Questions & Answers

MICHAEL G : Will this work with oceanic Spx first stage?KEVIN B : Not sure how much the Oceanic jacks up the intermediate pressure with depth, but my Mares boosts it quite a bit, and I've used this unit to 210' with no free flow or other issues. (The only noticeable effect was that it breathed a little better than my primary, if anything.) Again, our regs are a little different so take that for what it's worth.
MICHAEL G : Anyone know the intermediate pressure?Mario C : Mares intermediate pressure is normally around 140 psi.
Owen H : What percentage oxygen does this use?Mario C : up to 40% out of the boxSalvador R : 21% if you are breathing from a tank filled with 21% Oxygen. This Mares secondary will support both Nitrox set ups and regular air; Enriched air tanks can vary but should be higher than normal 21% air to take advantage of your increased decompression times. This will be your alternate to your primary for either yourself in a self-rescue situation or for your buddy if he would be in an out of air situation or equipment malfunction.
Shopper : How long can you stay underwater with this device?BONY C : All timeBYRON L : It is a backup regulator, so the correct answer would be "only long enough to safely surface. If you are going to use it as your primary regulator, then technically to no less than 800 psi in a standard dive cylinder.SEAN H : I'm not sure that this shopper understands how SCUBA works. The equipment you use does not dictate how long you can stay underwater. Your dive time is a function of the volume of air you dive with (tank size, one tank vs. two tanks, re-breather?), the depth and time spent at depth (10 minutes at 90 feet consumes considerably more air than 10 minutes at 30 feet), and your compression time (time spent at depths vs. surface time allowing for off-gassing). This particular device will not allow you to stay under water for more or less time.FRANK M : I've trained new divers with it and it works great. In theory, you can breath underwater as long as its working properly. It's yellow as that's more distinctly used for back-up regs and not a primary.
Shopper : Anybody experienced free flowing with this octo before?SEAN H : My wife has this as her secondary breather, and too my knowledge we've hardly used it outside of safety testing. We've not had a problem, but it's new and we have very little dive time actually breathing out of this. Her primary reg is an Atomic Aquatics Z2 Reg, which she loves. I can't imagine this is too helpful, but figured I would offer it up.HECTOR P : Been with one for almost a year. No problem with it!DAVID S : I have had no issues with the octo. it breathes great and only got better after my annual service.BYRON L : I have not had any problems at all with this regulator. It has worked well for me on many dives.

Solid piece of equipment

Sent it to my scuba shop for a check up before first dive as it was stored for a long time. They told me they were amazed of the results of testing, “high budget regulators aspire to the level of performance othis my mares rover regulator system” they said, and showed me. They were surprised.

40 dives and going!

Really enjoy the sizing and flow of this unit. I have logged over 40 dives and it is just a work horse. I really am enjoying knowing that i have a solid product and that I am just diving instead of worrying about the durability of my gear!

Diving with Mares for 30 years

I've logged about 30 dives since getting this reg. All dives off Cali in 50-70 degree water, depts to about 90'. Absolutely effortless breathing, and no issues with free-flowing. Very happy with this product.

Mares Rover

I used this as My Octo and I use the Prestige as My Main both are great... what Made Me fall in love with this is My Girlfriend has Asthma and she talked me into showing her My underwater world..so I had her wrap her legs around Me while holding on to My BCD we went down to 17 feet and she said while breathing off My Octo she felt as if she was laying down relaxing and more important she felt a freedom she never felt before now if it is good enough for her to trust it I am sold now only using the Mares Family of Products...

The best of the best

rugged and great. I couldn't aske for more. Breathes easy and durable. Mares is the best breathing regs I have found. Don't hesitate to get one or two of these. I have a Mares first stage with two of these for breathing. LOVE IT>

Perfect

Very nice, a nice addition to my setup. Great service at Leisure pro, more than willing to help you. Will for sure buy from them again.

This medium-size octopus made of techno-polymer features a cover made of soft material so that the purge button is easy to push. All Mares second stages are a reliable downstream valve design and offer the unique patented Vortex Assisted Design (VAD) system. The air bypass tube conveys air to the mouthpiece creating a swirling vortex with a low-pressure area in the center that keeps the diaphragm down during inhalation, for very sensitive and easy breathing at all depths.

The second stage cover features the new "mesh-grid" system for water inflow and outflow, which provides a further performance improvement. The patented mesh design of the second stage cover reduces the pressure of water flowing onto the regulators diaphragm and minimizes free-flow. Even in a strong current it eliminates the need for a knob to de-tune your air delivery system- advance technology through basic physics.

Mares Rover Octopus incorporates the Fluid Dynamic Deflector, developed after in-depth studies and tests of fluid dynamics, is engineered to receive and properly direct the airflow from the bypass tube to the mouthpiece. Combined with the VAD system it delivers very natural and effortless breathing. The Mares Rover Octopus comes with a 39" (100cm) yellow low-pressure hose and weighs 13.6 oz. (385 g) with hose. Regulator is Nitrox ready up to 40% oxygen out-of-the-box.
