416250 - Ultra Adj 82X
Mares’ Ultra family of regulators is aimed at meeting the needs of the most demanding divers, at a competitive price.
The Ultra’s excellent second stage is constructed in ultralight, ultra-resistant technopolymer. A result of continuous research and innovation; a characteristic that Mares is known for.
Vortex Assisted Design (VAD) allows for unobstructed airflow and consistent natural breathing at any depth.
The innovative Twin Power System offers further adjustment, allowing the diver to control the rate of airflow. A simple turn increases airflow on demand; designed for a diver working hard or making very deep dives.
The excellent Ultra ADJ second stage is pneumatically balanced with the Pneumatically Assisted Design (PAD) system, offering effortless and comfortable breathing in every situation.
Divers will also appreciate the option to fine-tune cracking effort (initial effort to start the flow of air) by simply turning an adjustment knob. Designed to be easily manipulated, even if wearing thick gloves.
The combination of PAD and Twin Power systems, paired with the option to adjust cracking effort, provides the best performance with the most comfort, under all conditions and at any depth.
The 82X boasts a swivel turret with five low-pressure ports - 4 radial and 1 vertical - to meet the needs of all, including advanced or technical divers. All LP ports offer Mares’ patented Dynamic Flow Control (DFC) for elevated and consistent airflow, at all depths.
O.P.D. (Optimized Port Design) is yet another unique feature of this first stage. Two pre-oriented high-pressure ports are angled opposite each other, allowing the diver to use a pressure gauge and/or computer transmitter at the same time. Additionally, the first stage can be positioned with the swivel turret facing up or down, providing maximum freedom of choice.
The purge button is large and on a pivot, providing effortless use in all circumstances.
A Superflex hose connects the first and second stages - a structurally excellent hose which provides support and flexibility for comfortable diving.
Also available as an octopus with the same awesome features.
Moving on to the 82X first stage, the body is forged in brass, chrome plated and finished with a "pearl" surface, resulting in a highly abrasion resistant first stage which offers a unique, elegant look.
Featuring a balanced diaphragm membrane designed to ensure advanced and reliable performance at any depth.

The Ultra ADJ 82X encapsulates a top of the line regulator for serious divers seeking only the best in quality, technology and performance - let’s discover more about Mares’ incredible tech features incorporated in to its design!
VAD Technology
Mares regulators are characterized by VAD technology - Vortex Assisted Design.
This patented, revolutionary air supply system is based on the ‘vortex effect’. Airflow is directed into the mouthpiece area in a rotating movement, exactly like a vortex.
In nature, every time a fluid moves in a ‘vortex’, for example in the case of air, like a tornado, or in the case of water, in whirlpools which sometimes form in rivers, at the center of the phenomenon an area of depression is created. Mares regulators use this same phenomenon, sending airflow, via a special bypass, directly into the mouthpiece of the second stage using a rotating movement, a ‘vortex’, which creates a depression within the second stage during inhalation. This depression aids the lowering of the diaphragm, reduces breathing effort and, as a consequence, makes breathing noticeably more comfortable.
This ingenious solution, compared to the so-called “Venturi effect” on which all other regulators are based, allows for better breathing in all diving conditions. In fact, in regulators using the “Venturi effect”, the airflow is directed straight towards the mouth, often creating an unpleasant feeling of ‘injected air’. In Mares regulators, however, thanks to the VAD system, divers breathe easier, but above all more ‘fully’ and more naturally, even at depth.
VAD technology also proves superior when used in cold waters, as, thanks to this characteristic rotating air, there is a minor drop in the temperature of the second stage which, as a consequence, considerably reduces the possibility of free flow, which represents one of the most common risks in such diving conditions.
Many of Mares’ regulator models with VAD second stages have been approved and used by navy and military corps, including the US Navy, even for dives in extremely cold waters.
The VAD system, whilst maintaining its exclusive operational characteristics, has seen continuous improvements over the years, with a constant study of airflow both using test machines and on dives, which have led to optimum shaping of the bypass tube, as with the Ultra second stage which includes a “doubled-curved” bypass.
Twin Power System
Second stages equipped with Twin Power System technology present, in correspondence with the connection of the second stage hose, a handle, easily operated even when wearing thick neoprene gloves, which allows the diver, at any moment of the dive, to choose between ‘natural’ breathing, typical of the VAD system, or “assisted breathing”, which allows for more comfortable breathing with minimum effort, especially when facing intense work, strong currents, deep dives or, in any case, extreme conditions.
ADJ
ADJ (adjustable) indicates a system to regulate initial breathing effort (cracking effort). In regulators equipped with the ADJ system, via a rotating handle, the diver can change the spring load of the second stage, increasing or decreasing, according to one’s own preference, initial breathing effort. The ADJ system, positioned on the opposite side to the hose, can be easily operated, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves.
If you combine the ADJ system with Twin Power System technology, you can really personalise your regulator to the max, according to personal needs, your own experience and diving conditions.
PAD
The abbreviation PAD stands for ‘Pneumatically Assisted Design’. With this system the diver has a “assisted-supply” second stage. Within the second stage there is an area of “partial compensation” of intermediate pressure, in fact, coming from the first stage, which allows the use of a much softer spring as a consequence and greater breathing comfort as an advantage.
The combination of Twin Power, ADJ and PAD systems, as found in the Ultra ADJ 82X, offers divers maximum performance, maximum possibility of personalisation and maximum comfort, in all diving conditions and at all depths.
AST
The 82X also includes exclusive AST technology.
This specialised, anti-infiltration technology stops moisture and contaminating agents from entering the interior of the first stage, even if the protection cap has been forgotten, when the regulator is not connected to the tank valves, as sometimes happens, especially during breaks between one dive and another, or at the end of a dive, when the regulator is rinsed.
This infiltration can damage the inside of the regulator, the hose and the instruments that may be connected to it, sometimes seriously. Furthermore, it can also cause contamination from bacteria, with possible health risks, or decrease the airflow of the regulator, with a consequent decrease in performance.
Unlike other systems available on the market, always aimed at avoiding possible infiltration, the AST system from Mares does not use springs or other metallic components, but is made only of pieces in technopolymer and elastomer which, as well as avoiding the formation of oxidation, rust and limescale, also have excellent mechanical characteristics, which guarantee great resistance to wear and abrasion.
The activation of the AST system is pneumatic. During the inhalation phase, meaning when there is a request for air, the internal part in elastomer expands slightly, allowing for the flow of air, whilst it closes during the exhalation phase.
This simple yet clever solution guarantees a flow of air without limitations. The drop in high pressure from the tank is, in fact, inferior to 0.5 bar, that is completely insignificant and definitely inferior to that of other anti-infiltration systems, so much so, for example, that Mares regulators equipped with the AST system greatly exceed not only European norms EN 250, but even the very strict Norwegian Norsok U-101 norms, to a depth of 400 meters!
The AST system can also be used for dives in very cold waters and with Nitrox mixtures.
