Questions & Answers

Adrian M : Does this valve replaces my octopus? It would be great if I don't have to carry a second mask with me. Thanks.Ronald C : No it definately does not!!! This valve allows you to breath normal air at surface and not use up your tank air.MARTIN W : No it does NOT. This valve allows you to open it and breath fresh air at the surface. This allows you to keep the mask on at the surface without continuing to consume air from your tank(s).Tucker K : This valve takes one of the two ports on the mask. I have this valve on the left side of the mask and an octo on the right.HENRY A : No. The valve is opened on the surface, allowing you to breathe normally, so you don’t waste air from your tank unnecessarily. Replacing a snorkel sort of, but you face has to be out of the water.william m : The valve does not replace your octopus. It allows you to breathe from your mask without using air from your tank when you are at the surface.Carl K : Hi ... no it does not. It replaces the current valve cover which is essentially just a cover. By replacing with a SAV, it will allow you to open the port and breath ambient air so you are not using up you tank air while for example sitting on the boat. Additionally, you can open it while floating on the surface and I've found little to no water comes in ... sort of a snorkel replacement. Be CAREFUL opening it too far! It will screw right off. To use the port as an octopus, you would have to mount a whole 2d stage to the port. FAR more cost-efficient and effective to just carry the extra mask ... I picked up a mask case for ~$14 and just hook it on one of the lower D-rings on the BC.Edward M : This valve is for breathing air at the surface instead of draining air from your cylinder. There are times at the surface you may be hanging out with your mask on, waiting for others. Opening the valve lets you breath air without using air from the tank. Otherwise you'd be sucking air from the cylinder. Carry that spare mask my friend. Chin up!MATT S : That valve is for breathing on land or when you surface and waiting for a boat if your low on air. you will need the second mask if you need to remove the full face in a emergency. Look up the Emergency protocol for wearing a full face mask if could save your life I always keep a mask in my pocket just in caseGeorge G : No, the valve let you to breath on the surface with out using the air form your tanks. I'm carrying the second mask all the time. Two days ago my quick connect failed, air was escaping and water was getting it. I had to remove it and use octo with regular mask. Apparently quick connect was not tight enough.Jacob E : No it doesn’t it simply allows you to breath on the surface with out using your tank air. You open it on the surface and you breathe “regular” air and close it before going under water and breath tank air.BRUCE S : NO This Valve replaces the need for a snorkel it's only purpose is to conserve air while on the surface hence the name (surface air valve). You will still need your Octo incase of an emergency at depth. If you open this valve under water you will fill your mask with water.LUCAS P : This is so you breath from the ambient air while at the service. You close it prior to descending and there is a separate hole for an Octo port.RONALD Q : This valve does not replace your octopus. This valve allows you to breathe surface air when open so that you do not continuously breathe from your tank. It is great when suited up on a boat waiting to get in the water.BRENT V : Surface air valve is for breathing on top, there is an adapter that goes in that port and allows a second regulator to attach to the maskCeaser C : Oh ok sorry my understanding is would still have to carry another mask and if your primary fails you would still have to switch to your secondary valve. Which mains you would need the other mask.Cuong N : No. This valve is attached to your full face mask. You open this valve when on surface so you don't used up your tank air. You will always need octopus as backup for you or your buddy.MARK E : No it does not replace a octo.. it’s simple a fresh air vent you open when your at the surface or putting gear on the boat so your not using your tank air and saving it for the dive.. make sure you close it before you jump in or before you drop down for the dive or else your mask will flood. It’s a must have for the mask!! the original one that comes with the mask you have to unscrew the hole thing and kinda hard to put back in when your mask is on .. this one is half turn and you can breath with ease.. hope you understand this?Ceaser C : Sorry forgot to add this allows you to leave your mask on when you surface and allows you to put it on before entering the water from boat or whatever. Just don't forget to close it when defend.Ceaser C : That valve is what you open when you are on the surface, so you can breath open air and not use your air in your tank.
Shopper : What color is the valve?WILLIAM H : The valve includes "color rings" to match the color of your mask. You install the appropriate ring to match. Very easy.Marc E : The body of the valve is black and it has colored sealing rings (blue part on picture). It is send with selàing rings one off each color to fit with you mask.Tucker K : The valve is mostly black, however it comes with multiple colored rings that you can use to match whatever color mask you have.DOMINIC F : The knob is black but it comes with several different color rings to match the mask colorTINA M : It is black and it comes with differant color o rings to match your full face maskMARTYN K : they match the various colors of the mask.NIN G : all the mask colors are included in the package. you get all the colors so you can choose a blue valve for your blue mask, then switch it to an aqua valve when you have a change of heart.JASON C : The valve that I received is Chrome, assuming you are referring to the quick disconnect valve that does not come with it...
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?DAVID D : SAVRAYMOND J : this wasn't,t available when I bought my mask 4 years ago.It seems like common sense to get it after paying over 800dollars on another MaskMARTYN K : i bought this item because neither it nor the quick disconnect fitting are included with the ocean reef g divers full face mask. they are almost essential items and really should be included.

Ocean Reef G Divers Surface Air Valve a MUST HAVE

Definitely a must, If you spend anytime on the surface with the mask on it is a must to conserve your air supply. It's a lot easier to just open the valve than taking the mask off and on

Seems to work very well (at least outside the water)!

While I haven't had the opportunity to get into the water with my Ocean Reef full face mask yet, I have installed the optional Surface Air Valve and tried it outside the water to see how it works. Fantastic is the only way to describe it! Five stars for this optional accessory!

Love it.

No better mask in my opinion. No more dry mouth, great visability, easy to put on and off. Get the quick disconnect and surface air valve for the best experience.

poor position, works though

The Surface Air Valve is absolutely necessary if doing a surface swim for any duration to save air, but this is the only reason why I recommend it. Unfortunately, it's positioned badly, but at the same time, you have no other choice. You need a Surface Air Valve, and the only adapter is in a bad location, so yes I recommend getting this product out of sheer necessity, but no, it's not a really good thing. You have to keep your chin above water the whole time. What if I don't want to fully inflate my BC? Plus the mask is so heavy to have to hold up with your neck. The added buoyancy helps, but you can't do that because the surface air valve is so low that water will get in if you relax your neck. The OTS guardian got their surface air valve placement right. Otherwise, it totally works as intended. As with all full-face masks including OTS etc, as soon as you use the valve, there is a pungent briney odor because you're breathing ocean air rather than tank air.

Must have Attachment

This is an essential attachment for the full face mask. Being able to put the mask on and breath ambient air is truly essential in conserving your tank and getting comfortable. I wouldn't dive without it.

Was as expected warning though

I followed the directions for install. Warning though - to open the valve you turn it counter clock-wise which is the same direction that will unscrew the whole valve unit from the mask and possibly cause you to lose it at the worst time (while diving and waiting to dive down). Suggest using something to help lock it in place once installed so that under normal use the whole valve will not unscrew. Once my second one arrives I will be trying lock-tite or maybe a silicone sealant to help hold it in place.

Ocean Reef G Divers Surface Air Valve a MUST HAVE

By Dominic F.

Definitely a must, If you spend anytime on the surface with the mask on it is a must to conserve your air supply. It's a lot easier to just open the valve than taking the mask off and on

If you own an Ocean Reef Full Face Mask (FFM) and spend time on the surface in a ready-mode, you know that you can waist a lot of air with your FFM on your face. The G Divers Surface Air Valve (SAV) allows the user to breathe ambient air at the surface, conserving tank or surface supply air. It is simple to use, and its low profile keeps it out-of-the-way.

The SAV is designed to conserve the diver's air while on the surface. This is Not a snorkel. Generally, when diving with a full-face mask, the diver is breathing off a scuba bottle or surface supplied air. With the SAV, the diver can breathe ambient air without removing his/her FFM. Operating the SAV is simple. If you rotate the valve counterclockwise, you will breathe ambient air. If you have the valve rotated fully clockwise, it will be closed, and you will breathe off your supply air. For compatible masks see SKU's: OEDNSG, OEDNSGK, PCKNSG).
