Q&A

Questions & Answers

Jeanine J : Is this mask appropriate for scuba diving or more for free diving?ROBERT R : I use it for both. Wears well but strap system is weak.DAVID W : Great mask for free diving (fits well, good visibility, low volume) but strap buckles are fragile.FRANCISCO B : It's more for free diving...it's an excellent low volume mask which is what we need for Spearfishing or freediving
Ryan H : Are the lenses glass or plastic? There are conflicting responses.YAN G : They are Tempered Glass.JAMES L G : Glass
Shopper : Can replace with required near sighted lens?BRIAN M : These masks are European manufactured and I believe some models do come with prescription lens options, but you would have to contact the manufacturer for availablitiy and models.. A really good optician or lens maker may also be able to assist or custom fit some lenses to it. It would be expensive, I'm sure, but I've heard of it being done. I am lucky enough to be able to use "as is", but with normal vision I am subject to the magnification distortion of underwater phenomena like anyone is. Hydro-Optix made a corrected lens mask that gives you an undistorted view I think based on near-sitedness. You might want to check them out. HydroOptix if they are still around.YAN G : Only option would be to bond the lenses in. This is not a service we provide.
NELVA F : I HAVE A WIDE FACE AND MOUSTACH, DO YOU THINK IT WILL FIT WELL AND IF POSIBLE TO GET PRESCRIPTION LENS? ROBERTOJONATHAN M : si se adaptan muy bienCARRIELYNN P : I have what might be a medium sized face with no moustach and this is my main mask and love it. A friend of mine always put something like vasiline on his moustach before a dive and it helped. As for prescription lens I would email sporasub usa for that one. Great mask though, try it out. And yes I am not a bubble blower, only apnea!JAMES L G : No, this is a small mask. Must have a small face.FRANCISCO B : Hi Roberto: I got the Sporasub mask because of its extremely low volume, light weight, cool looking and comfort besides the huge and wide vision it gives you. To my knowldge, this mask fits very well to small to medium faces but it doesn't mean isn't going to fit on your face, this is hard to tell... I don't have a moustach and all depends how thick it is, just try another low volume mask to see if water gets in, in that way you can decide because a thick moustache some times is a problem... I love this mask because of the reasons above although I have a Cressi Occhio Plus and a Omer Alien, they all work great and are very fine masks done for one purpose: Spearfishing and free diving because of their low volume. About the chance of getting presc lenses, I don't know. Good question for Leisure Pro but I think you should be able to do it since it's a high $$$, high tech and a super fine mask (Top of the line!!). I hope my comments helped you a little. Regards, Francisco B.MOHAMED E : Hi This is a very nice mask with very soft silicon I don't think there is a problem with wide face, but not sure about moustach Dunno of there is prescription lenses for this mask, I use contacts, do to the small volume I don't think u can use "stick on" lenses Hope this helpsERIC B : I have i medium size fit and this mask fits me perfect. However, the rubber on the mask is VERY soft, and will likely fit many face structures. I would put in on before you buy it though. As far prescription lenses go, I would contact sporasub.MICHAEL L : The mask fits best on a medium to thin faceBRIAN M : Roberto, I have a pretty big head myself 24" around. This is a very low volume mask, it fits close to the face, and is a breeze to clear of water, but If you've got a big bushy moustache it could interfere with the seal for sure. All you can do is try one. The seal skirt is actually pretty wide and comfortable. I was surprised at how well the view translated compared to masks with bigger lenses. It's really a pure predator mask if you ask me, meant for spear fishing specifically. It its geared for free-diving, and made for low maintenance, ease of clearing with minimal effort, and low profile to preserve your streamlined profile in the water, and your free diving air. I use it specifically for spearfishing and snorkeling, I use a Cressi Fish eye type mask for SCUBA. I would guess that the lenses would easily be prescriptionized because these are just as close to being goggles as they are to being a diving mask, but you should ask Sporasub directly, and expect to somehow translate European standards to USA or the other way around. I'm not sure though, I've never worn glasses or had to wear prespription lenses. (knock on wood!) Good Luck!!GREG F : This is a great Freedive mask. However it would not be good for someone with a wide face and facial hair.
Shopper : ARE THE LENSES POLYCARBONATE?JONATHAN M : es muy buena y son de vidrio templado y tiene bajo volumen muy buena mascara desde que la compre me a salido muy bien y buena visivilidadJAMES L G : Each lens has a T at the bottom. I assume this means tempered glass.ANDREW B : They are T emperedMICHAEL L : Yes they areSETH S : No the lenses are glass not polycarbonate . Best mask I have ever owned.JAN M : no,it's a glass.FELIX A : Yeah, I guess, the lens has nothing written, but they are not glass, definitely .......DAVID A : No, the lenses are glass.BRIAN M : Unfortunately my gear is now in winter storage, so I can't check. My recollection is that they are glass, but you'd have to ask Sporasub. It is a really low volume mask, and close-fitting and it gives you a predatory look I think. Very comfortable, and easy to clear quickly. Also the angle of the lenses increases your peripheral really well. It's not quite as good a view as say a Cressi Big Eye, but it's not bad at all. I use it for freedive spearfishing almost exclusively, sometimes quick snorkel explorations too or hull checks. It's small and easy to port around it a bag with fins.

Good Mask

The first Mystic mask i bought i had for about 1-2 years. After a while the plastic bracket that connects the rubber strap to the mask frame snapped when i put it on my head (probably my fault from stretching too much and it was unusable after that. I bought a second one and so far so good. My only other knock on the mask is i seem to leak alot of air from the bottom of the mask in the upper lip area as I'm coming up from a deep dive. The mask fits me pretty good but for whatever reason i have a hard time sucking my mask to my face on the way up and keeping all the air in. This is really only an issue if you are diving 50-80 feet+ and are concerned about leaking oxygen from the mask or doing strictly freediving (vs spearfishing)

Couldn't Defog

First off, I have to say that this is the lowest volume mask I've ever seen. It's an averaged sized mask, just with super low volume properties. The mask sits so close to your face I could feel my eyelashes touch the lens when I blinked. That being said, I could never defog this thing. I tried the lighter, toothpaste, slate cleaner, mask cleaner/defogger, and every trick in the book and nothing worked. I dont know if it was just mine or if all of them are like that. I had it for about 5 months and never used it because every time I tried, it would fog up and I would whip out my trustee Omer Alien. I ended up giving it to a friend... maybe he'll have better luck than me.

The best in every way...

This is now my favorite mask for freediving and spearfishing. It fits great and is very low volume. It comes in green and it has a matte finish. I don't understand why all dive equipment manufacturers make mask and other gear in that shiny black silicone that makes gear look cheap and ugly.

High quality product

Light and seems high quality. The volume is super low, my eyelashes may need a trim. The skirt is also very comfortable. Fit is good for my face, I am an average size Caucasian male.

The perfect mask

Is there any word beyond excellence? The Mystic is way above perfection. I use mine for Spearfishing and it's simply the best mask I've ever used. It never leaks, fits perfect on my face, visibility is great and wide enough,it doesn't put any pressure on my face going down, the strap is easy to adjust and comfortable, high quality lenses give you perfect vision deep under water. Comes black & green and makes a perfect match w/ the Breeze snorkel which is excellent also. I highly recomended it to Spearos & Free Divers.

A superb mask! Well designed!

I have looked for a long time for the perfect mask. Since I Freedive as well as Snorkel, I wanted a mask that was comfortable, low volume, durable and has a wide field of view. This mask has all of that and more. Many low volume masks sacrifice field of view for low volume. This mask fits so close that the lenses are socketed into my eye orbits: I have the same field of view as my large-lens Mythos mask but my eyelashes don't touch the lenses as they do in some other highly reviewed freediving masks. The super soft skirt is very comfortable to wear for long periods time and seals very well even though I have a mustache. I have a medium-large face with high cheekbones and pronounced brows: Once I position this mask properly, it fits like a suction-cup. Sporasub has really engineered a great mask with great attention to detail and quality manufacturing! The mask is simple but very robust. This mask is tough and will survive the rigors of spear-fishing and technical diving. The non-glare matte silicone is less distracting to fish as well. Five Stars!!

Unlike most masks the Sporasub Mystic Mask is made with just two components a polycarbonate frame and a liquid injected molded silicone skirt, which mechanically hold the lenses. Most mask incorporate lens retainers that place the mask further away from the face narrowing the field of view. This Sporasub design reduces the inner volume and increases the field of view for a great view of the marine environment.

The mask straps tension teeth have been increased in size to ensure the strap will not slip when wet eliminating the requirement for adjustments when diving. The mask strap buckles are made from an acetylic resin which increase's traction on the strap, further reducing the risk of strap slippage. The masks buckles are attached to the mask frame which eliminates distortion of the soft skirt allowing the skirt to better form-fit to your individual facial features. Buckles also swivel up-and-down in an arc of 70°.

Both the mask frame and the skirt have a non-reflecting satin finish. The Sporasub Mystic Mask has a double feathered edge silicone skirt with a wide split style silicone rubber mask strap. The double feathered edge skirt and wide strap work in concert to produce even pressure on the face for a superior seal. The Mask is equipped with an easy-to-reach one-hand nose pocket for ear equalization which can be utilized even when wearing thick gloves.
