Questions & Answers

Shopper : How is this knife to be carried while snorkeling?SCOTT S : You could wear this on a belt or in a pocket, since there is not leg strap included you could use bungee cord to make a wrist or leg mount.LARRY MICHAEL L : It's meant to be attached to a hose off a scuba regulator. You could carry it in your hand, in a pocket, or you could rig some kind of loop with surgical tubing. It's really not meant for snorkeling - no way to attach it to your body like leg or arm straps. It's a scuba knife.Frederick C : I use it for scuba so it is attached to BCD. For snorkelling perhaps find a leg strap.
Shopper : Hi. Is there anyway to clean the tang inside the handle?STEVE C : fraid not - it is molded onto the knife metalSCOTT M : NNevery had to
LARRY MICHAEL L : How does the locking mechanism release? What do you press/where is it located?DOUGLAS S : pushing a small button towards your hand, slightly awkward.Angelo F : The hose mount mounts to the casing.... the Hose mount is a C clamp the has a knob which secures it...MICHAEL F : It is a button that slides up toward the handle to release it. search for "TUSA Mini BCD Knife" on youtube. There is a video showing how it works.RAY T : The locking mechanism is located on the sides of the hard plastic sheath. The knife snaps into the locking mechanism. To release the knife, just push both buttons with your thumb and probably your first finger. Just putting the knife back in the sheath will snap the locks into place. I dive in cold water and can easily do with with my dry gloves on. It's really a nice mechanism.MARK L : There is a small black button at the base of the sheath. When you place the knife in the sheath the knife clicks into place, then you push the button forward (toward the tip) for another click that locks the knife in. To remove it, move the button back toward the handle (another click) then pull the knife out of the sheath. It's very easy to do just by feel, and the sheath holds the knife very securely. Great small knife!
LARRY MICHAEL L : Does the hose mount use screws to attach?DOUGLAS S : yesAngelo F : The Locking mechanism works by twisting the knife and pulling ...MITZI A : Yes, mine could attach either by clip or with the 4 supplied screws to the hoseSTEVE C : Yes on the screws - However, I am member of police dive team and our diving is pretty rugged so I used tie-wraps (plastic) instead - I attached the scabbard directly to the inflator hose withOUT the special adapter.TORI S : The screws attach the knife to a plastic piece that encompasses the hose.MARK L : Yes. If you look at the picture of the belt clip attached to the sheath, there are 4 screws holding it on. To use the hose mount, you remove the belt clip (which I would never trust anyway). The hose mount aligns with those 4 holes, and you use the same 4 screws to secure the hose mount to the sheath.CHAZ E : It does use screws to attach. It is very secure and low profile. The knife itself "nicks" into the scabbard and is held very securely. I have almost 60 dives with this knife and never had a problem with hoses or other gear getting caught up on the handle. Best insurance you could ask for in case you need to get untangled from some fishing line, nets, or other underwater snags. Glad I've never needed it, but glad I have it just in case.
ELIZABETH S : this is advertised as BLUNT tip, but photo shows POINTY tip. which is it really? Also, interested in attaching it to low pressure BC hose (if it really is BLUNT tip), how do i do that?DOUGLAS S : Blunt tip, generic photosALICAN A : Yes it does come with a blunt tip. It also comes with a seperate hose attachment. So you can use that to attach it to your low pressure BC höse.CHRISTOPHER C : I ordered this and specified blunt, and that's exactly how it came. I also attached it to my BC LP hose via a Tusa mini-hose adapter Item #TBTK100HA. Which you unscrew the stainless steel clip and use those screws to attach the hose adapter. Works like a charm.MARK L : This knife comes in both a blunt tip version and a point version. Just be sure that when you order you are specifying the BLUNT tip. The pictures on LeisurePro aren't always accurate, but I have found the descriptions and the ordering process to be true. The knife comes with the steel clip pictured, which I used to attach it to a BC by poking the screws through the fabric from the inside of a pocket (be sure you don't poke through the bladder area) and attaching the sheath from the outside. Using the clip mechanism alone I'm sure you would just lose the knife. It also comes with a HOSE ADAPTER to attach the sheath to an LP or HP hose. I do love this handy little knife. Hope that helps!STEVE C : The ones I bought are blunted - I used a Plastic Zip-Tie & some parachute cord to attach it to the Right side of our Police Dive Team BC's. The Tie & Cord fit through the scabbard and around the BC harness and hold it in place pretty well. It is really not meant to attach to a BC hose but U can make it work. Our Team prefers it on the Right side and upside down so u can remove it with one hand, in case u are trapped and need it to cut your way free. There is a kind of metal Clip on the scabbard but I removed it to make it easier to attach.MARTIN H : That is not the blunt tip knife. The blunt tip is squared off. I believe they provide an adapter that mounts to the LP inflator and comes with it. I put mine on the pocket of the BC.ALAN C : I got one and it is blunt tipped. It also comes with a hose attachment, although I ended up zip tying it to the front of my BC. Hope this helps

Little Knife that Could

Very small, but did the trick. Nice line cutter on the blade. I used it with the Tusa knife attachment kit to attach the knife to a Scubapro Bella BC.

TUSA Mini BCD Knife

Well made knife and sheath. A very handy size and light weight. Knife locks very positively into the sheath and if I lose the knife, it will probably be user error. I liked the mounting options that were included in the package but opted not to use the hose mount as I am just not comfortable having something that sharp near my hoses :/

TUSA mini BC knife

I actually bought mine used from somewhere else, but thought I'd weigh in anyway. Overall, this is a slick little knife. It's a little more petite than i was expecting, but it's not unacceptably tiny, it's still functional and able to be handled safely. The sheath is surprisingly solid and robust, being that it's basically just a little bit of plastic. The locking mechanism seems very adequate, and after playing with it a good while, I'm confident the knife isn't likely to accidentally fall out. If someone drops a 5-lb weight directly on the locking mechanism, it'll probably thrash it, but otherwise, it should be pretty damage resistant. The blade on mine looked to have been un-used, and still had the factory edge, but wasn't very sharp, so I gave it a few minutes treatment on my Spyderco sharpener, and now it's pretty nasty. I'm not normally a huge fan of serrated edges, but for cutting cordage in a hurry, it's very practical and quick, and in this application, is appropriate. Also, since it should rarely, if ever, be used, there should be no issues with sharpening it (the biggest downside to serrated edges). For this money, this is a pretty solid option for a rarely-needed backup tool.

Tusa Mini-Knife Review

Wonderful little knife, small but gets the job done. With the hose mount it keeps the body stremlined and does not get in the way. Secure holder, cant loose it.

Tiny! Not sure you'll ever use it?

This is a nice, tiny little dive knife. I attached the belt clip and tossed the hose clip which I now regret. The steel in the belt clip is very weak and bends easily so it doesn't attach securely to anything. For now, I have it attached to my big blue dive light wrist harness. I sandwiched a piece of the harness between the belt clip and the sheath and then screwed on the belt clip. Seems very secure! However, I am coming to the conclusion that you don't need to dive with a knife. Seems like shears would be better for most things like entanglements. For hunting I suppose you would need a pointy tip and if you tried to lever something with this tiny knife I'm guessing either you or it would break...so if you know this is what you want and you want to attach it to your inflators hose, this is great. Otherwise, maybe go for shears? In 20 dives, I've never used either.

Good Security Blanket

Since I often dive alone I need to be prepared. I don't expect to ever need this knife, but I'll be glad to have it if I do. It has a secure locking sheath so I don't worry about losing it and a reliable hose mount. The curved grip is easy to hold. The blunt tip can be used as a screwdriver if needed and seems safer to use in a situation that could be harried if I ever get tangled up.

Small but high quality knife

I bought this to use as a primary knife while recreational diving, and am happy with the quality and size. It's a little smaller than most knives (I can't wrap my last finger around the handle when gripping it), but I like that it's easier to pack and carry as a result. Also consider the BCD knife attachment (sold separately) if you'd like to screw it to rivets on your BCD - it's a nice combination.

well made knife

I have not taken it diving yet but the knife appears to be a very well made blade. I'm not to sure about the release mechanism though, seems fragile and may be difficult to release knife with gloves in cold water.

Useless

I bought four of them (one for each of my family members)… I got them all attached to the BCD inflator hose, and 3 of the 4 just fall out of the sheath at random, and one no longer even pretends to lock in. It's best to leave this knife at home, cause if you dive with it, you'll lose it for sure.

Exactly what I wanted

As a solo diver I require redundancy. I wanted an additional knife, hose attachment, in case I dropped my primary. This was to be a replacement for my Z cutter which always rusted/corroded (no stainless blades anywhere). I find myself consistantly reaching for this knife instead of my "primary". Very sharp and the locking mechanism is something I can depend on - both for positive locking and for easy release when you want it. Big enough to be a serious tool but small enough that it is unnoticable as a hose mount - till you need it. I got the blunt tip because my "primary" (now backup) has a tanto tip. I felt the blunt was safer as a hose mount and I already had a sharp tip if needed. This knife has been very useful during dives for milfoil remediation. Rolling mats (35' by 25') with rebar every 3' we sometimes need to cut rebar ties, slit mats, and always cut material to tie the rolled mats with cloth tape strong enough to lift the huge weight to the surface (lift bags and winches). This knife has stood up to the task admirably. It's my go to ...

Great second knife!

Love the hose kit that comes with it that is the one reason I bought this knife. I wanted a second dive knife for easy access and I added this one to one of my hoses so I could reach it if I couldn't reach my lower one.

Compact

Having at least one knife, readily accessible, is an essential piece of gear. I bought this knife as a "starter" until I determine what's the best type to have. It's relatively inexpensive, and it's compact size makes finding an appropriate place for mounting on your BCD easy. Since I am left handed, I mounted it with the clip on the right shoulder strap of my BCD. This way I can reach across with my left hand and remove the knife without having to switch hands. For right handed divers, the hose mount may be your best location. The blade locks into the sheath and disengages easily. The blade felt relatively sharp out of the box, but I'll give a few strokes with the stone anyway. Eventually it will be my backup knife, but for now, it will serve it's purpose well.

Nice knife would recommend getting one

I have used this knife to cut things and being that it has a blunt tip I have also used it as a screw driver. I use the hose mount which I find very convient and you choose where to put it on the inflator hose.

not a BCD knife

I was expecting a knife that would attach to my BC. This knife has an open-ended clip like you would see on a boot knife. It also comes with a fitting so you can attach it to your hose. But this is not a BC knife; it's a hose knife. Zip ties are your only recourse if you expect to attach it securely to a BC.

Awesome as a Primary or Back-up

This knife is a must have! Some people may think it too small to use as a primary but it works great for me as I am just a recreational diver. I leave it clipped to my BCD while diving and the locking mechanism gives me all the peace of mind I need. This knife is however, extremely small. It can easily fit into most BCD pockets. The small size can sometimes be a downside when using gloves, but the design keeps it from being completely useless. Haven't had it in the water but a couple times, but haven't seen any rust.

Good back up!

Great thing to have besides your main knife. I attached this to the hose inflator, so to have it handy on my upper body in case of entanglement. The lock works good and it's not loose at all.

Rust Free! =)

I've had two TUSA dive knives and they have been fantastic and rust free without more than just rising my BCD in fresh water after every dive. Other, cheaper brands I've used such as the one with the seahorse as the logo have rusted from day 1.
