Questions & Answers

Richard G : does it come in xl?Mario C : it used to. now its a closeout item i just have on sizes shown.
Mike P : does the American Waterproof W3 come in 5mm or 7mm?JOSEPH B : No, the Waterproof W3 is only available in 3.5 mm thickness. You may want to look at the Waterproof W4, which is available in 5 mm and 7 mm and has similar features to the W3 wetsuit.
adam k : On the back is it easy to bring up the zipper from the front without seeing what your doing. How do I measure my size I am 5'9" weight is 156 lbs., what do you suggest?SCOTT S : Size Medium would most likely fit. It is an easy zipper to use.LUJAYN A : Hi, go to this link http://www.waterproof.eu/sizechart/ this the size chart in the Waterproof website Thank youSimon W : The suit is easy to zip up on your own. The tape attached to the zip ensures an easy zip up- and down, even if its a tight fit!CHRIS M : Yes I've been very happy with the suit it's easy to pull the zipper up from the back and I am roughly the same size as you and a medium fit me just fine. No regretsDOUGLAS C : M. Long pull cord. Easy to pull upSELO I : On my 5mm full Waterproof, it was super easy as I could put it on/off by myself. On the 3mm Waterproof, sometimes the zipper catches something in the lining and you may need a buddy to finish the job. Still, fantastic wetsuit!WAYNE M : About half the time I need help with getting the zipper closed. I'm 6' 2" 185lbs and the L/t fits perfect. This is a good wetsuit. I've dove 200-300 dives with it and it still looks new!FRANK D : It takes practice I usually get my buddy to help
THOMAS J : How will this 3.5 Waterproof suit affect my buoyancy and weighting? With my current 3 mil I carry I am 165 lbs and perfectly neutral with 8 lbs and no air in BCD. The shop owner where I looked at the Waterproof 3.5 suit thinks I might need to add 4 lbs......seems like ALOT of extra bouancy from the suit.OREN S : Every suit will be unique in terms of it's build and associated buoyancy and your build (fat index if you will); I would have a hard time believing that the additional 0.5mil would require an additional 4 lbs, but in the event that it did, given I have owned one of these suits now for approximately 6 years and absolutely swear by it as the most comfortable/versatile suit I have owned, I would gladly and without hesitation add the additional 4 lbs - just sayin :-)JOSEPH B : I can't speak for how much weight other divers use to affect their buoyancy and trim, but in my case I did not have to alter my weighting at all with this wetsuit. I weigh 145 lbs and I typically use 4 lbs of weight with other types of 3 mm full-length wetsuits and an Aluminum 80. I use the 4 lbs of weight to compensate for the tank's positive buoyancy characteristics at 500 psi. For this Waterproof W3 (3.5 mm) wetsuit, I did not have to add any more weight; I am still neutrally buoyant at 15 foot salt water (5 msw) safety stops with 500 psi in an Aluminum 80 cylinder. I hope this piece of information helps.JOHN E : I also wore a 3 mil one piece before buying the waterproof. It is true the waterproof adds some buoyancy because it has extra material from zipper points and it is thicker. But I believe 4 pounds is too much as well. Maybe 2.DEAN H : 12lb is what i figured before i read it all thats what i use it is the best suit i have used in my 55 years of divingWAYNE M : I'm about 180 lbs and going from no suit to wearing this one I add 4 lbs.CHARLES D : That seems like a lot. I have the 3.5 and it's about the same as a 3 with the caveat that the 3.5 will be new so maybe 2 extra lbs for the first 10-20 dives.GARY R : The weight requirements for the 3.5 would only be 1-2# more than your old 3mm. Try it with the same weight as with your 3mm first because you may not need any additional weight. You will enjoy the Waterproof and experience a really premium article of dive gear.Chris L : I have this suit and found I had to add 2 pounds while using the same equipment configuration (same tanks, BC, etc).DOUGLAS C : 2 pounds should be more than enough. If you were going to a five mill, I would recommend 4 pounds.Enter an answer to this question.ANDREW K : Hi- I found the super high quality material and semi-dry aspect where the legs, sleeves and neck don’t allow as much water in, keeps me a bit more boyant. I’m 6’ 245 I use zero weight with a steel 100cu Or 8lbs total with alum 80cu I ALWAYS bring some extra dog bone clips and zip ties to make a few easy to add weights. First few dives when I’m messing around I might need more weight, especially if the suit is really dry vs my 30th five of the week when it’s getting a little saturated Either way it’s an amazing, suit!KEVIN S : The hard thing and why they may suggest that - we assume your current suit has been used a lot and thus compressed. So I did have to initially add some weight - maybe 2 lbs, but within 50 dives or so was back to much less. I'm 180 , 6 foot and also 8lbs with that suit. I might have done 12 for a while - and depending on everyone else's experience... sometimes I do carry 12 so I can hand out weights under water...Igor B : I’m 178 lbs and 10 lbs on belt works perfect for me with that suit. I don’t think you’ll need extra 4lbs.
Shopper : I'm 5' 11", 48" chest 46" hips, 44 waist...the closest fit in the sizing chart is an XXL without getting too long of a suit. How well does the suit stretch...will I be too constricted in the chest?Alan L : I have found that the suit stretches very little. I should be an "ML Short" according to the size chart, I am wearing a medium and it fits perfectly. The suit does give a little, but it should be skin tight without constriction. Once I got wet, the suit eased up. I hope this helps, I couldn't be happier with this suit.Angelo F : Waterproof has continually improve the sizing.. The W 3 material does has some stretch by not Like the hyerstretch material from other manufactures.. The w 3 is one of the best 3.5 suits on the market.... Thank you for your questioHAROLD B : I am 5'9" chest 44, hips 39", and waist 36 and 189 lbs. I have a XXL and it fits me great.RAPHAEL B : don't know, I bought a M size sooryMICHAEL M : Bottomline: yes, it will be too constricted in the chest. The suit does stretch some, but not enough to make up a two inch difference. One thing I've learned with Waterproof over the years...if you don't fit neatly within their recommended chart sizes, DO NOT purchase the suit. While they make extremely comfortable and durable suits (I have several which I've taken all over the world with me), it's not worth ruining a dive trip/experience because your suit doesn't fit right. Trust me on this one, I made the same mistake with my first W3.5mm. Best, MikeCHESTER P : Same chest. Fits niceDAVID B : The suit runs very small an they do not stretch as much as some of the others on the market. PATRICK A : The suit stretched a bit but I found the sizing chart to be spot on.

Love it

This is a great wetsuit. All the details.... articulated bend points for elbows and knees. Silicone tread on butt to stay put. Zippers at arms and legs to make it easier to get into. Half zip at neck to adjust neck fit. Love this wetsuit.

Warm but floaty.

I have used this suit on about 45 dives so far around Bonaire. It is the suit of choice for many of the instructors and dive masters on the island. It is very warm in the water, which is good for me, no issues there. On land it is hot! I have to doff it after exit and quick! This is one well insulated 3.5 suit. Easy enough to get on and off, lots of zippers to play with. One issue I have with the suit is that it is floaty. it traps a lot of air. In my old suits I was perfectly buoyant with 10 lbs and no air in my BCD. Now I have to add weight to go down. I have had to add 2 lbs to descend. After the suit compresses at depth it becomes less buoyant and I have to add air to to remain neutral. Which uses air and is a distraction. Some with the suit say the floatiness works out after a while, but mine has yet to. Maybe next trip.

Love the zippers!

I like this style because of all the zippers; neck, wrists and legs. Makes it easy to take on and off. I ordered the same size (ladies medium) as my 10yr old WaterProof 3 ml and this felt larger, even though I weight a bit more than I did 10 yrs ago. Wish I'd ordered a size smaller.

Good fit. Flexible. Excellent for Tropical SCUBA.

Not the easiest to get into and out of. MT was a good fit for this 6’-1”, 165 lbs body. Suit was very flexible. I tend to feel colder than most when diving. This suit was perfect for SCUBA in surf temps of 78-80 F in Belize.

Excrllence in design and build quality.

I discovered the Waterproof line of suits during an endeavor to find a 3mm one peice that I could zip when diving solo w/o becoming an contortionist. Once I had the 3mm WP in my possesion and found that I could easily zip, I looked at the details that made this possible and found a myriad of other desireable details. I immediately bought the 5mm version and I am very pleased w both. These are very wrll designed and fabricated wetsuits.

Great fit and very warm for a 3mm

This suit is well made and loaded with features. I love the expanded sizing offered. I'm hard to fit in some scuba suit lines. This is the best 3mm suit I've owned in 33 years of diving. Sizing chart is spot on.

Great suit

Best wetsuit you can buy. I usually run cold even in tropics but went 3mm to try it. 80 degree water for over an hour and very warm and comfortable. Even one dive I forgot to ship neck. Fits well and moved well. Passing on back was nice as well. Only issue I ran into was just a bit short on me. I am 5 11 so should have went talk size but none in stock and needed suit right away.

Size M too small

I bought this on the recommendation of another diver. I liked the construction and style, but it's too small. I'm 5'9", 160lbs, about 40" chest, 34" waist -- pretty average. I'm writing this review to help others with fit.

Fits like a glove

I've only rented wetsuits before purchasing this one. They usually didn't quite fit right, not being made for a taller skinnier person. This wetsuit fit me perfectly. Previously only XL wetsuits fit me, but were very loose around the waist. The Medium Large Tall is all I needed with this one. Its VERY important to go by the sizing chart. Some of the features are really nice, like the small front zipper to loosen the neck when you are waiting on the boat, and the ankle and wrist zippers provide a nice seal for your boots and gloves and make it much easier to put the suit on and take it off.

Waterproof 3.5mm Wetsuit

Wanted to wear/use the suit for a few seasons in various conditions before writing this review. This is a high quality product that is quite comfortable both in and out of the water, flexible in the right places, warm, and rugged. Very flexible system when coupled with lavacore vest and shorts underneath to extend comfort into colder waters. Like most things in life, it's a little more pricy at the front end, but delivers and looks like it will wear well for years to come. Would definitely buy again.

My most favorite wetsuit ever

Warm, flexible, durable and the pink trim is fun too. I love this suit. Buy it. You won't be sorry. It's pretty true to size and the fact that it comes in a shorter person's size is amazing.

knee pads flake

Love this suit but disappointed that the knee pads flaked almost on the first dive. Suit is still functional but the knee pad issue was bothersome for such a well made wetsuit. Love the fit and look. I have a 3mm, a 5mm and a 7mm. Only the 3mm flaked. Go figure.

Little pricey but worth every penny

I bought this as a replacement for my SeaQuest 3mm that I have been using since 1995. This suit is a true to size. I got it in medium. I'm 5ft 5in 160lbs and it fits fine. Not to tiight and the zippers make it easy getting it on and off in a hurry. I originally tried the subgear 3mm definition in grey. It was a fight getting it on and off. It was like trying to put on Plastic Man or that guy from the Fantastic 4. No zippers in the wrist and ankles. I sent it back and the W3 was recommended to me and the rest is history. This is a great suit for those deep summer dives in the Gulf at the Flower Banks. The W3 and all my gear I use 12 pound for neutral buoyancy in salt water and 8lbs in fresh water. The zipper cuffs in the wrist and ankles make it easy for getting it on and off. They allow the suit to fit easy over gloves and boots. This suit is well constructed and I am buying another one just in case they quit making them. I will probable replace all my wetsuits with this series. I think Waterproof is my new brand.

Knee pads split on first dive, the "waffle" lining is extremely uncomfortable and chafing. Will definitely be trying to return this product!

Nice wetsuit

This suit is a bit snug and a little more difficult to get on because of the lack of stretch. However once its there it is comfortable and durable. I really like the zippers. Only two things I would change. There is a hard plastic closure on the back of the neck that rubs and the knees started flaking off my first dive.

Great suit - great size options

The suit is great. I'm 6'2", 190lbs, with a 44" chest and 33" waist and I needed the Large Tall size. Fit was very snug across shoulders but good everywhere else.

Great suit with great sizes

The suit is very durable and at 3.5 will be extra warm for long pool sessions in a cool college lap pool. I am 6'2" tall and 190lbs with a 44" chest and 33" waist and the large tall fit very well across most of the body although a bit snug in the shoulders till it gets worked out a bit. The large was too short in the arms and legs and made the shoulders extra tight.

Amazingly comfortable, warm wetsuit

This is the 4th Waterproof wetsuit I own. I'm 5' 8", 185 pounds and have "thick bones". A number of years ago on the second week of a liveaboard diving with a "stretchy" highly rated wetsuit, I was incredibly sore trying to pull the suit over my hands and feet 4 to 5 times a day. I went looking for wrist and ankle zippers. The Waterproof 5mm I bought was great, but eventually started to compress. Subsequently I've bought another 5mm W2, a 7mm W2 and now this 3.5 W3. They are easy to pull on and off. The pleating of the interior material really does stop water flow and I can wear a lighter wetsuit for temp than I normally would. I'm an experienced recreational diver, now over 800 dives from Indonesia to Bonaire. I can't recommend a wetsuit more highly than this Waterproof and the equivalent 5 and 7 mm versions!!!

Run way small

All my other equipment and wetsuits are size lg, I bought this off the size chart so I ordered an XL got it and to short in torso and shoulders and arm diameter. Made for short narrow shoulder, skinny armed people. I am 5'10" 200lbs not stocky but average build with a bit of a belly. This seems to be cut for a slim person with a short torso and very skinny arms. Ended up with a 2xl which is ok in fit now but a bit large in the chest area so I have looseness in the arm pit and crotch area. Nice product well made just made for smaller frames, one of the reasons is it is a 3.5mm and the material used does not stretch like most other mfg.

Made for small framed women

Had to send back as sizing is way small and doesn't stretch very much like other neos on the market. Recommend going with next larger size on the size chart. Well made just too small in the sizing.

Suit for stickman

After trying the L. I tried the XL, it might have been a better fit if I could put it on. But like the L, I could not pull it over my forearms, which are well within the normal range. The size charts are worthless. And the arms must be improperly designed. Customer service was clueless so I abandoned any hope that an XXL might work. Naturally, the website wasn't working properly the day I called, so I couldn't even think of looking for another suit. Interestingly because the suit seems well made, if I could find one that fit, I might try it, but since I still have to repack the XL to return it, that might be awhile.

Waterproof is a very well made brand of wetsuit. It conforms very well to body joints, which prevents one from looking and moving like the Michelin man. I compared this suit to other "brand name" manufacturers 5mm styles (incl Hen*#*son) and for the money, this was my clear choice.
