Questions & Answers

Shopper : Is it best to get one size smaller than your shirt size for a better, snugger fit? I tend to get cold when diving in cool water even with my 5mm wet suit. thank you in advance for your time and help.RONALD H : No, one size smaller will be too small. They are already undersize in my opinion. It is a struggle to get out of when wet. I wish I had purchased zippered version.MICHAEL D : I use my normal shirt size. It fits very snug. Have not tried it under a thicker wetsuit. I use it as a light weight, warm weather suit.BOB G : Lavacore sizing is odd. Maybe because the started in Australia? My dive buddies and I have all found that their shirts run small. Do not order a size smaller than your normal shirt size. If you do, the Lavacore will be uncomfortably tight. I strongly recommend you order one, or even two, sizes larger than you normally would. Don't be surprised if the sleeves are too long.MARIO P : It is for the most part a true fit. If anything it's a little snug.GARY P : No, they are sized correctly and have a lot of stretch. Get your regular size. Smaller would make it too snugDALE C : That's a tough one as I remember the sleeves being too tight when the body fit, so I returned the long sleeve for the short, especially to wear under another suit. The material isn't as stretchy as neoprene, so you might think of that so you don't feel restricted wearing it. the associated measurement charts were pretty close, except for the sleeve thing. Hope that helps. Good diving to you.KIRILL L : I would say, get your correct size or even a bigger size, it's very snag fit.JOE S : LavaCore is supposed to be true to size, however in some cases it may fit a little small. Lavacore is the equivalent to a 1.5 - 2mm neoprene and neutrally buoyant. It stays a little warmer when layered beneath a wetsuit. It does dry fairly quick except the lower part of the garments where the water drains. After about half hour, just wring it out and it should dry fairly quick.PAUL P : I wouldn't. I had the same concern but am happy with the snugness. I am 6 feet tall, 200 lbs and wear a large.JEFF H : Not unless u wear regular clothes large. Pretty true to size. FYI, I don't find lava core to be warmer than reg neoprene. Maybe equivalent to 2 or 2.5 mm... Also, dries ok except lowest hanging part of garment stays damp a long time, so you feel like you are aways putting on damp suit. Don't use my lavacore as much as I hoped. I dive in a 3 or 5 mm in warm water a lot (long dives, 3-5x a day) and sometimes I'll throw on a 5 mm ore for xtra warmth, even ith the 5 mm full suit. Hope this helps.SHAWN N : I found the Lavacore clothing to run small. You might want to purchase the shirt in your regular size.
Shopper : My stats are: weight: 67 kg height: 192 cm waist: 31 inches chest size: 93.5 cm May I know what size fits me? Thanks, ZacchKIRILL L : I think you should try size M first (I'm wider and I'm on the edge between M and L). However It might feel too small as it has very weird cut in shoulders. Note that size L has the same feeling :)JEFF H : You vs me (I hope I got conversions right) weight 147.7 lbs vs 144 lbs height 6'3" vs 5' 8" waist 31 vs 32 chest 37 vs 40 I bought the medium. And the medium shorts. Love them both. The shorts will fit you. It sounds like you are tall and thin. I am afraid the medium might be too short in body and sleeves; don't know if the large will be too big in waist and chest. Hope this helps but sorry I can't be of more assistance. So...I love the product. Remember Leisure Pro's policy: You have 60 days from the date of invoice to return the merchandise for full refund on your credit card. So I'd order one and see; if you have a trip coming up order both and return the one that doesn't work! See you underwater!JAMES A : Can you convert that to non metric lolFABIO N : Yes, you'll be fine!
Shopper : would lavacore work for snorking in the great lakes (huron, georgian bay)? huron is on the cold side. not antarctica but not a swimming pool.JOSH S : These appear to be like a slightly insulated swim shirt - Im not sure of the water temp in the great lakes - if you get cold - you may want to consider a skin?? We dive and the guys use these to dive in warm temps 80 plus - otherwise a skin or wetsuit, but we are diving. Hope this helps a little??JOSHUA S : probably not, it provides about the same exposure protection as a 2mm wetsuit.VLADIMIR D : yes it would help. i used it in 75F ~ 68F water. in 70F+ it's even too hot, especially on a sunny day. below 70F it helps, again especially nice if it's sunny so your back is warm. if you only surface snorkel it will keep you warm. if you free dive with it, it will still help. i'm barely wet below it when taken off after use. it's a semi-dry garment so water isn't flowing past your body in and out and to keep you extra warmer than 1mm seems it should. next stop is a 3mm shorty which starts to get more elaborate and makes you way more buoyant, harder to stay down if you free dive w/o weights. note that the lavacore absorbs quite a bit of water, more than neoprene wetsuit material so it will take a while to dry, especially if the nights are cool/cold. i am glad i got it. will buy lavacore pants next as a base layer below my semi-dry wetsuit when scuba diving in sub 60F temps.JAMES A : Im sure it would - i got the long sleeved one because i never wear a wetsuit but needed something for a little warmth- i thJAMES H : I use the Lavacore for swimming in a heated pool in the winter when the temperatures are a bit cooler. The shirt provides minimal heat compared to a wetsuit. Fourth Element makes a dive skin much like the Lavacore that compares to a 3mm neoprene wetsuit. FREDERICK J : No... KIRILL L : It works about the same as 2mm neoprene t-shirt. I think great lakes are too cold for that. People usually use drysuits or 7mm there for scuba divingLARRY B : I think that I would be able to get by with the Lavacore in Lake Huron but I am not very susceptible to the cold. It depends on your level of "cold". It is not a wetsuit by any means but it does provide some great insulation even when wet. I use this as my only undergarment in my drysuit; it has gotten wet (due to a poor neck seal) and I was still warm throughout the day on multiple dives. I would not use it in the winter.PAUL P : I haven't used it in water that's as cold as I Iimagine Huron is...the Lavacore is pretty warm, though, like a 3-5mm wetsuit, I think. With neutral buoyancy. Igues it would depend on the time of year and whether you wore a layer underneath. Sorry I can't be of more helpJAMES B : I don't think so. Its worked great in Mexico and I have used it under my drysuit here in Washington. But not by its self in under 70 degree waterDALE C : I'm guessing that it's about equal to 1/8" neoprene suit. Nice thing about it is it's not bouyant.DAVID B : I wouldn't reccomend it for water colder than the upper 70's as it allows water infiltration. I've used mine in the Atlantic in the low 70's and it was insufficient for a half hour dive.
JOHN D : I am 5' 6" male and weigh about 175. What would be the best size Lavacore long sleeve top to wear under a wet suit for cool California diving? Would that same size hold true for a short sleeve?ROBERT S : The lava core is a tight fit, no doubt. Order it like you would any diveskin or rash guard! I actually bought a size larger than my normal shirt size, and it was nice and snug. But in a good way!DANNY S : It depends on your chest size , a medium should fit but if you are at the upper end of the size chart you may want to go to a med large. When I got mine the size chart said med large but because of my chest size I ordered a large and it fits great. I hope this helps , safe diving.PAUL P : In my experience the Lavacore sizing chart is pretty accurate. I am 6', 215 with just under 20% body fat. Size L fits me perfectly...I was a little concerned when I first put it on that it was too snug, but it's not. And I wouldn't buy from anywhere other than LeisureproKIRILL L : I can only answer regarding the long sleeve lavacore: I'm 5'10" and 190# male. Initially I ordered ML size but had to exchange it to L. Lavacore has very tight cut in the shoulders/armpits area, in any other area ML fit me better than L.LARRY B : It all comes down to your chest and shoulder size. This is were I have found it to be the tightest. Measure those two areas and then use the sizing chart. The lava core run true to their sizing chart. I hope this helps
Shopper : What is the thermal rating of this product? 3,5 or what?MICHAEL D : I would compare it to a 1 mil wetsuit...don't wear it alone unless you're in the tropics.FREDERICK J : Maybe less than 1/2 mm, it is not like a wetsuit.ROBERT S : The shirt is nice and warm. Felt almost equivalent to a 3mm suit. But, i preferd the fit and function of the Lavacore.ROB B : Actually it is comparable to a 3 ml wetsuit or even less btw 2.5 and 3 ml.betterfor snorkeling than divingRICHARD S : It is between a 2and 3mil very comfortable

Sizes are WAY off

Nice stuff - but the sizing is WAY WAY WAY off. I ended up 3 sizes up from the first attempt. I'm larger than most at 5'10' 265 but still - I ended up ordering 3 times. Be sure you measure carefully first - then order at least 2 sizes up - I recommend 3 if you are doing active sports (I am a winter standup paddler). I had to order King1 from another vendor when I discovered on the size-chart hanging off the shirt that 4X wasn't the largest size (it was the largest on Leisure Pro site) - King1 says on the tag it is 290-320lbs and measurements way beyond mine (King2 is for taller/thinner not heavier btw). I tried a 2X - ok - I should have measured - by my measurements I was 3X and I decided on 4X so I could move/maybe wear lingers - I can get a 4X on, but can't really move. I might need 4x if I can drop to 235lbs but I'm not sure - I have large arms. Size King1 - is about right for me. I'm very stocky/very strong, a lot of my weight is in arms/legs and the top is not loose anywhere, even waistline. If you are larger than 265-275 you may not be able to use this product. Leiser Pro was great about returns - but I paid about half the total value in the 2 return shipping costs to get it right. Use a flat rate USPS box it's much cheaper than the one it comes in. After all that - I've used the top one time, out paddling in ambient about 50f and winds of 10 to 15 knots - it's great. Kept my torso warm and cozy I need to fall in a few times to really test it but I think it's just what I need. Erik In Alaska.

Solid product

Nice weight, good fit, though a bit tight getting on over the head. Fits under my 5mm if needed for extra warmth.

Tight but effective

I ordered the 3xl size based on the measurements in the sizing chart. My measurements were between the 2xl and 3xl and I'm glad I went with the larger size. The shirt was very tight when I first put it on but was very comfortable in the water. I was snorkeling for a couple of hours and found that the shirt didn't impede my motion and was very effective as a rash guard and sun block. I was swimming in the BVI and wasn't chilled. You could use this as a wet suit alternative in the Caribbean. Highly recommended.

Kept me warm but it was difficult to get on and off.

Order larger than guidelines say. Runs small. I bit difficult to get over your head. I ordered two pieces instead of a one piece wetsuit. Due to the difficulty in getting on and off I would likely pick something you step into. Was great for warmth in the cold Galapagos Islands! Wore under a shortie provided by cruise.

Lavacore Mens Long Sleeve shirt.

Leisure Pro again provided excellent service and delivered a great product. Just dove with the Lavacore Mens' longsleeve shirt in Cayman Brac. Not one that gets cold this offered me as much protection as a 3 mil shorty. Love that it is fleece lined. I would highly recommend Leisure Pro and the Lavacore line of products. Note that I ordered a 3x size and normally would do 2x and it was snug but was the right fit. 6'1" and 240 lbs.

Sizing seems to run a size small...

I have a Lavacore hooded vest in a Large that fits fine, but when I wanted a long sleeve shirt I ended up having to go up to XL. I'm 6'2", 185 lbs, 42" chest and by the sizing chart a Large should fit (5'10" to 6'1", 210-240 lbs, 42-46" chest). I tried on a Large at my local shop but there was no way I was going to fit in it. They didn't have XL (5'11" to 6'2", 235-265 lbs, 44-48" chest per the chart) in stock so I ordered from Leisure Pro. Out of the package even it seemed small as it had little stretch trying to put it on. But on my first trip I found that once it was wet from a previous dive it has more stretch and went on/off much easier. It's definitely not loose, even wet, but I think XL is the right size for me.

Allergic to Neoprene

I am allergic to Neoprene and this was a very good option for me. It does not seem as thick as Neoprene in the 3mm range, and it is smaller than advertised, but it does it job and doesn't cause me to itch for 3-5 days after I wear it. It does seem to be solidly constructed.

Lavacore Women’s Long-sleeve Shirt

I love this shirt, very warm and neutrally bouyant. I can wear this layered or as a stand-alone. The only con I have found so far is the slow dry time, but that is not a big deal.

Ridiculous under sizing

Wish I could write a review based on use. Since most reviews pointed out we should buy a size bigger than indicated, I did. Unfortunately even TWO sizes larger that I should need based on the charts was too small, I had to return for a size THREE size larger. Now those are out of stock and I have nothing at all to take on my dive trip next week. Lovely.

TIghter than the size chart shows

I was impressed by the Lavacore shirt while on a liveaboard in Socorro, where 2 dive instructors were wearing them. They both highly recommended this high quality product, so of course, I ordered one. The older I get (and after 1500+ ocean dives), the less I want to be cold while diving. The product arrived quickly, and as described. My only negative observation is that despite me being well within/ at the low end of the LG size chart dimensions, the Lavacore Long sleeve LG shirt is quite tight. I can see where I might need assistance getting it off after a dive. I had originally ordered the ML size, and LeisurePro was great about refunding/ exchanging for a LG. I have decided to keep the LG size, and have a tight fit.

Mike P

I used the Lavacore shirt with Lavacore short pants as my base layer under a 2mm/3mm wetsuit while doing Cenote diving in Mexico late August 2017 and both worked great. I was concerned because I was told I'd need a 5mm for diving in a Cenote, but I was very comfortable with my Lavacore shirt/pants and 2mm/3mm wetsuit. I wore the Lavacore pants and shirt over my rash guard pants and shirt. I wear an XL rash guard, but I wanted the Lavacore shirt and pants to fit snug, so I ordered the Lavacore pants and shirt in a Large. It was snug, but I was able to put both on dry and take both off wet. I took the Lavacore shirt off between Cenote dives and was able to get the damp shirt back on wet.

Well made product, fits very small, use the size chart to determine appropriate size. Warmer than a traditional wetsuit, both in and out of the water (on the boat trip back). Flexible enough to be easy to put on.

Lavacore in the Galapagos

The Lavacore top and bottoms were simple wonderful to use. My only advice is that they run small. I had to second day air a larger size before my trip to get it on time. I used a neoprene dry suite on my trip to to Galapagos which fit much closer then my cloth dry suite, so I was happy that the Lavacore fit snug to me body. Chad

Great for a little heat on a cold dive

Purchased the Lavacore short sleeve shirt for diving in Wisconsin all year long. Wanted something for under a 7mm wet suit to keep the heat in by my body. I already have Lavacore socks, which are fantastic. This shirt is great for that purpose. We do ice diving in the winter and this shirt helps a lot. Normal water temperature is 34 - 47 degrees. I ordered an XL and it was true to the fit and tight. I wanted it that way to remove unnecessary water movement. My only issue is when it is wet, removal is difficult unless you have your buddy help start peel it up.

Lavacore Short Sleeve Shirt

This stuff is great for cold water. I wore the short sleeve short for a quarry dive last week. Under a 7 mil wetsuit it was great. Bottom temp at 60 feet was 46 degrees. It does a terrific job. (Just order it a little big. The sizes run small.)
