Edward G : So my head measures 22 inches or 56 cm... which would be better to get.. the small or the medium?JIM S : I contacted IST via email (info at istdivingsystem dot com) and received a prompt response from Kaleb in the Customer Service Dept. He was very helpful. I don't want to give you incorrect information so I would suggest you contact them directly for the answer.JOHN J : Definitely get the medium. The double-layered design of this hood can make for a snug fit, in my experience.NICHOLAS B : Mine measures 55 cm and the medium hood fits fine. Just take the time to get each ear cup properly UNDER the inner hood cut-outs to ensure no leaks. A little petroleum jelly on the ear cups helps with the seal. For additional security, i also use a pair of vented Docs pro-plugs on a leash under the mask. Results in totally dry ears and effortless equalization. I have two grafted artificial eardrums and this setup allows me to dive with no probs.
Shopper : how do i breathe?BEVERLY G : I usually breathe through my regulator and sometimes my nose to help clear the ears. It works well.NICHOLAS B : actually, the hood in the photo is fitted tightly on a dummy head. when you put it on yourself, the chin part is flexible and can be adjusted to automatically fit under the mouth, a snorkle, or regulator mouthpiece - so there are no problems at all in breathing...
B H : How do you get an airtight seal over the ears if I wear the mask over hood as shown? it also shows wearing it under, but will it really fit that way given how big the ears stick out? thanks!CHRISANDA B : The hood has two layers. The layer next the head has holes into which you tuck the ear cups. Then you pull the outer layer up over the ear cups. This system works well, although donning the hood takes a bit of practice. By the end of my spring dive trip I was getting the Pro Ear hood on as quickly as my previous, single layer hood with a standard mask. My only criticism of this hood is that the skirt is a bit too short and sometimes pulls out of my wetsuit. The mask really does help with equalization.ZACK M : you wear the mask over the first hood under the second (the second will fit over the ear pieces. make sure you get your hair out of the way. test (in bathtub)before taking them out, check for proper air movement in valveGARY G : And I don't use ear seals... Why do people use ear seals...?. I dive to 100 feet with no problems...?GARY G : You don't get an airtight seal over for ears... You can put mask or goggles on first but the mask will obviously have to seal to your face just like any mask... Your ears are left open just like when you are normally diving without a hood... You have to equalize the pressure so your ears cannot be "sealed" underwater...The hood works excellent and I would def recommend itNICHOLAS B : i use this mask - hood combo for cave diving in the yucatan. it is a bear to put on correctly but works fine if done right. first, i put on the mask as shown over the inner hood. then i use my fingers around the cutouts to get the earpieces completely free of the rubber. they must fit only over skin. a bit complicated where the little hoses join in. then i push them tight against the skin to ensure close fit. Next, i pull the outer hood over the ears. all of this takes place with the mask over the face. frustrating to fit in the hot sun, so use a good defogger. if the earpieces doe not touch skin, then they will leak and fill with water and impossible to purge with the outer hood in place underwater. you will note two small purge holes in the center of both hoods. handy if the hood fills with air. overall, a cumbersome system, but solid once it is all in place. good luck

The Pro Ear 2000 mask itself comes with ear seals which cannot be used with other masks.JUSTIN M : No. There are tubes running from the mask to the ear seals to allow clearing of the ears.GARY G : I didn't even get an ear seal... It was just a hole cut unit for your ear

Lacking in quality

Bad quality, had to improvise and modify an old hoodie to wear underneath as the inner one tore out. Front is mot well contoured and bit too long, had to trim a piece from the top of the face opening. Also made additional holes in the top to vent the trapped air, with the wider openings due to the ear pieces the exhaled air routes almost 100% into the hood.

Good equipment go one size up

Ordered the size that matched my head, it was too right, tore the inside sleeve first day and it was choking me on dives. Go a size up.

This hood has two layered construction; an inner layer of 3mm neoprene for the placement of the balancing ear cups with an outer thinner layer of 2mm neoprene which adds warmth and a clean appearance.
