Questions & Answers

JASSY M : Hi dose newton have avarge dive like sunnto ?HUGH B : Not sure I understand the question but do not buy newton. Hard to learn how to operate. Expensive to replace battery.PETER L : I don't understand the question.BENJAMIN D D : I have no idea what this means
Charles S : Can this watch be used with a transmitter?Mike T : Hi Chuck, no the Newton is not an air integrated computer.HUGH B : Would be a great addition but no it cannot be used with a transmitter.
JOHN B : User changeable battery like Giotto?Alex F : Yes it does and it is very easy to do.Mike T : Hi John, Yes this is a user changeable battery, that said the procedure to change the battery is different. The following is an excerpt from the user manual. BATTERY REPLACEMENT. Replacing the battery is a very simple operation which does not require any special service and which can be carried out by the user. It must be done every time the device display shows the low battery symbol. IMPORTANT: when replacing the battery, all information related to desaturation, time and date will be lost. Reset the time and date, in order to get correct entries in your computer's logbook. Do not replace the battery when desaturation is in progress since all the information related to desaturation computing will be cancelled. In this case, do not dive for the next 48 hours. After the battery replacement, all settings go back to the latest value set by the user. Time and date must be reset. To replace the battery, with a screwdriver unscrew the two screws from the cover on the back of the instrument. Remove the lid and check the battery and its housing. Should you note traces of corrosion due to water entry, have the device checked by an authorised Cressi centre. If everything appears in good condition, remove the battery from its housing by holding the computer face down. Replace the battery respecting the polarity (an incorrect polarity may damage the device). Before closing the cover, check that there is no soiling on its seat and apply a thin layer of silicone grease to battery cover seal. REMARK: it is important to remember that different factors may affect battery life, such as: time of storage before acquiring the device, dive time, use of backlight, quality of battery whose average life varies depending, for example, on temperature. REMARK: Do not over-tighten the battery cover! Over-tightening the cover does not create a better seal; much on the contrary, it can result in cover cracking or difficulty removing the cover afterwards. REMARK: Make sure that the device is
Shopper : What's the main difference between Newton and Giotto?HUGH B : From reading the specs on both they appear to have the same function but newton can be used in watch mode and is small enough to be used as one.YAN G : Newton is a smaller, watch size computer.
Alfredo G : What is the minimum surface interval time in between dives?Mike T : Hi Freddy, The Minimum surface interval is 2 minutes. If you surface and re submerge in less than two minutes the Newton will consider this a continuation of the first dive.

Great design and functionality!

Love this computer! Sleek design. I have it in grey/black and it looks great. I also like the layout of information on the screen. As an instructor I use it on a daily basis and it has always been reliable. The price is also very fair. No complaints and highly recommended.

Excellent Product

This is the 3rd dive computer I have owned and is, by far, the most intuitive and easiest to use. It is very easy to navigate through the menus and easy to read while diving. I have not used the nitrox functions yet, but the menu is very straight forward and I don't see any issue with user settings. I will probably never use the more advanced functions with dual mixes of nitrox, but the functionality is there for those who do. I also use it as an every-day watch for work. I used this computer recently while diving in Belize. It performed flawlessly on all dives, including a deep decompression dive. (I'm usually a conservative diver but wanted to stay with the group on this particular dive.) The only minor drawback with the Newton is that it has to be manually set for altitude dives, it does not adjust for altitude automatically. It's an easy menu setting so that's not really much to complain about. But you do have to remember to set it! The back-lighting seems to be a bit dim on the surface, but I've had no trouble reading the display at night under water. I would recommend this device to any recreational diver that is looking for a basic, no-nonsense computer that is easy to use and navigate. This computer has far surpassed my expectations at a price that can't be beat. I have purchased a number of items from Leisure Pro and, as usual, this product shipped quickly. I recommend Leisure Pro to my dive buddies because of their fast shipping, price comparison, and items delivered as advertised. I've had no problems with any items that I've purchased from Leisure Pro, so I don't have experience with exchanges or returns, but I would expect that their customer service is well up to par.

Good dive computer

Good dive computer. Would be 5 stars but the buttons are incredibly stiff and it is a bit hard to program although you get the hang of it - isn't rocket science after all. I would like to comment that another user mentioned it needed a factory kit to replace the battery. That is NOT the case; their LDS probably took them for a ride. A few simple screws and the back plate pops off with the O-ring intact. Then its a regular CR type battery you can get at any store. I will say that compared to a Scubapro diver computer my Uncle has this one has more features and actually figures everything out by itself.

Solid Computer

Its a easy to use versatile unit if the back-light feature was a bit brighter that would be an improvement. Overall a good computer, and very streamlined!

Cressi Newton Review

Bought two of these for my son and I. Impossible to program. Have to print the entire owners manual for reference. Talked to the factory rep recently who also admitted he could not program. Just had the battery replaced at local dive shop, requires a factory kit . Now cannot set the time. The up button no longer initiates the time setting. Leaving for Grand Cayman on Sunday and my trusted old mares puck will be in the bag not this piece of crap. Very poor field testing by Cressi and Leisurepro.

Simple to use and good overall quality

The size is perfect as a daily wear watch. I enjoy wearing it during the entire trip and not having to change/add during the trip. Easy to start the computer just before the dive. May take some getting use to as far as the setting of time, depth, etc, however, for a diver like me that simply wants a computer to tell me the needed information (depth, dive time, deco time, and no fly time) its perfect. All that is available on screen at the same time so there is no need switch between displays. Backlight is not too bright, but works fine for a night dive.

NEWTON

After the successful Leonardo and Giotto, Newton is the third project designed, developed and produced in Italy

The Newton computer-watch by Cressi is a recreational advanced tool. It will provide all the necessary information in regards to depth, dive times, possible need of decompression, ascent rate and all the surface intervals between dives. Nitrogen absorption and release is continuously processed by its sophisticated software, taking into account the quantity of inert gas contained in the different mixtures that can be used.

  • Dual-mixture Cressi-Wienke RGBM algorithm: safe decompression calculations in repetitive multi-day dives and with mixtures.
  • Software handles two different hyperoxygenated mixtures, which can be selected during the dive.
  • Visual and auditory alarms. Graphic CNS oxygen toxicity indicator. 'Dive' program: full processing of dive data, including decompression if applicable, for every dive performed with air or nitrox.
  • Complete with dive profile. Log book (70 hr or 60 dives). PC/MAC interface with simulator and dive profile (not included).
  • The Newton is designed and developed in Italy by Cressi, a brand pioneer in scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming equipment since 1946.

It is an elegant and versatile watch design

Hidden beneath its modern and attractive watch is a complete diving computer that stands out for its versatility. Suitable for the advanced or technical diver, but surprisingly simple for the average diver due to its clear and simple presentation of information.Stainless steel anti-shock ABS case. Lightweight construction resistant to impact and wear.

Newton

Super flat profile

The computer case is extremely flat, with a hydrodynamic section and small dimensions (Ø51 mm in diameter), with an excellent digit visibility. Super flat profile (maximum height 14 mm) with a completely rounded, hydrodynamic design that prevents potential snagging. Even the wristband anchor maintains the low profile of the case.

Newton

Reset option available through the menu.

Easy configuration, navigation through the various menus and access to a large amount of information displayed intuitively.Complete Nitrox management with the ability to use two different EAN mixes during the same dive. Air, Nitrox and Gauge Modes. Reset option available through the menu. This eliminates the residual nitrogen so that different users may make consecutive dives. The algorithm incorporates RGBM and Deep Stop (optional). Extended battery life through a combination of systems: battery saver mode when the computer is not used with automatic power-on, low-consumption processor and CR2430 battery.

Newton

With a case diameter of just 2.07" (52.6mm) with a height of 0.6" (15mm) and weighs 4.75 oz. (135 g), Newton is a truly compact dive watch computer. It's also the ideal tool out of the water as well snorkeling, swimming, or just everyday use, thanks to the option to deactivate the dive program to prevent needless alarms or consumption while not diving. The face is mineral glass and the watch has a heavy-duty reinforced case depth rated to 492' (150m). The Cressi Newton Wrist Computer comes with a durable rubber strap with stainless steel buckle. As a timepiece the Newton has a 12/24 format clock with minutes, seconds and calendar. The Newton also has a precision stopwatch, second time setting and alarm clock.

The Newton Dive Computers main dive computer function characteristics are: Dual-mixture Cressi RGBM algorithm this new algorithm was created through a collaboration between Cressi and Bruce Wienke based on the Haldane model, integrated with RGBM factors for safe decompression calculations in repetitive multi-day dives and with mixtures. The computers software handles two different hyper-oxygenated mixtures, which can be selected during the dive. The computer uses a tissues model with 9 saturation half-times ranging from 2.5 to 480 minutes. The "Dive" program provides full processing of dive data, including decompression if applicable, for every dive performed with Air or Nitrox. The Newton has a full setting of FO2 parameters (oxygen percentage) and PO2 (oxygen partial pressure) with the option to set between 17.4 psi and 23.2 psi (1.2 bar and 1.6 bar), and FO2 from 21% and 99%.

The Newton will also allow you the option to take a nitrox dive after one with air (even while de-saturating). Computer allows option to set Deco (decompression calculation) or Gage (depth gauge and timer) modes. The deep stop function can be turned on or off. There is a planning decompression curve scrolling function, computer can be set for metric or imperial units of measure and a graphic CNS oxygen toxicity indicator. When diving in low light conditions the Newton Dive Computer is equipped with a backlit display and allows a logbook function with 70 hr. or 60 dive capacities. Computer has a dive history saved function, option for full reset and is easy to read with a display with oversize digits. Computer is altitude adjustable from 0' to 12,140' (0 to 3,700m). The Newton Dive Computer is compatible with PC/Mac interface with simulator and dive profile (optional). The computer comes with a comprehensive owner's manual.
