Normally, I'm a size 10.5 wide. I want these boots for winter kayaking and after reading the reviews complaining about tight fit I ordered size 12 and 15 boots to see how they'd fit wearing wool underwear, two wool socks and a dry suit covering all of that. The size 12 felt tight and remained feeling that way after 30 minutes. The size 15 felt comfortable the whole time. That said, size 15 is a whole lot of boot for someone used to 10.5. The width is great but the length extends an inch and half beyond my big toe, so 15 is a compromise but I'm going with that to keep comfortable feet kayaking during the winter. I wonder how well they will work as a hiking boot for a few miles, were that to become needed. I wish NRS simply made the boots with a choice of much wider widths for a given size.

After reading other reviews on the difficulty of putting this boot on and off I sized up and ordered size 12 and a pair of the 2mm booties, my normal shoe size is US 10.5-11. That arrangement is way too tight, the boots fit me fine without the booties. It does take some wrestling to get them on and off, that's why the 4 star rating, otherwise as a wading shoe they are great and so is the price compared to anything else out there. Traction is good for not having steel studs on the treads. Tip: after lacing the shoes up secure the laces with the Velcro strap and they will stay put instead of catching on debris and untying.

The most secure and rugged boot I have ever worn on the river but still compact enough to fit in the kayak. The fit is close so just like they say, for half size go up one size.

I’ve been using this for about a year and a half now. They’re great at draining water but will remain damp. Since it’s made of neoprene you can expect warmth, which can be both good and bad depending on the weather and climate where you operate. Foot sweat will definitely cause a funky smell when wet in warm weather. The collar is also pretty tight. I’m size 10 but a size 12 fits snugly. I’d say order two sizes up, the construction allows for further tightening around your toebox. The construction is pretty sturdy too, with grippy soles for boat work. It’s worth the price if used with its strengths. TL;DR keeps feet warm but doesn’t dry fast due to neoprene. Order 2 sizes up (mens)

ordered these looking for a good working river shoe. I’m usually one of the “that person needs help” guys, so get into lots of rocks, mud, sticks, etc. Wet suit booties are comfy but little protection for your feet (over 20 years as a Navy diver-so lots of experience with wet footwear). River sandals while protective have other drawbacks. Used these this weekend in central Va river and they worked perfect, excellent foot protection and comfortable in cold water.

Spent weeks doing aquatic surveys in rivers, walking streams with many different depths and substrates, had great support and warmth all the time!

Just about perfect for wet wading. I really like the snug fit which helps with feel and support. If I were to add anything, it would be an option for felt soles to improve traction on river rocks. The price was better than other options too.

Awesome boots. The neoprene inner lining makes them extra comfortable, and they are warm enough for winter rafting in WA. They also have sturdy soles and high ankle support for climbing around on rocks. I have used the same pair for 5 seasons of commercial guiding and countless private trips. I finally just ordered a new pair after hundreds of river days.

Love the boots" have been down several rivers in my float boat either them. Went down the St. Croix today/yesterday and needed to use my kick fins in low current...and they fit over the boots. I'll be going an official review and video at flyfishingwithjeff at some point in the near future!

I kayak fish and there is a lot of brands and styles of water shoes but theses by far are the best shoe I have purchased I had another pair before and I used them really hard from warm water to Pennsylvania cold water and they held up for 3 years and they could probably honestly go on further I just had some extra money and purchased these and I'm in love NRS makes an excellent product go ahead get yourself a pair I promise you won't be disappointed!!

I am reviewing the NRS Workboots that I bought a little more than 25 years ago. Although they look a little ragged, they still perform well. I teated myself to a brand new pair and will review this pair in 2043. Chances are, I will expire before these NRS Workboots do. If you do any regular boating, get a pair of these workboots. They are great for the rafting guide, kayaking and any other water sport that takes you in and out of your boat on a regular basis. Very sturdy yet comfortable.

Have only used these once, but considering they held up so well during our "beam rescue" mission, I am likely to recommend these boots to friends. I plan to wear them on a winter Grand Canyon trip and am hoping they keep my feet warm. The sizing was the hardest part to figure out. I wear women's size 8 shoe. I am also wearing socks and a dry suit, (and wanted extra room for a thin pair of neoprene socks to ease the pain of getting the boots on and off). The size 9 works best for my wintertime boating, and I have a little bit of wiggle room for my toes! I also tried on a size 8, which would work great if I was not wearing a dry suit.

I bought these to hike up a river to find a remote waterfall. I had looked at a variety of different types of footwear, but ultimately decided on these. They worked very well as both a water shoe and a hiking boot. I found them comfortable.

I am using this shoe for Waterfall canyoning. The Rocks there only come in slippery, and the shoe has good grip, but pure slim is hard not to slip on. The sizing is true. I wear 13.5 most of the time, so I bought a size 15 per past reviews, so I can wear my wet suit bottie liners in it. I probably should have tried a 14, so now I have clown shoes. The are REALLY hard to get on and off, So I cut the top 2 inches off and put a slit in the front so they are more like a shoe. Still very hard to get off.

I bought these boots for a Grand Canyon trip almost 20 years ago. I've been wearing them for rafting and kayaking all over the US as a commercial raft guide and private boater. They are starting to look a bit rugged but remain in tact and serviceable. I may treat myself to a shiny new pair even though these will likely give me at least five more years of service. I love to brag to my customers about the quality and longevity of these boots.

They hold up great, sharp shells, thorns, dont get inside , nice tight fit around the leg. Use them for work in swamps, mud, and water. My only complaint they fit narrow, wish they had a wide. Comfortable for 4hrs then they start hurting my toe area.

This is the second pair I've owned, and this boot is definitely a workhorse. My uses are mostly whitewater rafting, kayak and wade fly fishing in both Alaska and the Mid-Atlantic area. In the 38 deg water of the Nenana River my feet were very comfortable. I have put miles on these boots both in the water and on dry ground, and no problems to report. The only downside is getting them on and off with ease should you decide for whatever reason to wear them without liner socks. *Note: liner socks fix on and off issues!

I wear normally a size 10 I ordered these in a 12! and that was a good call as that size is perfect. I only plan on using them in colder temps with footstocking waders. If they were bigger I figured I could wear a bigger sock? I like coldweather footwear to fit loose anyway as I stay warmer. So just a heads up if wondering about size go size or even two up. When I put them to some usage i will update on toughness and such. Seems like good product it is NRS - however they remind me of my Fire Department station boots lol cant get away from work even in the yak.

I took these through narrows top down. They were the perfect boots for this. They kept my feet comfortable with the integrated neoprene, traction was excellent even as i scrambled over slick rocks. I thought they were slightly to short at the beginning of the hike but once I tightened up the laces it resolved the issue. We did a total of 20 miles and these boots held up, and performed perfectly.

My son used these on his 7 day canoeing trip at Northern Tier BSA High adventure camp Atikokan. He love them. When his friend were losing their boots in "moose muck," fine silty muck, his boots stayed on, He did not break them in (usually a recipe for disaster) but he had no blisters even with being in and out of the water and 1/2 mile portages. One of the best purchase for the trip!
