JOSEPH E : In years past, this item used an inflator hose with the same size coupling as the original bcd inflator, but more recent models require the larger, bulkier coupling... why the change? and can it be purchased with the smaller male attachment, like it used to be?JOE S : This requires a larger inflator because it is a breathable gas. It has always had the larger connection as long as I can remember. you should not Downgrade this because it may not deliver enough gas to breath in an emergency.

Well designed

Finally a well designed octo that eliminates the standard Air 2 style Octo issues from water Ingres causing air leaks within the regulator part. The detachment of the whole unit from the BCD hose is a great design aiding in flushing and draining the bladder

Great Alternate!

While I've only done about 4-5 dives on it, there's been a lot of emphasis on practicing out of air since my wife and I both bought Octo-Zs to go with our new BCDs. Overall, it's a great piece of kit. My only issue (for me anyway) was the slightly learning curve of not pressing the purge valve instead of deflate button.

Great idea, until it stops working

Similar to a couple other reviews, I was very impressed with this as a space-saving measure from having an Octo. Really great idea, until you realize that it's a single point of failure if it starts to leak. I did a pretty silty dive in the Gulf of Mexico (and found a Meg tooth!) and after that, it wouldn't stop leaking pretty strongly. Problem was, since it's also the inflator from my BC, can't really even think of diving without it. Took it in for service, they cleaned and replaced the seals and everything appears to be working again, but, I'm probably going to sell it and move to a separate inflator and Octo, or look at the highly rated scubapro.

Zeagle Octo-Z Breathable Inflator

Zeagles answer to Air-II is a winner. The quick-disconnect feature will be welcomed especially by traveling divers, who want to protect the unit in shipmant, rather than leaving it attached to the BC.

Near concept, but be careful

When this works, it's a great two-in-one inflator for the price. That being said, I have had issues with the air valve within the regulator closing all the way at times. I got back from a dive trip, cleaned up my equipment, and let it dry out. Two weeks later, it started to leak really bad when I showed up to a training dive. I had to lightly hit the back of the inflator to FINALLY get the valve to close and seal correctly.

Excellent choice for Air II

Love this Air II. It was very easy to install works great and has really helped streamline my BC. The hose adapter for cleaning the BC is very convenient and easy to use. My only complaint is that the "extra long hose" isn't really that long. I might go with a slightly longer one.

Not what they used to be

I have owned many eagle products over the years. They should stick to BCD's and stop making other gear that they are not properly equipped to produced. Eagle sold it's operation to a scuba conglomerate and the quality of their products have substantially declined. The Octo-Z breathed wet right out of the box and only got worse and ultimately failed while I was on a scuba trip. Thankfully, I was able to purchase an an Atomic to replace it immediately. The Atomic is perfect out of the box. Zeagle is not good at making regs. Their regs are ticking time bombs. You've been warned.

The Octo-Z II Inflator replaces the conventional BC power inflator and second stage octopus by combining the functions of both into a single unit. The Octo-Z II is a dependable downstream demand valve design breathable inflator. The Octo-Z II has a balanced inflator valve design and is manufactured from brass, flexible and ridged thermoplastics, elastomeric polymers and silicone rubber. The breathable inflator weighs 8 oz. (213 g) without the hose, providing a lightweight and compact alternative to having both a standard inflator mechanism and a separate octopus regulator.

The high-flow inflator hose is 27" (69cm) in length with 3/8" threads. The Octo-Z II is also equipped with a threaded coupling that allows you to attach the end of the BC corrugated hose to a garden hose for easy and effective rinsing of the BCD's air bladder. This feature also allows you to disconnect the Octo-Z II for storage with your primary regulator. The combining of the alternate air source and inflator mechanism also eliminates a hose and streamlines your profile when diving. The Octo-Z II comes with a comprehensive owner's manual.
