Questions & Answers

Shopper : does this unit work through ice?Raymond C : I never tried it but in should, you would need to make a dam out of snow, fill with water and then hold the depth finder in the puddle. I had planned on doing this to map a pond but it was spring feed and never froze over.
Shopper : What is depth rating of the device (not the depth it measures, but the depth one can take it down to)?Raymond C : Interesting because the paperwork with mine said it's not waterproof enough for diving. I use it on the sailboat for checking depthJEFFERY W : The following is from the manufacturer's manual which is available online: USER’S GUIDE H22PX – HawkEye® Handheld Sonar System USING FOR DIVING The H22PX is waterproof to 200 ft (61 m), allowing you to use it as a range finder or target finder for snorkeling or diving. Keep in mind that the sonar signals must be directed at a solid surface that is within 200 ft (61 m) to display depth readings. • You must be certain to aim the Device at an object or the bottom within this range. • ALWAYS be certain to attach the Wrist/Safety Strap to your person, as the device will float to the surface if released.
Ingrid K : Is there another attachable device to attach to diver/ person so to pick up the object if searching location? ThanksROBERT H : Nope - simply sends out sonar waves and measures distance by time it takes for sound to reflect back. Large objects (like people or schools of fish) will reflect the sonar back (if the depth finder unit is pointed directly at their location) showing they are closer than the bottom.YAN G : No, not for this unit.
Shopper : is the unit on your website model hawkeye h22fx?YAN G : Yes, this one is H22FX.

Good for checking depth

This is for use on a boat, not waterproof enough for a dive.

This is a boat tool, not a dive light!

"Depth Range 2.5' to 200' (0.8 to 61 meters" That means it will read to 200', the unit is only waterproof to 3' so this is for use on the boat, not a handheld side scan sonar for limited viz diving. It's easy to use however if you want water temps let the unit hang over the side in the water for the temp to settle or you'll just get the housing temp like your dive computer gives you when you first get in. The light is plenty bright for deck use. I'll be using this to map new dive sites and as the depth finder and deck light on my sailboat Warranty repairs are fast, my unit had an issue. Norcross sent me a UPS label and I had it back in 10 days.
