Small enough for rock fish hunting and powerful enough for the big lingcod. Easy to maintain, you can set the pressure to however much power you want. The gun came was too hard for me to load the spear so I emptied out the pressure and pumped it 18-20 times to get enough power for getting a good shot off and I have no problem reloading underwater. Soak and rinse out your gun and it will last a lot longer. It never leaked air or oil for my use.

This gun is for someone who rarely goes spearfishing. I bought it for tight spaces at my local jetty and decided to experiment with it as a back-up. Hated how soft it shot and eventually it wouldn't take air. Needless to say, Leisure Pro wouldn't take back. I used about 10x, but mostly just kept in case my band on regular broke. Piece of crappo!

Nice speargun, a little underpowered but I was able to pump it up 400 times instead of 250. Got alot better penetration on the fish. Was negatively bouyant, some type bouyancy control would be nice (other than sticking styrofoam to it) A little hard to load at 400 pumps. Ate alot of fresh ceviche because of this thing.

I purchased the SL Star 40 and 55 , I was amazed at the power of these spearguns and the quality of the gun. I am 63 yrs old and Not as strong as I used to be and the SL 55 would be difficult for me to load in the water , the SL 40 is better suited for me to load while snorkeling . This is my first purchase of a speargun of this type and would recommend it to anyone ! I give it 5 stars for power, quality and performance .

I got this gun due to its low price. I updated it increasing 4 outlet holes in 2 times in diameter and made angled grooves like Mares Cyrano EVO HF 90 has it. In addition I altered existing shaft to one barb 8mm shaft with spring slider to minimize cross section area of shaft assembly. These measures significantly (by 20-30%) increase shaft's kinetic energy during touching the target. Increased dynamic efficiency was provided by comparable underwater shooting in gel block before and after modification.

Fantastic little gun, especially for the price! I use it for shooting Walleye and Bass along with various other species in low visibility environments. Powerful and accurate, it gets the job done. A litlle hard to load at times, but still easier and faster than a band gun.

My first one (the Star 40) lasted a good 15 years (but not with constant use), eventually it started leaking while unloaded. I had never removed the plug to pressurize it...and that thing was NOT coming out. So I'm giving it only 4 stars due to the...let's be honest...stupid... design of the plug at the back. That thing has a 'coin slot' and is made of soft plastic...which immediately strips if there is even the slightest excessive torque required to remove it. Another ding is that when I did finally get the plug out (in many tiny pieces) and tried to pump it up with the supplied pump...the pump handle was pushed back all the way by the air pressure and then leaked all the pressure out. I did connect it to my dive compressor (not running...just with pressurized hoses) and gave it a brief hiss of pressure, which did bring it back to a nice pressure, but it was still leaking when unloaded. So...it has been an excellent gun all these years, I agree with what others have written about power and accuracy, the old one owed me nothing. I bought an exact replacement and definitely recommend it.

I have used this gun for years shooting lingcod and rockfish in the ocean. To make the loading easy under water i took off the spearhead and put on a five prong that i bought on this site. This combo is deadly and kills the big lings dead, no turning or twisting ..lings are DEAD!! Lings to 20lbs have all died with ease!!! It also makes it easy to hit the smaller rockfish. Good for about three feet, but its not hard to get right on top of a ling or rockfish. Only complaint is the hard trigger pull...should be a easier pull.

I have two Cressi spear guns almost for ten years and I'm happy with the way they aged. They have not lost their charge. In the water they are very quick and very powerful even the smallest size, which is great in close quarters. The only problem I faced was their hard trigger that sometimes effects the aim. It is strange that Cressi has been unable to fix such a minor mechanical but critical issue that would make the gun flawless. Why can't they copy Mares? The fact that Cressi does not provide disassembly instructions is not a good enough reason to degrade a product. It is a a clear indication that such operations should be left to qualified personnel. Pneumatic guns are not regular guns one can make harmless by taking the bullets out, they are more like bombs that have to be defused by experts. Keeping them always charged is the best way to protect the interior mechanism free from sand particles that will deteriorate the seals.

This is my third gun in the last 30 years. My first one will not hold a shaft any more and I gave my second to the sea God. I hunt with this gun in the northwest and it can penetrate 100% of the fish I intended to shoot if it's properly pressured. In Hawaii this gun is not powerful enough to shoot many fish because it's shooting range is only about 7 feet. This gun is easier to load underwater than on land. I customized my gun by changing the spear tip, add on a sea spring and taped on a little weigh at the end of the barrel so it would stand on the bottom after I pulled the trigger. I'm a real believe in this gun.

I recently bought the second one. Does it say something? My old one is still going strong, needed new shaft but otherwise fully functional gun and continues taking more fish. This is short, easy to pack for travel, easy to maneuver around reefs, powerful gun. Low, practically no maintenance, and it is cheap as dirt where spearguns are concerned. Oh, one more thing - it is very accurate, shaft goes where the gun points, I am actually using sights on top of the barrel for longer shots

I have two of these guns, the biggest and the smallest. One I've had for 9 years and the other for 7. Both still perform perfect although I've replaced the spear shafts and tips due to a combination of fast Arkansas bass and hard Arkansas rocks. Great guns though, I've buried the shaft to the hilt on a 65 pound grouper in the gulf of mexico with the large gun and the small one has taken any size bass or catfish I've found in fresh water. Still going strong, if you need a reliable speargun don't hesitate.

I use this gun for small rockcod 12-18inches and for regulation size lings all at 1-4 foot shooting range. The factory pressure is too much for my usage so I pump the gun up 30-35 after draining it to zero. I'm not a strong person so this gun works fine for my arm strength. Later you may want to change out the spear shaft to stainless if the cadium plating wears off from banging around the reef. Also used a 7mm female to 6mm male adapter to fit my 6mm paralzer spear head on the stock 8mm shaft. To me, this is a good deal and best performance for the price if you do not abuse the gun i.e. shooting the gun off in the air instead of underwater. And don't overpump the pressure, I use 30-35 pumps, the manual says 100 but at 100 I couldn't push the shaft in to load! If you need to use it at 100 pumps, I suggest you buy a different gun.

This gun has a heavy duty shaft and is durable. The only problem there is no slot to store the shaft in when the gun is not being used like the MARES.

Use to shoot lobsters and lion fish at natural jump off places in Jamaica. It looks good but dosen't add up. Big problem to load in open water and safety broke after only a few uses. Will be taking it back to you in January, 2012 to see what can be done. You all have been good so far.

Due to the lack of instructions I ended up taking the nozzle of the gun off while trying to figure out how to load the gun when I nearly shot my head off as the nozzle went zinging pass my forehead along with several other parts as well as oil that strayed everywheres.Wouldn't recommend anyone doing that.Make sure you get more info before using.
