My wife laughs when she picks up my vest when we head out sea kayaking, "my god it weighs a ton". Well, when you are a mile off-shore and may slide off the front of the boat (note boat-we paddle tandems) having all that stuff is very calming. Don't ask how I ended up there, the point is that this vest has room for a SPOT, VHS radio, first aid kit and a bunch of stuff I hope to never use but at least I have it attached to me. Having it attached to the boat is definitely second best.

I wanted a PFD that was comfortable and did not ride up while kayaking and this one exceeded my expectations! Also, the color is bright and that's an added benefit!

This PFD does the job, but I'm not completely thrilled with it. I like the pockets for sea kayaking. There is good capacity for phone, marine radio, and flares, but the front pockets do stick out a bunch. I made the mistake of mounting my river knife on one of the front patches. The knife handle extends above the pocket and sticks out. My paddle sometimes catches between the handle and the front of the PFD when I bring the paddle close to my chest. I get a similar thing with my radio antenna. PFDs with a front kangaroo-style pocket avoid that problem because knife & radio sit closer to your chest and are diagonal so you are less likely to bring your paddle down on top of them.

I like this PFD pretty well, I have a Stohlquist Trekker PFD already, but the main reason I bought this one is because it's supposed to be cooler, with lighter material and a mesh back, and it definitely is more comfortable and cooler on the hotter days out paddling. But, I am having a lot of trouble adjusting it to fit snugly yet comfortably. In particular, the shoulder straps ride up off my shoulders and end up brushing against the side of my neck, which is really annoying. It does have a waist strap which you can really crank down tightly to alleviate this problem a little, but that gets too uncomfortably tight. I am going to keep fiddling with the straps and the fit and maybe I can get it to fit better. I do like the pockets.

Let's try this again. I just wrote a review, sent it and the company deleted it. I am very pleased with the cVest as I have used one for many years. The back padding is high and comfortable, and knife is placed high on my chest, strategically positioned. It is quite comfortable on long trips and is very durable. Now the downside is that the PFD is so comfortable, that, while my new one that I just purchased was hanging in my rental business, somebody came along and stole it. I now have to purchase a new one!

I have been using the cvest for many years, and have enjoyed its durability. The pockets are nicely placed and I've enjoyed the back padding up high. It is so nice in fact that I just purchased a new one approximately six weeks ago as mine is getting old. I purchased the same one and it's such a good PFD that somebody reached into my rental shack and stole it. I will now will be purchasing a new one again.

Very happy with this PFD. Lower back mesh allows for good contact with the back deck when rolling. Numerous pockets and loops accomodate radio and other gear. Fits great.

Love the Mesh Back. It's cooler on my back when it is warm weather. It also clears the back rest of my kayak.

I love this PFD that I bought to use with my Hobie Passport 12.0 fishing kayak. It is very comfortable with the mesh kayak seat and has plenty of pockets and attachments. The color is great and I highly recommend it.

I've bought 2 of these it at REI back in 2018 and love it. - Because it has mesh in the back it is ideal design for kayaking since it does not intefere with back of the seat. - I love the multitude of pockets. Front pockets easily store phone, sunglasses. - In does not interfere with arm movements when paddling. - sides are open - so it is not too hot in summer. at colder weather is keeps me warm front and back. - And of course - the top notch quality I've come to expect from NRS. NRS rocks !!

I live in Japan. In Japan, I bought NRS products on the Internet because it was hard to find. I am glad that I can make a direct transaction. The life jacket was also cool and the size was perfect, so it was nice to wear and comfortable to buy.

Wow I really like my new cVest life jacket. Fits great and no arm or neck interference at all. Can lean way back with zero seat interference. Main pockets are great and the extra mini pockets are already loaded with a whistle and weather meter. Nice job NRS!

I use this primarily for kayaking, both sea kayaking and recreational. I have had nothing but good things to say about this vest. It fits, great, stays out of my way where I need it to but feels substantial when it's supposed to. The pockets are well constructed and are easy to access & use on & off the water. The features of this vest are exactly what I was looking for and they deliver in spades!

The biggest surprise with the cVest was the size of the clamshell pockets. I can fit my Samsung S7 Active in one of them and zip it closed without issue. That's a great feature for me, especially when fishing tournaments. If you have a big phone or maybe a bulky case, the full-length pocket will suffice to store your phone on you but secure. I also really appreciated the double pull zippers on the pockets. The back of the cVest has high flotation and then a ventilated mesh back. That low back sweat that leads to swamp butt for us bigger guys is lessened quite a bit. With all the frame style seats now, this becomes even more important. You don't want a full back of foam pushing you forward all day. A technical feature that is pretty cool is the foam for flotation. In almost every pfd I've tried, including some previous NRS models, the foam flotation is a big piece of foam for each side and the back. The new NRS cVest uses a new technology they developed using multiple sheets of thin foam which can slide around and adjust better to your body. This cuts down on the bulk and makes a more custom fit lifejacket adding even more comfort to your hours on the water.

This is a good quality PFD but I am returning it because it doesn't fit my body right. I'm not sure why but the upper flotation part on the back sticks out at an angle and doesn't sit close to my back. I couldn't find any way to adjust it to solve the issue. I've tried on other mesh back PFDs and they fit better, so maybe my proportions are just off for this one. It's definitely something I'd recommend buying with enough time to try on and possibly order a replacement if it doesn't fit correctly. Otherwise it's a solid purchase.

I'm own a sea kayak guiding company in Maine and provide gear for overnight trips. I've purchased all Kokatat PFDs in the past but I'm probably going to switch to NRS once I find out how long they last compared to Kokatat. I buy on quality before price. The mesh back is a huge improvement and I really like having four pockets.

I paddle at least three times each week, weather permitting. I've noticed the light color picks up soil very easily.

Great Pockets

Handy pockets. I keep my VHF radio on one side, and four hand held arial flares on the side. A whistle tucks in above the pockets on one side, the other side I can tuck in a snack bar. There's room for mobile phone behind the flares, and a small sunscreen and lip saver in the other. I'd prefer it had a full back, to protect my low back. Although I can see that the mesh back would be cooler for paddling in hot weather. I have a 40 inch chest, and 32 inch waist; the small/medium seems t...
