Questions & Answers

Shopper : I'm getting into a commercial dive fishery in Alaska and will be spending lots of time underwater. My drysuit has neoprene cuffs and is 5mm thick. Wondering if this glove will be an improvement, or if cuffs will hinder the performance?HENRY M : Dear Alaska Diver: I like my gloves because I have arthritis and have a hard time putting on my right glove. If you have a dry suit I suggest you get the "DRY GLOVES", the blue smurf or orange ones. DUI, Whites and others offer attachements fro dry gloves. If I had the funds I would buy a dry suit. I have a 5 mill farmer john wet suit and they fit fine for me. Hope this helps. Regards, Henry in Betheda,MD.JOHNNY S : These gloves will keep your hands warm. They are thick and may hamper dexterity to some degree. They are almost impossible to zip up with both gloves on. I zip them first then put them on. The zipper has came unzipped on me a few times, but still kept my hands warm. If you are looking for a cold water diving glove these work great, however I would recommend something that will Velcro around your wrist and not zip. They are durable and offer good grip compared to other gloves I use.CHARLES K : These are great gloves for keeping your hands and fingers warm. They do allow you to do some fine motor skills, but not many. In a rescue class, we had to remove a bcd from an unconscious swimmer. I had to take the gloves off. The gloves will fit over your cuffs, so that shouldn't be a problem.ROBERT M : If you put the cuffs over the glove you won't have any trouble. If you try to put the cuffs in the glove ther is no room. You won't be able to keep them zippedJON D : First off, good luck with the commercial diving. I did that for a while and loved it. Now on to the gloves, I love them as well. keep in mind that they are not dry gloves, but will keep your hands fairly warm in Alaska. I actually use these gloves for my current job, which among other things, is a rescue swimmer in Alaska. I love the fit and comfort of these gloves, i recommend them for anything but deep, long, cold dives. But they would be great for commercial work.JOE S : I really like this lined glove for its' ease of on/off and its' warmth. I have a pair of 5mm and a pair of 3mm. I use the 5 with my wetsuit [wrist unzipped.] I use the 3 with my drysuit in the winter. I bought a pair oversized to go over my wrist ring system/$5 chemical gloves I bought at Lowe's. I don't put them on until I am in the water and everything has been adjusted [I wear a full face mask in the icy water.] They slip on easy. Again I don't zip them up. I highly recommend these gloves. I have tried about 5 other types.BRIAN Y : (Caveat: I've only dove with these once in 48f water) I dive a neoprene suit in Seattle, cuffs may be 5mm when folded. I purchased these gloves hoping for a "dry" glove (ie. minimal exchange). Turns out that with my suit, the zipper was a bit over stretched and didn't want to stay fully closed. The bit of material behind the zipper prevents a nice tight seal against the suit cuffs. My hands have stayed warmer with slightly oversized Henderson(?) super-stretch 5mm gloves and wool glove liners. The G1s without liner were cold enough that they remain as my backup gloves.KERRY J : Shopper, I recently purchase a pair of these for suction gold dredging in the Anchorage, AK area. Wore them twice in +30*F water worked great ! Just for added warmth would order 7mil next time. Also for longer use adding Aqua Seal* along thread seams might make them last longer! The company should use Kevlar* thead on diving gloves especially if used in heavy work areas. Order extra pairs!!DANA M : While I do not have long term extended experience with a wetsuit with a neoprene cuff with these gloves on I can still vouch for the ease and comfort of these gloves. Having the fingers bent half way really saves you strength in the long run especially if you are going to be using your hands a lot (who doesn't underwater?) anyway..great gloves overall
Shopper : I'm trying to decide what to get. Why did you pick this one?PETER S : I chose this for several reasons: 1)5mm is the right thickness for the cold water I dive in: 40-50 deg. Some may prefer a thicker glove, but I find this to be the perfect balance of dexterity and warmth. 2) This glove has ridges on the top that resist scuffing and wear. 3) The glove has a zipper which makes donning and doffing easy. I don't like pull on gloves that are difficult with limited exterity or velcro strap gloves which tend to come undone underwater after they wear down 4)The glove has a very ergonomical curved form that improves dexterity 5) I hadn't tried these on before buying, but they fit great. I typically wear an XL and bought large and they're perfect. 6) The glove has a glideskin seal which is very comfortable and effective at sealing out water. It also has a convenient place to write your name so another diver doesn't mix up your gear. 7)Overall its a very high quality glove that stands out from others in appearance, fit and function.THOMAS H : I checked with dive sites and Waterproof had a good reputation. I needed something warm, since I regularly dive in 50 degree temps. Yet, I wanted the dexterity of a five finger glove. I like the zipper and the thumb grip. All nice features when suited up. It fit the bill for me.MICHAEL L : I picked these gloves because I have a lot of trouble with cold hands (so I need gloves) and getting most gloves on. So I wanted a pair with zipper. These gloves are GREAT, nice and warm but never hot, and very ez to get on and off. They have a molded shape so are comfortable as well.JOE S : I needed a glove for winter diving that was easy to put on/off while in the water. I own 3 finger mits and several other pairs of heavy gloves. I wear a full face mask and must make strap adjustments below the surface. I have wide hands and have had trouble putting on my other gloves. I wanted something with a zipper that I could tighten up later [ there aren't many on the market with zippers.] I am unable to tighten it though because my drysuit wrist material is too thick. I now just dive with it unzipped and very little water gets in. I wear a pair of 1.5mm neoprene gloves underneath. I enter the 35* water with these and then put on the Waterproof gloves later after everything is adjusted. I find these gloves comfortable, flexible enough and warm enough for the 1/2 hour I usually spend in the water. With some gloves there is not enough loose material at the end to allow you to get a good grip on the second glove to pull it on. These have plenty when unzipped. These gloves suit my purpose and I do recommend them.JAE H : I bought this one for cold water diving but wasn't warm as I expected but for other uses, it was ok.CHRISTOPHER J : I bought these gloves because I was looking for something a warmer than my regular gloves. I love these gloves in the cold water. My fingers stay nice and warm. The only probelm that I've had with them so far is that the zippers have a tendancy to slide open during use.ZACH L : I got these to ride my jetski in the coldest conditions but I ended up returning them because they were too thick for me to hold onto the ski. However they were extremely warm and kept my hands dry. I would say get the 3mm ones, but not if you need to hold onto anything rather tight. Hope this helps anyoneASHLEY R : Extremely comfortable and warm, and particularly easy to put on and take off due to the zipper. They mate nicely with my semi-dry wetsuit and provide reasonably good dexterity in a cold water glove. Chose these over the XS Scuba Dry Five gloves which were very difficult to get on and off.STEPHEN C : They are similiar to the old style OMS gloves which were very good at one timeBRIAN Y : (I dive dry in 44-54f water) I was looking for a replacement for a HiTide glove that I've nearly worn out. I like the zipper that makes it easier to get the gloves on and off. I hoped that the smooth seal would provide a nearly dry seal when zipped up over my neoprene drysuit cuffs. With just one dive so far, this didn't work like I had hoped.FRANK D : I use these gloves for cold weather diving with my dry suit. I dove two months ago in New Jersey and I was very comfortable (54 degrees). They look really good and the zippers work very well with the gloves on.PATRICA T : theses gloves i love them and will never return them and i threw 2 pairs of gloves away ...and they will keep your hands warmCHARLES K : Easy, the zipper. These are easy to get on and off. 5mm gloves without a zipper are difficult particularly after you've put the first one on. BTW, this is a great pair of gloves. Waterproof makes the best stuff. Much better than Henderson.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?DON S : Have used in the past. Best that I have usedDB A : I have tried the three fingered gloves but discovered that in an emergency weight dump or removal of gear, the "crab" style gloves did not afford me the mobility I needed. Much of the BC and other buckles are ridiculously small. I so wish the manufacture geniuses would extrapolate their heads and stop with the petite sized buckles and start making large accessible buckles. Until then, I find the five fingered gloves to be most useful and this particular set of gloves were tested in 49 deg water.GERARD M : Cold water gloves for activity requiring dexterity of 5 finger gloves, will use with 7m semi dry, dry suit and 5mm Henderson suitJOEL P : QualityLEILA W : It was highly recommended by a friend for wetsuit divingCARRY L : replacing the pair I wore outALBERTO MARCO A : it's my first time using it, I'll comment in winter time very soon ... thanks for ask.Juliana J : Boyfriend wanted themMonica F : Good reviews by women,FRANK M : Waterproof you cant beet there products the best you know what they say you get what you pay for. Bit expensive but well worth the extra cost..ROBERT M : Ahhhh warm hands at lastDANA M : I love that the fingers are bent half way saving you a lot of energy

Great set of gloves.

Great pair of gloves and they kept my hands warm in 49 degree water. I dive with another diver who uses these. And they had them in my size as I have huge hands.

Great glove but wrist doesn't play well against dry suit seals

Great glove. I bought these after I found the 3 finger claw 7mm version too bulky and didn't like not being able to use my hands for things like operating reels etc. No problem on that front with these, and warm too! Many of my buddies use these too. The only negative is the wrist is a bit too long when you're wearing them with a dry suit with latex wrist seals as the glove pushes into the seal.

Best gloves!

Best gloves hands down. Warm and a good dexterity considering their 5mm. Integrates well with wetsuit wrist seals.

Best cold hand protection yet.

High quality construction. Gloves are superb at keeping my fingers/hands warm in cold water. I get more bottom time just because of these.

Best gloves

Waterproof gloves are the best gloves. The side wall makes all the difference, and they barely, barely let any water in.

Best cold water wet gloves I've ever worn

Best gloves ever, unless you go dryglove. Comfortable, good grip, easily put on (even when wet). I've owned 4 pairs. two 5mm and two 3mm.

cold water gloves

These gloves did well in water temps around 65 degrees, although I could barely manipulate a turn knob on my camera and using the inflater became even a bigger challenge.

missing zipper tab

My boots have a little Velcro flap that you fold over the zipper once the boot is fully zipped. This stops the zipper from coming undone as would otherwise happen and does happen on other boots. This same feature should exist on high end gloves as it would only add pennies to the cost but would stop the glove from unzipping during your dive which of course this glove does. Other than that it is a great glove, but because this detail is so obvious to include and because having ones glove unzip is so frustrating I think it fair to subtract two stars from the rating. I will probably add a Velcro tab myself. This should not be an issue on an expensive glove.

Warm in the cold

These gloves kept my hands warm in Sechelt Inlet while there was glacial runoff at the surface around 38 degrees, while diving they did a great job with dexterity similar to other cold water gloves. Putting these on compared to my old AquaLung 5mm gloves is like night and day. The inner liner just feels warmer at first contact even on the 2nd dive when they're wet. They are semi-dry so they do fit a bit tight. The only issue I've had is being able to zip the right hand side over my drysuit sleeve. But, that's what a dive buddy's for. Great gloves, highly recommended.

Best gloves I’ve owned.

I have small hands and short fingers, these are the only gloves I’ve found that actually fit well. I dive strictly cold water and use the 3 mm gloves. My hands don’t get cold. Freaks people out. Lol

Best wet gloves ever

By far the best glove I've ever used (for cold water). I've been using these for almost two years. Great dexterity for 5mm. My hands and fingers stay warm even at 31 degree water. The best part is that the zipper makes then easy to put on and take off. And they easily fold up when wearing a drysuit as neoprene gloves don't cover the wrist like in a wetsuit.

Waterproof G1 5-Finger 5 mm Gloves

Love these gloves enough that I have bought several pairs. Worn them for lots of dives each in rough conditions until they wear out. Keep buying them for comfort and design.

there are cheaper better gloves available

Do Not get me wrong these gloves work pretty well. First they keep my hands warm in 52 degree water for 60 to 90 minutes of diving. I like the formed fit. They look like they will hold up but out here Oregon so far no gloves hold up for much more than a year. The zipper makes it easy to get on and off but has yet to stay up during a dive. Does not seem to matter that much because the fit is good and hands stay warm anyway.

Warm gloves

Bought these gloves cause while deep diving off coast of California. After about 30 mins. My hands would start to go numb wearing 3mm gloves Now With these I'm not having any problem at all even after an hour. They are a little less flexible and are harder to put and zip up but overall a great product. Looks like it's built tuff.

Great glove

This is a very well made glove and warm, although I gave it a 4 star only because of the zipper impeeding my drysuit wrist seals...but you just need to fit them around the seal. Thry are probably best with a wetsuit with no zipper on the lower arms. Note that they tend to run on the large size so I had to buy one size down, thanks to LPs great exchange policy.

Not recommended

I am a fan of waterproof products having two of their wetsuits and a drysuit but these gloves do not cut it. They are well made and fit nicely but the zipper is I) extremely difficult to close once the glove is over your wetsuit and II) opens by itself. While I could live with the difficulty in closing the zipper that it opens by itself renders them useless. Too bad.

Greatest Gloves Ever

These are by far the best gloves I've used. Initially, I bought them because I was tired of fighting with putting on and taking off gloves. The zipper makes them extremely easy to put on and take off whether wet or dry. They are very warm and surprisingly mobile for 5mm. I dive in waters at low to mid 40s and hand warmth is not a problem. When zipped fully, I haven't had the zipper open either, but I try to wear my wet suit over the zipper as much as possible to avoid any kind of problem.

Great product. Good quality construction

I used the size template I printed out from leisurepro.com The gloves fit the length of my fingers perfectly. The gloves do not fit super tight around my fingers. This might cause more water flow but they are easier to don and doff than my old gloves that fit very tight. I was in the water with them for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was 50 degrees and my hands were toasty warm.

Best gloves on the market.

These gloves are the best I've ever owned. Solid construction, great fit, and WARM. You can't beat Waterproof exposure suits. The gloves are the same quality and value as the entire line of equipment. I have 35 years expierence in recreational diving. You can't go wrong with these gloves. For a little warmer temps, consider the 3mm.

Zipper can be tough at first.

The body reacts to cold by adjusting the blood flow to the extremities, like hands, fingers and feet. White Fingers is a common condition in extreme cold or a result from prolonged exposure and decreased blood flow. If you add restriction and squeeze into the equation these conditions can worsen Waterproof's G1 Glove series is constructed with all this in mind. Better fit and flexibility, enhanced warmth, less restriction and squeeze

The G1 5-Finger 5mm Gloves have an ergonomically designed 3-D shape with pre-bent fingers for a more natural fit. The glide-skin seal, extra-long durable and quality YKK zipper with pull tab mean easy donning and doffing. Built to last the gloves seams are glued and sewn with bonded high-quality nylon thread and the I-Span super stretch nylon will give you many seasons of warm hand diving. The G1 5-Finger 5mm Gloves have a polyurethane embossing that provides a non-slip grip and abrasion protection, reflective logo and an ID-plate so you know these gloves are yours. Gloves are available in multiple sizes and are black in color.
