more pockets you may have. I really liked the zipper front because it was easy to secure the BC. The quick release gave me comfort in knowing that I could get out of the BC quickly should I need to and "step out" of the unit. I found the quality to be outstanding. It is very easy to clean with a piece that easily attaches to a hose for an internal clean water rinse. I just purchased this BC and have used it on 12 dives. I am looking forward to doing more dives this year.

I also wear a full 3mm wetsuit when I dive in 79 degree F waters. The fit tapered to my waist well and I didn't feel like I was swimming in the BC even at 80 feet deep. (NOTE: I had the BC on its smallest position. This will be helpful because if you are smaller than I, this BC may be too big, if you are sl...

Zeagle Zena Women's BC:
The greatest difficulty in properly sizing a woman's Buoyancy System is not finding a smaller size, or allowing for the bust, but lies in the fact that women's bodies have a defined waist where a waistband must fasten in order to secure the BC. At the same time, women tend to have both a shorter torso length and a lower center of buoyancy compared to men. Conventional buoyancy systems, which would ideally be worn lower for best balance and comfort, must be worn higher, around the narrowest part of the waist, in order to be secure. The Zena's twin waist and hip band system provides a way for women to securely position the weights and buoyancy below waist level, around the body's center of buoyancy. All of Zeagle's buoyancy systems are available with women's sizing options and can be adjusted to provide excellent fit and functionality for women divers.

The Zena BC has been designed by women as a buoyancy system specifically for women. The twin straps adjust to fit waist and hips independently, while the elastic front zippered panels provide outstanding fit and comfort. Zeagle's patented PFS sizing system allows for the waist size, chest size, and torso length to be independently fitted, positioning the weights low, around the body's center of buoyancy. The torso adjustable shoulder straps and side straps come equipped with squeeze-style side-release buckles for easy donning/doffing. The Zena BCD has a 31 lbs (13.6kg) lift capacity bladder, and a 24 lbs (10.9kg) capacity Ripcord Weight System with a 16 lbs (7.26kg) rear trim pocket non-releasable capacity. Attachment of accessories is made easy with the four stainless steel D-rings on the vest and storage of gloves, small light or other accessories can be accomplished with the expandable mesh quick-pocket at waist. Built to last from the Zena will give years of reliable service. To provide easy trimming of buoyancy the Zena has a lower left and right rear overpressure relief/pull dump valves.

With this durable design you also get Zeagle's time proven, rugged Bx Power Inflator System. No more struggling trying to get fresh water in through the inflator mouth piece! The Bx Power Inflator comes standard on all Zeagle BC's. Now you can really rinse out the bladder of your BC. Simply unscrew the Bx Coupler, screw on a standard garden hose, turn the water on and super rinse and clean the inner bladder. Inflator includes a 3/8" threaded low pressure quick disconnect hose for attachment to the first stage regulator. To provide easy trimming of buoyancy the Zena has a lower left and right rear overpressure relief/pull dump valves. BCD weighs 6.2 lbs (2.8kg), and is made in the USA.
