I put this on the factory crossbars so rotation is not a problem. I imagine that if it was on round bars it would tend to roll. Simpler to install and remove than other systems I've used. The wind whistle can get loud at times. When folded the noise is that much closer.

These are great if you don't plan on taking the mounts off your car. If you do, go with the metal ones. I believe they are not as wide as the older model. Also, they tend to fall from side to side rather than stay stationary when moving a kayak around on them - what I assume to be because of the round bar and just basic physics. This may happen no matter what product but I found that to be a downfall with the product. Not sure about longevity of the product's life because it's all plastic. If I had to do it again, I would probably go with the older, metal frame model, but it really is all in how you plan to use them!

I puchased yakima bowdowns to carry my kayak. They were easy to install. I can now loaded and unload my kayak alone.

Keep your mind on the water and not on the safety of your boat. Top-of-the-line Hull-Guard padding keeps your boat comfy, and when not in use, folds down for better aerodynamics and roof clearance. Universal mounts fit most crossbars out of box. The convenience of a stacker without having to remove it in the off season, Yakima's Bow-Down carries one boat on padded "J" cradles and then folds down to provide a clean silhouette. Getting your gear onto your rack isn't complete until you've secured it. The Bow-Down Kayak Racks com with a pair of super strong box-stitched 16' (4.88 meters) straps include soft, rubber-coated buckles to protect your boats and gear from scratches.
Also included with the racks and designed to make carrying your boat highway safe, are bow/stern tie downs. Forget about tying knots, these tie downs feature handy ratchet pulleys that are easy to use and are corrosion resistant. They're also great for securing non-nautical loads like ladders or lumber. The Bow-Down Racks measure 5.5" (13.97cm) wide front to back, 20" (50.8cm) at its widest, 21" (53.34cm) tall from top of crossbar about 5" (12.7cm) when folded and has a bottom pad that is 10" x 3.5" (25.4cm). The Bow-Down Kayak Racks weigh 12lbs (5.44kg), comes with an instruction guide, has a built-in bottle opener and are covered by a limited lifetime warranty.
