THOMAS R : how thick is this vest? Is it 2 mill or 3 milJORDAN G : It feels like about 2mil thickness. The material is not neoprene - it is a kind of fleece material inside with nylon/polyester outside - very similar to the 4th Element Thermocline. To me it feels just slightly heavier and denser than the Thermocline, though, but about the same thickness. Both this and the Thermocline insulate like about a 2.5 mil wetsuit in my experience.JOE S : Lavacore is equivalent to about 2mm if you wear it by itself and more like a 2.5 or 3mm if you layer it under a wetsuit. layering it will channel the water and not allow for as much water exchange so it stays in your suit longer.MICHAEL W : They say it equates to a 3mm in warmth, all I know is that it does a nice job of keeping warm. I usually put it on after the first dive and I can do a 60 minute dive on the second dive and not get chilled. So I really like it. Be aware they run extremely small I wear a xxl wetsuit but in this vest I wear a xxxxl.JAMES S : It would equate to a 3mil in terms of thickness, but it not neoprene. Excellent insulator if you layer. I wear a rash guard shirt, the vest, a full skin, then my wet suit. Works great.RICHARD C : Lavacore is not really a "mil" product. I find their items to be very warm and comfortable, but they are stretchy and kind of fuzzy on the inside, not neoprene. Hope that helps.SEAN E : Probably a little under 2. Best use has been for a comfortable layer under a 3 mil wetsuit. The fleece is pretty nice on the skin. Pretty nice for snorkeling too.
ROBERTO P : The measures are adjusted to the size chart or are small ?. I have understood by comments from other divers who comes smaller the size. I am among 2XL and 3XL, this exceeds my measurements. thank you very muchRICHARD C : My experience with Lavacore is that it goes on pretty snug, but when you are in the water it does stretch out. So I usually buy the smaller size to keep me warm. Hope that helps.
Shopper : If the size chart places you between a Large and Extra Large, would you choose a snug fit or a looser one? Mike L.Duane P : Depending on what you are wanting from it. If you are only going to wear it by itself to swim in, I would go with the snug fit. If you are going to wear for extra warmth under another wetsuit or to water ski in where you just need it for extra warmth, then you may want to go looser. Excellent snug fit

Excellent snug fit. It is a little hard to get on and off, but once it is on, the fit is good. The fleece inside is warm and cozy. I can't wait to use it inside my wetsuit for scuba diving.

Wore my new LavaCore dive vest for some recent deeper dives. Being a vest style, it was fairly easy to put on. It fit just fine under my 5-mil wetsuit without bunching or adding bulkiness. During the dive, I could tell a nice difference in warmth as the vest helped keep my core warmed. I had made 10 dives in the 3 days prior to this, so had a basis for comparison to tell that the vest was doing its job. Also, during the surface interval and on the 45-minute trip back to the dock, the vest kept me warmer. Especially for quick, easy-to-put-on core warmth, this LavaCore vest was a great option.

Terrific warm layer

Fit was a bit tricky. The size page link was rather incorrect. The manufacturer size page is accurate. Best to check that before ordering. The vest fit well, doesn’t add bulk, just a nice warming layer. I dived into temps at depth of 75 and this layer was just the addition I needed.

Nice, but did not work for me

I purchased this to swim laps in cold water. The material felt great and soft on the inside of the vest when I put it on. The problem was the top part of the vest around the neck and arms pits did not fit me well depending on how I moved. When swimming laps, it would come away from the skin and allowed water in which produced drag. For my body type, it did not work as I needed it to. I wished it did as it felt great compared to a normal wetsuit material. The lower half of the vest fit great. I gave it a 3 star due to being to loose around the neck and arm pit area. I returned it and the return process at Leisure Pro was great and quick. I would purchase again from Leisure Pro.

Great product, but check sizing.

I ordered a size "10" due to my weight and measurements and the product came in US size 6. I found it small but not too small. It might have been better as a US 8. Wore it under a 3mm wet suit and was very comfortable in 85F water.

doesn't fit well over my older ecto-mesomorp body--too tight in waist (hard to get on and off) and a little loose in chest but shoulders ok; i'm having a zipper put in on the front to make things easier

Great Water Sports Vest

This is a great vest for any water sport activity. My daughter uses it as added warmth when doing warm water dives. She has also used it as an undergarment with dry/wetsuits when doing cold water dives. Very stylish vest.

Great Vest!

This is a great vest if you are performing any water sports in 70 degree or warmer water. Otherwise it is the perfect device to use as a warmer undergarment with your dry/wetsuit. I used it several times in February and March this year as an undergarment to my Aqualung, 8MM, one piece Semidry suit, to dive in 45F – 46F degree water and my body was nice and warm during the entire time I was underwater. I plan to use it again over my skin suit next month in the Caribbean for added protection in 90+ feet dives. I found the waist elastic cord to get in my way more often than I was getting to require it, so I simply removed it. Other than that, this is a very nice, warm, comfortable vest that not only keeps you comfy, but in style as well. If you are like me that doesn't like to expose unnecessary skin, this is the perfect device to wear.

I would buy this product again and again

keeps you warm!

I wore this vest under a 3 ml Henderson wetsuit (with a hood and gloves) in water of 72 degrees. I felt a little cold at first but then was fine for the rest of the dives. The vest really helped! It is fleece lined and wouldn't fit comfortably under my 5 ml wetsuit since that wetsuit is very tight but worked out very well under my 3 ml! I am really happy with it!

Good insulation

Use under a 3mm wetsuit. Definitely warmer. Neutral buoyancy a plus. I get cold easy and this is much better than getting a thicker wetsuit. Will buy more items from Lavacore. Not cheap, but worth the money.

Fantastic Vest. I love it.

I have recently began playing water volleyball. I needed something to keep me warm on those cool winter days. Another thing is the fit. For a 3X (280 lbs.) It fits beautifully. A half zipper from either armpit would help taking it off.

WOW what a difference

I tried this out under my wetsuit for the first time this weekend and what a difference it made. My chest and back stayed comfortably warm in 55F water for 2 hours. I will use it all through the winter. I plan to try a full suit to go under my regular wetsuit.I love the fact that it is a long vest. I was able to tuck it into my shorts to prevent it from riding up when I pulled up my wetsuit. It does seem like it will take a while to dry out after washing but no big deal.

Great stuff

It feels like at least 3mm added to your wetsuit but it doesn't affect your buoyancy. Really neat stuff. It takes a bit longer to dry than I expected, but still within reasonable time.
