Questions & Answers

Shopper : overall length ?JUNE H : Length will be approximately 7 inches. VICTOR K : Overall length not including lanyard is 7 inches, width is 1 and 3/4 inches.GORDON B : For me the length is just right in that it not so short the switch is my palm, or so long its a pain and in the way.TODD B : It is approximately 7 inches long.HARRY D : 6.75 inches from tip to tip. Diameter is 2 inches at the widest point. I bot this as a betweener light. A super large back up light or a mini primary light. It is a bright little light. Unless you are a player for the NBA I recommend using a lanyard since it does have a good size diameter and will fill a normal size hand.
JAMES J : What is the approx. burn time on rechargeable batteries, e.g., Eneloop 1,900mAh? I need a light that will last at least 2 hours on a charge.JAMES J : This was my question. I bought one light (Princeton Tec Torrent LED). My rechargeable batteries are very slightly wider (thicker) than regular AA Alkaline. You can't see it, but I've noticed it in some devices. WITH RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES, YOU HAVE TO FORCE THE BATTERY PACK IN AND IT IS VERY HARD TO REMOVE IT AGAIN. The light does work with Ni-MH batteries. So, a warning to those intending to use rechargeable batteries. I'll write a full review after our next trip.MICHAEL D : On the Eneloop 1900mAh I don't know, but I took 3 dives, each about 1 hour in length with the alkalines that came with the light and noticed no dimming whatsoever.CHARLES C : How long they will last depends on the led power. I got the Supper Nova. Its expensive but its rechargable and last for 2-3 hours on one charge and even longer on the low beam. Great for bug diving ext.
JOEL P : Now wide is the beam? I have a backup light that has an 8 degree beam. I'm curious if this light has a wide enough beam to be used as a primary light on night dives.CARI M : Switch broke on my first dive. Never got to use it. Too lazy to go thru return process so it is now in a landfillBRIAN D : It could be primary for night but I prefer to use my larger Princeton tec for that...no doubt I've seen people use it as primary for its smaller footprint. Bottom line is I love mine!JERRY D : Its wide enough for a primary but I use it mainly for hunting fish & lobsters under ledges. Works great & super bright.Monica s : The company does not provide the beam angle but it is more on the narrow side, not quite as tight as an 8degree angle but more narrow than the typical primary. Given that it is 280 lumens you could use it as a primary.YAN G : This is a wide beam with a center spot that is a bit brighter. It is not a tight, concentrated beam. Some people do use this as a primary, but it is generally considered a backup light.
Shopper : I have the 90 lumen version which I upgraded from the 47 lumen and haven't really seen a difference in performance. Can someone who's tried both the 90 and the 280 lumen models comment on the increase in brightness? I'm looking for an inexpensive light to use for day and night diving in New England waters. My 90 lumen model is a bit dim and I'm hoping this fits the bill better.DAVID H : The bright light of the 280 lumen led Torrent is awesome when compared to xenon lights. The bright blue light illuminates color contrasts as well. I liked it so much I bought another.MIYUKI S : It will be brighter but I would recommend the Underwater Kinetics SL4 eLED L1 Dive Light SKU: UKTSL4EL http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/UKTSL4EL.html 400 lumens and tight, penetrating beam as well as great overall quality. KEVIN D : Technology has changed since this purchase was made. The LED lights are much better.JEREMY W : I bought one back in 2008 to use add a dive light. the light is bright but didn't have the penetrating focused beamiwas expecting. I think it's more of a wide dispersed beam of light underwater. Very bright just not the focused beam i was looking for. CARI M : I used the light once, it leaked. Everything rusted and I threw it away.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Mike M : Replacing a lost similar light. Well engineered and bright.SHERRY P : After much research and discussions with many divers, the size and power is the best match. Many spoke of the fun of a bigger light but gets in the way and is bulky. This light can be placed in the BC for streamlining yet bright enough. Plus LED is a more reliable light win it comes to electronics. No bulb to break or overheat.BYRON G : I chose the Princeton Tec 280Lumens Torrent LED dive light because I needed a small, compact, extremely bright and reasonably priced primary dive light for recreational diving. I decided to purchase it after reading the reviews. I will write a review after I use it. Can't wait. Hope my expectation is met.DENIS F : I had the earlier version of this light and Iwas very happy with the light hunting lobsters. I lost the light at a beach and now this light is a better deal and a higher brightness. I have had issues with other lights, leaking and the batteries dying quickly. This light with 8 AA batteries should stay bright for a few more dives.TOBY A : Very powerful flashlight in a nice easy to hold size.MICHAEL W : This is a good vest mounted light for those times you wish you had a light. Now you can carry one all the time without the bulk of a big hand held.

Leaked

Just returned my second light. Both leaked first time used. Suspect the switch. Good news is LeisurePro and Princeton Tec quickly replaced the defective lights. Second time I bought a different brand.

Old school work horse

I've been using this light for a few years now, hole hunting in NorCal. I beat this light up pretty good and it keeps going strong. Never flooded, and the switch is reliable. Puts out plenty of light, but compared to newer technology, it's big and takes a lot of batteries.

I would buy this product again

This is a good, compact liked that easily fits in a pocket. Bright at close range but loses some intensity at distance.

Great light

This is a great diving light. It is small, yet very bright. It could be used both as a primary or a backup.

Very good light for the price

I prefer to night dive with a light in this range rather than really bright lights; I also prefer a relatively narrow beam rather than a wide beam. As I take pictures, I need to be able to turn my light off with one hand -- I need a switch, not two hands to rotate the front bezel. This light fits the bill. I got about 4 hours burn on fresh AA's. My "con" is that I can't put rechargeable batteries in this light. If anyone knows how, let me know. When I use my rechargeable batteries, I have to force the battery pack in and it is almost impossible to remove.

Good warranty, poor design.

Went to Caribbean on a 2 week dive trip. Used the flashlight on the first dive. Front lens separated and flooded the light. Was replaced free of charge. Have not had a chance to use the new light.

Great bright light

I have a home-made forearm mount designed for hands-free use of a torch light. I use to mount my Impact XL on the mount, but this is a backup light and I wanted a primary (brighter) torch light to use instead (as my Princeton Tec Shockwave II is a pistol grip). So far the Torrent has worked wonderfully. Solid, bright light but still compact enough to attach to my forearm mount. I did have a problem with the switch on the first one they sent, but Leisure Pro was very responsive and replaced it. No problems so far with the replacement.

Inconsistent

I teach a marine biology course and ordered six of these to replace some other lights. We take our students on a few night dives. Of the six, one needed to be sent back immediately as it didn't work. One failed on the walk to the beach (before it ever touched the water). The replacement for the second broken one came with a faulty switch. If they worked consistently, I'd love these - but, they do not.

Really bright, good size. Solid

I have taken this on 3 night dives now. Very easy to operate under water (switch on or off if you want to see any glowing phos). The light outshone all my dive buddies with a nice white light. Wondering how it fades over time but nice and solid and didnt leak. Other dive buddies torches exploded OMG!

Reliable good light for price.

Got this on special and liked LED when compared with Halogen and Xenon lights dive friends had. Good solid feel in hands. Worked fine at depth. Would Recommend for price. Would make great second light for the big light crowd and good first light for anyone else.

Princenton Tec LED review

I purchased and used this light on some cavern dives, and a night dive. Worked flawlessly. Small, very bright, and reliable. I would definitely purchase again. Switch activated so there is no chance of flooding it when turning it on/off underwater. Also has a lock so that it doesn't turn on in transit.

Good light

I recently purchased and used this light for a night dive in Cozumel. I was pleased with it's light weight and high intensity. It performed well and I had no problems with it. It sure beats having to lug around a heavy light especially with the airline weight restrictions.

Poor quality

The first one I had broke the second time I used it in less than 2 weeks. It was the switch mechanism. I got a second one. On both, the switch lock is flimsy and ineffective. It turned on in my BC pocket by itself even though it was locked off.

Nice light when it works

The first Torrent I received as a gift would not turn on under the surface. It worked fine above the surface. I sent it back & Princeton sent me another one (no questions asked). The second Torrent I received worked intermittenly; sometimes the switch would work, sometimes it would not. I can't rely on this light. Maybe the third time is the charm?

Great when it works

Its a good light, when it works. I had to tape all the batteries together because one would slip out just enough to cut the current. With the tape, this light is great...

It's a light bright light

This is the first light I have owned. I have used it as a primary light on a couple night dives so far. It is light, compact, and very bright. My dive buddy's bulky 6 C cell halogen was not as bright as this LED light, but the light produced by the LED does not show colors as vividly as the halogen.

Great compact primary light

First product I've purchased from Leisure Pro. Fast delivery to Australia. Even with a $40 shipping cost the light was $20 cheaper than purchasing locally, with the Bonus smaller Princeton Tec thrown in! Will purchase from Leisure Pro again!
