Questions & Answers

ERIC K : Another size question: I am 5'11, 195 lbs, 36" waist, 45" chest, pretty lean. Was wearing a medium Cressi BCD at the last resort where we dove. Would a MED or a LRG HD200 fit me better? I seem to be between the two. Thanks.JOE S : You would fit best in a large. Please double check the sizing chart on the hollis website for confirmation before making your final decision.
Francis L : Can a large tank 120c²ft wil fit this bcd?RICHARD S : I cannot confirm, but I am quite confident that it canJOE S : Yes. The diameter of a 120cf tank is the same as an Aluminum 80 or a steel 100. There is also plenty of lift to support a 120, assuming the diver is properly weighted.
Lachlan M : Just wondering if this BCD can be set us as sidemount?JOE S : It has D-rings to connect a tank to, but the configuration and position will not be proper and trim will be tricky.Lon Ling T : No it can’t.robert s : they sell one for side mount.i just use this regular.good bcdCOLLEEN B : It is not created for that purpose however, I think with a little imagination. it can be setup to do so.
Shopper : I am 6'2, 185 lbs, athletic build, 42" chest and 33" waist, what size do you recommend?HARRY G : I'm 5'8 200lbs 46'' chest 32'' waist and ordered a large fits comfortablyEdward M : Id refer to the chart as hollis is pretty accurate. That said I'd guess large.Amalio Jose B : I should wear a size L.
Shopper : I'm 6'2", 230lbs, 46in chest and 34in waist. Usually dive anywhere from a 3mm to a 7mm wetsuit. Everything looks to fit on the the large, except for weight. Is this going to be a big deal, or should I go with xl? Anybody of similar size?BRYAN M : I would go with the XL. The belt can be adjusted to fit your waist, even though its a little long than the one in a large. If it's too long, you can shorten it. In a 7mm suit, a large will fit tighter and may be uncomfortable. I am 5'7, 230lbs with a 54" chest and 40" waist. The chest strap is almost maxed out, the belt has room to spare. In a 3mm suit, you might need to make a couple of adjustments, but it should fit fine.KRISTINE G : Should be fine but I found the neck yoke really small so I returned this lovely bcd.JAMES O : Hi I think you should be Ok with a Large. I’m 5’9 34 waist 44 Chest 190lbs. Large is adjusted to smallest setting. Nice BCD with plenty of lift. Trim weights needed on surface. Also be aware with BCD the inflator/dump connection sits on top of left shoulder below the bladder of the wing. So to dump or release air, divers body needs to vertical not trim position. Sometimes awkward!

Live this Hollis HD-200, but.....

Overall, I really enjoy this BCD. It's tech enough to be streamlined but rec enough to have easily adjustable shoulder, waist and crotch straps. The 2-inch webbing appears to be high quality and the build of the BC also appears to be heavy duty with good quality cordura. I really enjoyed diving my Halcyon backpack and wing, but always found it a bit difficult to put on, a hassle to fit into tank stands on boats because of the two tank bands it used, and hard to take off in a drysuit. I always struggled to find acceptable ways to attach the things I wanted to take on dives with the Halcyon. This Hollis has pockets though I find them a bit difficult to get the zipper open. This is mostly an issue with personal flexibility in my shoulders with a drysuit on. I can snug this BC up so it feels solid and a part of me. This was a major issue with my Apex Black Ice. One thing here with the Hollis that is a bummer, at least for me. The grommets in the side of the pockets are not spaced to accept any dive tool/knife I could find anywhere. I just do not understand the thinking on that detail. For that design fail, I am giving it a four star review

No air release problem here!

I read the lengthy review below and after owning an HD 100 for over 10 years with 100's of dives all over North America and the Caribbean I have not experienced the issue raised in the 4 star review The BCD trims well and releases air as needed when ascending. A slight roll to the left gets the shoulder valve in the proper place to release all the air when ascending. No need to be slightly overweight. A few dives with this amazing BCD and you'LL have it totally dialed in. I have owned a Zeagle Ranger and an Oceanic and a Scuba Pro comparable BCD and the Hollis is ever so slightly better. Super rugged plenty of hang rings, nice size pockets and ultra durable construction. After 10 years of use this rig is still going strong

Hollis HD200 BCD

Absolutely LOVE this BCD! I'm an instructor who is looking into getting into some more technical diving, so this is a perfect fit for me. Back inflation is always a plus, but this model integrates large pockets at the sides and a more traditional looking style so that my students can easily follow along above and in the water. It has TONS of D-rings so I can easily fit it for sidemount as well. It's an incredible hybrid BCD that gives you the best of both worlds if you want to get into technical diving and stay in the early stages, but also teach. As far as Leisurepro itself, incredible service and prompt delivery. This item was not available in store and I was quickly leaving the country, so they had it shipped fast-track and it was there in 2 days! Everyone that I spoke with was pleasant and helpful in assisting me choose which model I wanted. Great service that I will be using again!

Awesome BCD - Runs Big?

I couldn't recommend this BCD enough. Before I get more into the review, you should know that it runs pretty big. Their size chart pegs me as an XL - I couldn't find a shop near me that had this BCD in stock so I just took a guess. I've managed to have a few things tailored so it works a bit better. I'm 6'4" and 200 pounds with a 42" chest and 34" waist. Soooo the cumberbund and belt are waaay too big to start, but you can adjust/have them tailored. If I bought it over again though, I'd go size Large so definitely take that into consideration. For actual function, I've put about 200 dives on it in the last 5 months and it's worked perfectly. The Tech/Rec designing is great for serious rec divers that don't actually need a tech rig. For instance, D-ring placement and general material strength is great. The integrated weight pockets with clips are awesome - I dive in the insane currents of Komodo and tons of people lose their normal clip in weight pockets. I don't use a lot of air in my BCD while diving generally speaking, but having a large bladder has definitely helped me out in a downcurrent. Pockets and knife grommets are great as well. Overall, I'd buy this again in a heartbeat.

Love hollis products

Love this heavy duty bcd. A work horse with just the right fit. Plenty of d rings .... love it. Learn how to deflate it as others have mentioned... the horse shoe design can trap air on or side. Once you are aware of the design you'll understand how to use it. On of my favorite bcds.

Great BCD, but some design issues!

The Hollis HD200 a great looking, heavy duty black & red military grade Cordura, single tank wing BCD. It's has the best functional pockets found on any proper wing. These are big enough to carry a DSMB, small pocket reel, torch (flashlight) with knife mounts on both pockets. The weight belt style waste strap buckle, is so much nicer than the common abs plastic 'squeeze pull' clips. The only problem with this bcd is the placement of the upper dump/release valves being located on the shoulders of the jacket away from the bladder section of the wing. (Have a look at photos of the HD200) The inflator hose / dump is on left shoulder, & emergency pull dump valve is on the right shoulder strap. Both are on top of the jacket which makes them lower than the wing when diver is in trimmed horizontal position. In this position so air cannot be properly released if there is not a lot of air in the bcd. It's not a problem on descent at all. It also maybe not too noticeable if diver is overweighted & bcd is quite full to compensate. But that's definitely not the case at all if diver is properly optimally weighted! This is especially be towards the end of dive as tank gets lighter or when slow assent is started on turnaround and not much air is in the bcd, then to maintain buoyancy, a little air needs to dumped. If diver is in trim position, oppps air won't be dumped, until diver is upright. I consistently found it a problem in trim and pulling the inflator hose, using deflate button, even when raising it up above my head. or pulling the right shoulder no air was released. It only works if diver raises up to be almost vertical position, so valve is higher than air in the wing! The other option is head down and try to dump from bottom valve, ... but that's only on left side, and being 'horse shoe' wing won't release air from right side! It could lead to a real problem, and I witnessed a diver with less experience with an HD200 end up on the surface from 20 meters, after not being able to release some air, started panicking and ended in an uncontrolled assent before he knew what happened. So bottom line it's best to be a little overweighted with this BCD, and carrying more air or get used to getting out of trim momentarily, or rolling over upside down, then air can be dumped properly. Other than that it is an amazing bcd for that perfect hover. On the surface, yes it does pitch a diver face forward a bit, but using 4kgs trim weight and leaning back when inflated and it's easy to be comfortable. For me I've switched and am happier with an Aeris (Oceanic) Atmos, Hybrid. Not as cool looking, but more effective diving, and no issues releasing air in trim.

Amazing BCD with tons of features!

Pure performance from this bcd. It has every feature perfectly placed for my preference. I have used it both boat and shore and it is extremely durable and still looks as great as the day I bought it.

BEST BCD I've ever owned

I've had numerous Scuba Pro and a Zeagle Ranger, but my Hollis is my fav yet. VERY good BCD, great bouyance, lots of pockets, "everything" is where it should be. This will be last BCD i buy. Not an easy "travel" BCD, BUT worth the extra space/weight.

Best recreational BC on the market

I bought the HD100 before the new model came out. I dove it a few times and loved it but made some minor adjustments by adding a crotch strap and a metal waist buckle (looks like those are the only difference between the 100 and the new 200). It was a dream to dive. Lots of pocket space that is well out of the way. Quality D-rings that make storing gear and clipping off hoses easy and plenty of space for clipping on a small stage/deco bottle. The wing throws you into trim very nicely and it is still easy to sit upright at the surface unlike many other back inflate style BC's. I have not had a single problem and think very highly of this BC. I started with it as an open water diver and took it through my dive master, cavern, and technical training. It is very flexible and allows you to grow into it.
