Questions & Answers

Shopper : will this fit aqua lung bcds?THOMAS S : This will fit any standard size BCD inflator hoseDORIS B : I would think it would fit any BCD because it attaches to regulator. Enter an answer to this question.Harry Chapman C : I believe this will work on any BC. You simply replace the Low Pressure Hose that connects from your first stage to your inflator with this device. A standard low pressure quick release identical to the one on your low pressure hose then attaches to your inflator. So the only part that is being removed/replaced in your gear is the low pressure hose to the BC inflator, nothing on the BC is modified or replaced when using the Genesis Sidekick.STEPHEN W : Should fit any standard inflator quick connect. It fits all of minef with no special modifications (ScubaPro, Old US DIvers, and Parkway)
Shopper : Can I attach it to the first stage and using it the old fashion way? I don't like the idea of attaching it to the BC.VINCENT S : Yes and no. It comes with a small pig tail hose with the male end of a quick connect. To use it like a standard octo you would have to have to use a hose with a female quick connect end (like for a bc or drysuit). This is also heavier than most octos and cost more.CHARLES P : Yes, you can. but I'd not recommend this Octo. The purge button disintegrated within a year and I've spoken with several other people that commented on the same thing.CARLOS N : Yes is attach to the first stage then to bc so you can inflated itKRIS W : Yes, it is attached to the 1st stage of your regulator like a normal regulator. The only part that connects to the BC is the short by-pass hose that hooks to your BC inflator valve like a standard BC hose. It just keeps everything nice and tight and out of the way. It is a great little octopus regulator.JUNE H : I would not recommend using it as a regular octopus. It has a shorter hose and is meant be be used as a combo octopus/inflator. I would recommend another Genesis octopus instead: http://www.leisurepro.com/p-gnsosko/genesis-sko-octopus-regulator?=,, ANDREA B : Well I guess it would work, but it has an lp quick release to attach to your bc inflator. If you are going to connect to a separate octo hose, just buy an octopus and not this unit.LARRY A : Yes you can, but is made to come over your left shoulder and comes with a shorter hose than a normal octopus. Really is made to attach to a BC.ZENAIDA Q : I never tried using it just as a regular octopus but i guess you could . Now i would not use it as my primary sir source.ZENAIDA Q : I never tried using it just as a regular octopus but i guess you could . Now i would not use it as my primary sir source.
VAIRA S : Is this compatible with Mares Prestiege BCD?MIYUKI S : This is compatible with the Mares Prestige BCD.STEVEN W : Yes, and it works great!!RICHARD W : This is compatible with any "standard" inflator hose. As long as it is not an inflator for a combo inflator/alternate air source, it should work. Most of the combos are larger diameter. Hope this helps.
gregg d : Is that yellow cover replaceable. They are prone to cracking into pieces.?SEAN P : That is exactltly what happened to mine after the 2nd use. Sent it back, leisure pro replaced entire unit, havent' had a prob since with new one.JOHN M : I bought mine a few yers back and have not had any problems, This is a great octopus if you have only a few ports on your first stage.. needless to say i don't breath out of it that often.. Leasure pro stands behind what they sell...PAUL B : yes, i had one crack on me.instead of sending it in,just get ahold of custemer service and they should send you one. i think the guarantee is one year.RICHARD W : Yes, they are replaceable. I bought a couple extras for about $10, I think, from a local dive shop. They had to order them for me though.MICHAEL S : I don't know if it replaceable or not, but they can disintegrate. I have 4 of these and one literally disintegrated on dive #2. No abuse, easy dive, just disintegrated. I sent it back to Leisure Pro and it was promptly replaced (not repaired) at no cost to me. In general I still use this product and like it. There is obviously a manufacturing/quality control issue with some of these units.KRIS W : I have had mine for nearly 2 years with no problems. In fact I just purchased a 2nd one for my daughter to use. It is slim, out of the way and performs well. Since the cover is a soft silicone part, I don't really see any reason it would crack.SHARON G : The yellow cover cracked almost immediately. I returned it with no problem and replaced with something different.RANDY M : After many dives we have had no problems or issues of any kind. There are four of us that dive together that use the sidekick and we all love it. I would highly recommend it. Thank you.
Shopper : HI, Will this octopus work well with an oceanic excursion BCD?? Cheers IvanATIF Z : Should not be a problem.ALISA M : i've used mine with multiple bc's, it's a standard low pressure inflator hose connector- unless your bc has some non standard unusual connector, it should be fine i've had mine for 4 yrs and love it, no problems; one less thing dragging on the reef -mark key largo flDANIEL S : It works on my Oceanic probe BCD, So I wouls say "yes".ROSS C : I have had the sidekick since 2009. I have it on a Mares. I don't see why it shouldn't work for on an oceanic setup. It has worked very well for me. I have had to use it once when my Mares failed.DAN H : I dive with an Oceanic BCD and it works fine. These should work with any BCD and just take the place of the power inflater hose from the Octopus.REED T : It should. Oceanic bc's made by Hollis. It fits my Hollis. Even if the quick release hose fitting is different you can change that fitting yourself or have a dive shop do it at a reasonable price. Reed

Sidekick Octo fell apart

Within 4 dives the yellow cover split. In subsequent dives its fallen apart, like it's dry rotted. I've met several other divers with the same experience. The unit still seems to work fine, there's just a big hole where the yellow cover used to be. it's a little difficult to breathe through and not very comfortable due to it's positioning on the BC. But I suppose if you're using it, it's because you're in an emergency situation.

One Less Hose to Manage

Although I've never had to use this octo in an out-of-air situation, it is very convenient. I always know where the octo is, and I have one less hose to manage. It breathes very nicely. The only downside is that it puts another valve in close proximity to the power inflator, but that has been an easy adjustment.

It shattered!

Used this for my open water class, purchased here new. Second pool dive, third instance I pressed the purge button and the soft plastic cover/button literally shattered! How does a soft plastic shatter??? Scary stuff, and my last Genesis product! Instead I bought all Atomic regulators. More money, but hey, you only have one life! Leisure pro offered me a new cover but Im not goIng for it. If it fails In a pool....

This is the way to go

Every octopus very seldom gets used, its main function is back up it does not have to be high performance, this hooks directly to the BC and stays out of the way and eliminats an extra hose.. Jack Murphy Florida Keys

good for the money

i put it on my wife's rig. it breathes good but, does have a freeflow issue at or near the surface. it needs a shorter inflator hose for women's bc. i recommend spending the extra $40-$50 and get one that permanately mounts to the flex hose. if you don't use it much, it's great. the "one less hose" is a great safety feature for us spearfishing on the oil and gas platforms in the gulf.

A GREAT way to streamline

I wanted to streamline myself a little bit and having a safe second inflator can't be beat. That being said, because this is "in-line" and not a true replacement hoes...it IS a little bulkier than some of the more expensive models out there. If you're diving on a very regular basis (50 or more times a year) I might consider spending the extra money on a more compact unit. Otherwise, it's a good product. Breathes well all around...upside down, at 130 feet, etc.

My third BC inflation hose Octopus

Have dove almost fifty dives with this product and so far it doesn't leak. My Zeagle Octoplus leaked after only a few dives and has never stopped.

one less hose

By THOMAS S.

Works fine. One less hose. and very compact. shouldn't have to use it

When you're taught how to dive you are given practice in buoyancy control more than any other skill. Once you start to dive every time you go underwater, fin the reef, or surface you use buoyancy control. All this time your octopus second stage regulator hangs un-used and out of mind. When a real life out-of-air situation occurs, the stress and anxiety mounts, and you find yourself fumbling for a piece of equipment you never use the octopus! Combining your inflator device (that you use on every dive) with your octopus regulator assures your ability to react properly when an out-of-air emergency occurs. Be a safe diver with the Sidekick Octopus. The Genesis Sidekick octopus is an exceptional second source of air, and provides you with a more minimalistic dive. This unique octopus easily attaches to your BC and eliminates the need of a separate LP hose for the octopus regulator, which gives you more room to enjoy your dive.

Constructed of lightweight, durable materials, the compact Sidekick provides you with the breathing performance of a primary regulator. This octopus maintains the BC controls and alternate air source in one location making the Sidekick easy to find when you need it. The mouthpiece location makes it easy to offer the octopus with either hand. For easy identification, this octopus has bright, highly visible yellow soft purge cover. The purge cover not only makes it easy to identify in an emergency out-of-air situation, it also makes clearing the regulator quick and easy. The Sidekick is made from non-corrosive ABS plastic with a silicone mouthpiece, diaphragm and exhaust valve. The valve mechanism is a dependable downstream demand valve with a resilient silicone poppet seat and stainless-steel demand lever. Includes a 3/8" threaded low-pressure hose.
