Excellent product. Wanted a heavier plate to avoid using added lead, worked out perfectly. Add a steel 100 and perfecto!

It's a plate of steel. Exactly what I ordered.

It's literally a steel plate, you can get the same plate from other manufacturers for less.

I took this back plate on a dive trip to the Caribbean where I dove 8 times and made sure to rinse it on the boat and soaked it back in the room. Despite this, it still showed rust spots at some of the holes. Overall, it functions great for the intended purpose, but the rusting on the first trip is a bit unsettling.

Switching to the backplate and wing style of diving made a huge difference in my diving. Steel plate distributed weight evenly and is perfect for diving in colder water. The whole backplate system makes it feel like it's part of your body, feels very streamlined unlike traditional bc's. Just amazing!

Great nicely made back plate but does not work with the Transpac. All around a very strong product.

The Backplate works good witch the other Dive Rite stuff. But the holes dont match with other brands, for example: u cant use a backpad manufactored by OMS, DIRZone or Halcyon. Next time i would buy an OMS-Backplate

I have been doing business with LeisurePro for over 10 years. I have always had excellent service. This Dive Rite equipment was the best price.

I actually bought the Halcyon SS backplate and Explorer (30lb wing), but it is very similar to the Dive-rite equipment. However, I'm writing this review for the SS Backplate and wing combo. I had a Mares tech BCD that inflated all around and I didn't think it was very streamlined while diving. The backplate is just the opposite. I bought the wing and it cuts through the water like nobody's business. I dropped from 12 lbs (standard BCD) to just the SS plate (5 lbs) and it is soooo much better. The plate is actually comfortable. I don't feel anything under the water. It take a few tries to get the harness adusted (if you have the continuous web harness), but once you've got it adjusted its always ready to go. I can't say enough about the backplate and wing combo. If you're even thinking about the switch, just go for it and you won't regret it. It's just a better set-up all around.

Greg Flanagan first invented the metal back-plate using aluminum in 1979 for North Florida cave divers. He realized that a back-mountedbuoyancysystem gives a diver natural balance in the water, due to the diver's center of gravity (tanks) being surrounded by the center of buoyancy (BC wings). Plus, the diver gains a clean chest area with room for gear attachment points on the harness. Bill Hogarth Main went on to popularize the back-plate and harness and dive purists who follow the DIR philosophy have come to embrace what is known today as the Hogarthian Rig.
Dive Rite began manufacturing back-plates for the public in 1984 and pioneered 11" (27.9cm) on-center bolt spacing creating an industry standard that is still followed today. Northeastern wreck divers adapted the concept and began using a stainless-steel back-plate; at 5.5 lbs (2.5kg) in weight, it is ideal to counterbalance buoyancy characteristics of thick dry suit exposure protection. The 11" (27.9cm) on-center holes accommodate standard double tank bolt kits.
Holes along the perimeter of the plate allow for mounting lights, pony bottles, lift bags and other accessories. 1" and 2" (2.5cm and 5.1cm) slots permit diver's choice of crotch straps. Two 3/8" (9.5mm) slots along the bottom are designed to fit screws for attaching lift bag sleeves, side mount butt plates or other accessories. 2" (5.1cm) slots along the center allow single tank divers to use cam straps without a single tank adaptor. All edges are de-burred to eliminate sharp edges and prevent abrasion to harness webbing. Back-plate is manufactured from grade 304-stainless-steel and is passivated, to prevent oxidation. The back-plate measures (H x W) 15.5 x 10.5" (39 x 27cm) and is proudly made in the U.S.A.
