Questions & Answers

john a : is there padding throughout or just fabric construction?SHANE E : Just fabricROBERT M : There is no padding, but it has strong fabric construction. There is solid reinforcement in the roller end and numerous compression straps both inside and out. You can fit a lot of gear, clothes, whatever in this bag. Works well taking gear to and from the boat.KENNETH D : Not happy with Leisure Pro refund policy and outdated stock!DAVID H : JUst fabric but it is fabulous. I have had several others and this is by far the best.KIM E : It is mainly fabric. There is plastic reinforcement at the bottom, and some limited on the back in the segments that fold up. The biggest positives are that it holds a good amount and folds up to take very little space when empty, like Is convenient for a live aboard. The biggest negatives are the average durability, the lack of an extension handle when pulling it through airports, and the soft sides which means it won't stand upright on its own unless you pack it just right.
Will-Nattakrit W : How are are fin pockets? I can get a Scbuapro Jetfin XL into them?SHANE E : I put my Mares X-stream fins in the side pockets when traveling and they fit perfectly, also fit's the Oceanic V-16 fins that I've traveled with a couple times.ROBERT M : I have a pair of Scubapro Seawing fins and they fit with room to spare.JOHN M : fin pockets are plenty big for finsCARLOS E : The pockets are made to store Mares fins, like the Quattro or the Excels. I don't tink a pair of jetfins will fit in themKENNETH D : Yes, I carry two fins in each pocket, an Apollo Bio-fin-LL and an Atomic PRO Split fin XL. The fins actually support the bag and work as solid sides. The bag rolls up nicely for storage, on the boat or at home.
Frederick C : Is this the latest version of this bag from Mares?YAN G : Yes, it is.LAWRENCE D : Latest or not, it is light. Light means more weight for your equipment without going over airline restrictions. There are two basic versions of this bag. One with a retracting handle and one without (shown). Either bag has plenty of room and is durable enough for travel.
Shopper : Is this bag carry on size for airports?SHANE E : NoJUNE H : It is not a carry on bag Overall Measurements are 18.5" L x 12.6" W x 31.9" H (47 x 32 x 81 cm). It is the bag that you will need to check in. It will fit a full set of cold water gear + extras or two sets of warm water gear. STEPHANE B : no definitively not, but what a good bagDOUGLAS M : No. This is not a carry on size bag if full with gear. Once folded it could be carried on. But if ur carrying gear in it definitely not. MICKIE B : No, it is not. But the top outside pocket detaches and can be used to carry on regulators and dive computers.MARK M : No.Once unfolded for use it is the size of regular luggageWILLIAM S : No this is a full size bagALLEN M : No. This is a full sized bag. This will hold your max 50 lbs of gear and then some. Folded up empty it would be carry on size.CHAD B : Not if you have anything in it. It is a very large bag that will fit everything you need to dive.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?ROBIN P : Dive friends have one and it is great, Better than our duffle!

Mares Foldable Gear Bag

Bought this bag before a liveaboard trip and thought it would be great for a trip like that with limited space. Bag does hold a lot of stuff, packed a full 3m wet suit, BC, fins and all my other stuff and still had plenty of room. The one thing I dont like is trying to drag it thru the airport or streets with this particular handle I found it wasnt very steady at all, and after about 3 trips one of the wheels did break off and I sent it back and they did fix it for me. I do like the side fin pockets to give it more stability and will try what someone else said in a review putting 2 fins on each side, that should make a nice sturdy frame to pack the rest of the stuff around. Overall not a bad bag, but could use some tweaking and a little stronger material.

Great Bag, poorly made

Bought this bag and used it on 2 trips before the screws fell out of the wheel plate mount. I do like the size of the bag it was perfect for dive trips and you can get a lot of stuff into the bag. I also didn't like the way it bunches everything up at the bottom when you stand the bag up even with the straps on. The bag is more difficult to pull around and I found I was hitting my feet a lot with it unlike bags with a telescoping handle. I did like the bag and its currently sent back to be fixed or replaced. Bag just needs a few tweaks here and there and it might be a great bag.

Great size

I bought this as a gift for my son-in-law so have not used it myself. I have checked it out and I think it's going to be perfect. I am a diver and find that the storage space is excellent. Great value in design and price.

Poor Material Quality

First time on a dive boat the top pocket tore open while the bag was being stowed. There was no unusually rough handling involved. The materials used to form the sides of the pocket are not as strong as would be expected in a dive bag.

I got this bag after my dive instructors

I got this bag after my dive instructors recommended it to me. They've used theirs for over 2 years and they travel a lot. At first I didn't like because it looks a little deformed after unpacking it, but once I got my gear in it, it was standing upright. It rolls nice but even better it has backpack straps so I can roll my other luggage bags with two hand and pack my dive gear on my back. I carried a set of dive fins in one side and snorkel fins in the other side. Once at our resort I packed it up and put it in my other suit case for the flight home. For the money it's great!

Very Poorly Designed Product

I used this bag to carry a 1 full set of tropical gear on 4 trips. By the end of the last trip, the sides of the bag along the wheels had worn through and now there are holes in the bag. Since it doesn't have a frame or support system, it sort of slumps down on itself and falls over and doesn't roll properly. I returned to to Mares and was told it was not covered by warranty because the bag was "overstuffed" and "was subject to excessive wear". So apparently it's meant to carry a set of snorkel gear to and from your bathroom. Stick to making Regs and BCDs, Mares. Your luggage quality is well below your standards.

THE PERFECT DIVING BAG

By Dr B.

Great company to deal with. Shipment was quick and accurate.

Now this backpack is truly cool. Super light and very roomy, the folding system are its key feature. It takes less than a minute to easily fold it, turning it into a small size carrying case. It has two integrated side pockets for storing your fins and adjustable compression straps on the outside. Front pockets and handles for transport. Air Travel Optimized (ATO) design.

Easy foldable backpack with wheels, in less than a minute the 7,811 cubic inches (128 liter) capacity bag can be folded and transformed into a little business bag with an integrated upper front pocket. All Mares wheeled bags include rugged and durable constructed wheels. With a diameter of 3.5" (9 cm) and a with a tire tread 1.2" (3 cm) wide, they can maneuver over streets, through airports and to your dive with no problem. All Mares bag wheels are attached with corrosion resistant stainless-steel screws. This system makes the wheels much more durable than bags using rivets.

When the terrain gets a bit rough, with little effort this large piece of luggage can be transformed into a comfortable backpack. A big pocket positioned under the bag's case contains two big and soft shoulder straps. In a minute, your wheeled bag becomes a backpack. Additionally, the innovative Mares X-Strap System converts the traditional handles, by attaching to a metal snap hook, into the shoulder straps of the bag. Just put the padded shoulder straps over your shoulders and you can maneuver through the busiest airport terminals, sandy beaches, up or down boat ramps and docks or staircases.

Plenty of room in the spiral zippered main compartment with an overall bag dimensions of (L x W x H) 18.5" x 12.5" x 31.9" (47 cm x 32 cm x 81 cm) and a volume of 7,811 cubic inches (128 liters). Enough room for a full set of cold-water equipment or two sets of warm water gear. Bag is constructed from 600 Denier, PVC 4200 Dobby and stainless steel. With additional top padded grab handle and hard bottom, you're ready for your next diving adventure. Bag weights 6.6 lbs. (3 kg) when empty. Bag has a small top ID sleeve for business card and inside the main compartment the lid has a printed gear check list, so you won't forget the essentials.
