Questions & Answers

CHRISTOPHER B : Could I use a combo octo inflator with this bcd? Does Hollis make one?Mario C : Thank you Joe, No better answer that i could do.JOE S : Hollis does not make a Octo/Inflator combo. Technically, you could put one on this unit from atomic or Zeagle. However, if you are using it as a side mount or Backplate and doubles, then you would not want to do it. The PI corrugated hose comes from the bottom port on the bladder instead of over the shoulder, so not only would it be in the way, it would be difficult to use. If you are trying to use it for single back mounted tank, then moving the hose to the over the should position might be the way to go. In this case the Octo/Inflator would be appropriate. It would definitely not be ideal to put one on it as it stands though.
ANDREW G : What's the difference in the sizing? Is it just the strap length? They always have way to much excess that has to be trimmed off.Wayne K : It is ok to trim the excess. I just completed fitting my new SMS 75 and had to trim a lot. Keep in mind that customization of your rig is a major benefit sidemount configuration. Hope this helps.DMITRY A : How would a person buying just one of these be able to answer your question? Call them
Luis D : hello, what do i need to buy to use this BC in backmount?Edward M : It already includes two camstraps for side mounted tanks that you can also use to mount one tank on the rear.DARWIN E : Nothing. It comes with 2 cam bands to secure a tank back mount.CHARLES M : If using an aluminum tank, you might need some cheap weight pockets. If you're diving steel you probably don't need anything extra. Depends on your tanks and whether you are diving fresh or salt.Steve A : If you're diving single back-mount you don't need to buy anything...it comes with two cam bands to hold the tank to the back fd the BCEdward H : If you want to use it for a single tank, all you really need is a pair of tank bands, as you would see on a conventional BCD. You could add integrated weight system pockets on the waist band if you wish, or accessory trim pockets on the tank bands, but a simple weight belt would serve your buoyancy needs. Your choice.DMITRY A : Nothing
Shopper : What adapter is needed for the sms75 to use with a back mount single 80AL?DMITRY A : NoneEdward H : Some people use an STA (single tank adapter) to mate with an aluminum 80 and that works fine, since most of them have holes centred on !! inches. But I found that all I had to do was thread tank cam bands through the slots on the SMS75 and it worked fine. You'll have to ease the velcro on the back pad off a bit to make it easier to pass the bands through, but that's simple enough,Edward H : It's possible to mate an STA (single tank adapter) to the SMS75, but I found all it took was to thread a couple of tank bands through the slots in the sidemount. You'll have to pull the pad off the velcro strips a bit to make it easier to pass the bands through, but it works fine.DMITRY A : No adapter needed. Comes with everything to need for rear cylinder.Mauricio S : No adapter is needed. The 2 straps for the cylinders can be mounted in the back of the harness and hold it very well.
ALOYSIUS D : how is this bcd compared to the SMS 50 ? I'm using the SMS 50 now and i am contemplating an upgrade to this as i feel there isn't enough leave on the 50.STANLEY C : SMS 75 is suitable for both alu and stainless steel cylinders, as you know, sms 50's lift is too small. And what's more, sms 75 can be used comfortably as a single tank backmount which is important for some environment not good for sidemount entry & exit water.DARWIN E : Having never used the SMS 50, I can tell you I absolutely love the SMS 75. I am using it as a back mount for my Faber LP 85 with an aluminum 30 pony side mounted. You cannot beat the minimal design with 40 lbs of lift. I added XS scuba weight pockets to the belt.JOE S : The SMS 75 is better for more applications. The SMS50 is mainly for travel with a max load of two AL80 tanks. With 40 lbs of lift, the 75 will accommodate a heavier load and allow you to add a backplate and double tanks if you wish. It will also allow for a single tank which the SMS50 does not.Edward H : Delighted with the SMS75. Much better bungee system than the 50, plus the ability to add Hollis weight plate on the back. More lift capacity, quick release buckles on the shoulder straps, and the inflator is nicely placed. I added rubber D-rings on the waist belt to give me an attachment point that lowers partially consumed tanks. Buy it.

Best dive-anything rig I could find!

I wanted to have a rig that was suitable for Tec certification classes and could do dual sidemount cylinders vs. just twin back mounted ones. Plenty of those configurations around you say! But I also wanted it to be an all around rig that would be suitable for the majority of our diving, which is Rec back mount. Now the selection out there gets smaller! I ordered the Zeagle Tech, but did not like their dumpable weight system or the gigantic 65lb bladder that I will never use. It also seemed to me like just a regular BC modified, they just added a big bladder and some D rings to it and some grommet holes in the back. I next ordered the SMS75. Now that I dove it, I can say I love it! Perfect trim in the water and low profile with a bladder just the right size. Plenty of attachment points and plenty of room to add pockets and or dumpable weight pockets to the waist belt if you so desire. I've only dove it single cylinder, back mount so far. The crotch strap is wide and very comfortable and keeps the rig from sliding up and down my torso. I ordered a Lg/XL. I'm 6'2", 42" chest 180lbs. I'm pretty thin in the midsection and It fits me well with plenty of waist strap left for you barrel shaped guys. The rig is ready to dive out of the box and after you dive it, there is an amazing amount of adjustment that can be made for a fit that feels like custom! Changing it from a rear mount to a sidemount configuration takes maybe 2 minutes. The cordura is a rugged high quality and so is the sidemount rigging kit it comes with. Just bought one for my wife today!

Quick and fast shipping item came as described very happy with the service. BCD is great I love it - I can dive both single tank back mount and sidemount with this BCD so it is meeting all my needs while I’m cutting down on gear o have to carry with me on vacation!

The Hollis Side-Mount SMS75 is an evolution from years of side-mount development, which started with the SMS100. The Hollis Side-Mount System is a product that has been copied, modified and a benchmark for technical side-mount for years. Even more popular has been the lightweight SMS50 line. These two have taken side-mount mainstream and the building blocks this new harness. While it caters more to hardcore cave divers, SMS75 was created to handle all environments. Proper trim is key in side-mount diving and the wing is designed with a trapezoid shape to promote horizontal diving with increased lift towards the hips where it's needed most, and without modification. The SMS75 will also support rear mounted tanks with cam slots for single tank and grommets at 11" (27.9cm) for banded doubles and reversible inflator positions.

The SMS75 Side-Mount System Harness comes equipped with stainless-steel D-rings on the shoulder straps with 4-pre-bent for accessory attachment. The harness has adjustable shoulder and sternum straps equipped with squeeze-style side-release buckles for easy donning and doffing. The Hollis SMS75 Harness has a stainless-steel latch-style waist buckle with adjustable crotch strap. The crotch strap is equipped with an additional stainless-steel D-rings for attachment of accessory or scooter. All hardware is manufactured from 316-marine-grade stainless-steel.

The Hollis SMS75 Side-Mount System with inflator mechanism(s) and overpressure-relief/dump valve, is a 360° elastic bungee system (removable) wing that provides 35 lbs. (15.88 kg) of lift capacity. Bladder has a centrally located inflator mechanism elbow(s) to avoid tank valve/regulator interference, lower left pull dump/overpressure relief valve and the inflator system is made from durable impact resistant plastic with a corrugated rubber hose. The internal components and inlet quick-disconnect nipple are made from chrome plated brass. The SMS75 Side-Mount System is equipped with upper and lower cam band slots for single cylinder mounting.

This bulletproof constructed wing is manufactured using 1000-Denier Cordura nylon with a polyurethane lamination outer shell & 15mm urethane internal bladder. The SMS75 Side-Mount System is streamlined designed for reduced drag and passing through confined spaces. The SMS75 Side-Mount System comes with a low pressure 3/8" threaded quick-disconnect hose, owner's manual, and rigging kit that Includes: Tank bungees, stainless-steel cam bands, stainless-steel bolt snaps and nylon line.
