This is a great computer when it works. But if it sits too long and you change the battery often the screen doesn't work. Total crap. Avoid!

This is my first dive computer and I bought it because it has more than just Air capability. I wish I had bought the PC link with it. Make sure you download the users guide because the quick reference card is inadequate for a new user.

I've had the Giotto for about 25 dives and it has functioned flawlessly underwater. Easy to use and judging by reviews from those with 100s of dives on them, they are reliable. Pretty middle of the road conservative as it's always pretty close on dive time etc with other divers on the boat. And I like the replaceable screen protector as well. Considering the price most of my complaints are minor. I could wish the numerical display was a bit darker against the background but that's because I'm a bifocal wearing kinda guy. Those with normal eyesight should have no problem. My major complaint is the backlighting. It's pretty anemic even on night dives. All in all I could definitely recommend the Giotto, especially for new divers and those working on a budget.

Why only a 3? It's because of the compass. I like the computer quite a lot during actual dives... simple, clear, good features and yet still affordable. The only downsides in the field are that the buttons are a bit small and the backlight is a bit dim (upside is more battery life I suppose?) At home on the other hand, the software interface is problematic at best and on some days it is impossible to get to a connection between the PC and the dive computer. I rarely do much other than transfer my dives once a month to have a consolidated record, so I can be patient with that. (I have a Mac, IBM-PC users my fare better?) Pressure gauge is mechanical and separate from the computer (which I like in case the computer ever went down for some reason I prefer not to have all my eggs in one basket) and I like the compactness of having it on the backside of the computer. The compass is barely usable and could be considered unsafe if you don't understand the problems with it. Noticing how inaccurate it sometimes seemed to be, I compared it in a test to a Suunto wrist mounted compass and a cheap backpacking compass... both of which performed significantly better. The main issue I discovered is that unless you holding the compass almost perfectly level, it will give false readings that can be more than 90 degrees off!! In the underwater environment in general (and especially the low visibility environments that I usually dive in) it is hard to determine level and so therefore hard to know if the compass is reading correctly. My Suunto in particular was almost unaffected by a tilt of less than 30 degrees, as well as the display making it obvious when the compass was out of level to begin with. If you are willing to stop, be very focused and patient, and to hold the compass in a very deliberate position in relation to your eye, then you can navigate with the Cressi. If you use a compass regularly or if you want to be able to navigate while swimming, I recommend you look elsewhere.

It is exactly as described by the reviews. It is very easy to set up and use. I would rate it average in how conservative its standard settings are. Its back light is not very bright.

Just finished a dive trip to Curacao with this. Bought it as a back up computer to my Oceanic ProPlus 2. The button programming sequence is a bit hard to understand and I FULLY recommend the Online DiveComputerTraining.com website to assist in learning how to use it.

Cressi Giotti is a decent value. I'm not a fan of any dive computer (primitive software, poor linking to laptops, bulky, hard to read and use in the water...) but this is an acceptable choice for budget divers. Be sure to get the fragile docking station, and a good smartphone/laptop app. I use MacDive, imports data to both iPhone and MacBook easily, without the lame Cressi software. I've seen metal UW cases for iPhones in China...that makes sense to me but I doubt the tech is mature yet.

Does everything I wanted it to. Only minor inconveniences: - turning on backlight underwater takes two hands and several seconds, which is cumbersome - the downloaded dive log only showed the bottom temperature, not a temperature curve.

Like the watch and functions as most numbers are easy to read. The only thing I do not like is the safety stop timer does not count down from 3minutes to show minutes and seconds. It only shows 3 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute. Had I known this, I would not have purchased this watch.

The Cressi Giotto was delivered on time and brand new with original packaging. After initial setup, I took it diving 1 week later and it performed well. Particularly I liked the size of read out as I need readers on land. I did NOT like the computer on a night dive or deeper dive as I needed to shine flashlight on it to read and the scatter deemed this virtually unreadable.

My husband and I have been diivng with them for the past week. They are very easy to use and very easy to see with a large display. They are more liberal than our old computers, but still on the conservative side which is good for safety.

I've done 30 dives on this computer now and I am very happy with it. The information is easy to see underwater. No safety issues so far, even with the safety factor at zero. I wouldn't call it a conservative or liberal computer, it seems to be in the middle based on the comparisons I have done. I like the mixed gas functionality (air for the first dive and nitrox for the second, for example). I also like the 1% nitrox increments, rather than strict 32 or 36, as the mixture in the cylinder might vary slightly from the target percentage. The PC interface doesn't work very well as I have to try 2-10 times before it actually downloads the dives to my PC; I wouldn't call it a problem but just an annoyance. I haven't used the software it comes with as I use macdive instead. The light on the watch could be brighter (not very bright in a low light or night dive situation).

had two dives showing "no deco" warnings, months apart. no way one the first; 2nd was marginally possibly valid.* 2nd warning locked up the giotto permanently; the service department said "bad sensor" & replaced with new computer AND sent printouts of my dives' data missing due to lockup! *dive profile shows a "possible," but long return to the boat, at 15-20' , makes it doubtful.

I have only put 5 dives on it in the past couple of weeks but so far it has been great. Easy to use, large display, smooth 3 button navigation.

After answering several questions about this computer I thought it deserved an updated review. I have 510 dives on this thing and I am still using the original battery! Most of my dives are 60 to 70 minute dives as well. It's really easy to use and very durable. I am a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and out of all the computers I've had in the past, this one is my favorite. The fact that it's on sale for $219 USD is insane. You will not find a better deal out there. Trust me. I've tried them all. Nick S. Puerto Aventuras, Mexico

I used the Giotto on 11 dives, including some mixed-air dives getting my Nitrox certification. It is easy to program in either air or Nitrox mode. And it is easy to retrieve data from the log after the dive. This was my first time to dive with a computer. I would not dive again without one. I plan to get a second one for my wife and favorite dive buddy. I have not tried the PC link yet.

Pros: Good first computer - its the first ive owned but have used others. Its liberal in my opinion but not extremely liberal (which is a good thing imo, you dont want to get bent). It easy to use, setup, read. It works out of the box if you just want to hop in the water. The 3 buttons is nice but not a huge advantage. Nitrox up to 99%!!! - F02 to 1.6 (all you'll ever need imo). Comes with a screen protecter. Nice packaging. It just works good and reads easy - all that you cant expect in a first dive computer. Cons: Its thick/big (not gonna make a fashion statement or wear it as a watch for going out on town). The backlighting is not fantastic, it could be brighter, in the daytime you may not even notice it. If ya turn all the lights off, well then its deff nice to have it, my buddy GEO 2.0 is way brighter. The surface interval on tells you how long you've been out, not when its safe to go back in, honestly not a deal breaker as use should know your tables and when its safe to go back in anyway - it will however use/apply the surface time in the dive planner to show you MDT for that planned depth. The no fly symbol is kind of useless - it just says no fly - not a time until you can fly ( i assume its 24hrs on this watch) it would be nice if it showed you a time countdown and maybe altitude (again you can use math for this). The 3 buttons is really not worth the extra $50 over the leanardo - ive used both and honestly if you want to say $50 the leanardo is pretty easy to navigate/setup using the single button - and it setups exactly like the giotto. However saying that, it does only have 40% nitrox vs the giottos 99% - thats kind of a dealbreaker for me and worth the $50 - use your judgement - also the giotto may be more liberal than the leanardo - i think they use slightly different algorithms. The ascent rate is sensitive - if you move your wrist from waist to eye level to take a look you are hearing beeps (this should be adjustable or toned down imo). The PC link interface is really not great, i ended up buying it but really i would save the money or get the divebuddy. They dont offer bungee mounts for the dive computer - i prefer these to the strap. Overal: Its a good buy and deff all you will need until you take your diving to the tech level. The giotto and leanardo share the same infared PC link so you can use it between both. Its liberal compared to Aeris or Suunto but it a safe kinf of way. It will help you get out of deco if you do accidently go into it, dont make that a habbit. I would deff buy it again, i think it offers more features and is better looking as well as more liberal for everything in its price range. Im happy and dont have any buyer remorse.

Have 22 dives with it. Very easy to use, strap fits over many layers of neoprene as well as my bare wrist. 3 buttons make it easy to scroll through. I've even plugged the dock in and printed out some dive logs. You just have to go to the Cressi website and download the latest program. Great computer for the price.

The Giotto computer itself is a great and very easy to use. The biggest downfall to this product is that it is sold with a basically unusable piece of software to interface with your pc which is why I returned it.

I bought this computer from Leisure Pro a few weeks ago. Always prompt delivery and great service from Aaron on the 1800 number. So far it seems like a great computer. As a dive professional I prefer the wrist mount computers over the consoles or air integrated and I recommend my students to do the same. Keep it simple. It has a fairly liberal algorithm. At 60 ft/18 meters you get 49 minutes of NDL time. You can make it more conservative if you like. I've kept everything on the factory settings. 1.4 Po2 for nitrox diving. The important information is easy to read, nice big numbers. Has a long strap for those of you wearing thicker wetsuits. The 2 gas feature is nice especially if you dive both air and nitrox. I've got gas 1 set at 21% and gas 2 set at 32%. So easy to switch. I can do it during decent, depending on which gas I am diving on. You can turn the computer off directly after a dive so that should help on battery life. The 3 button interface takes a little getting used to but it becomes very easy to use after just a few minutes of using it. As a dive instructor, I've tried them all. Suunto, Oceanic, Tusa, Dive Rite, Uwatec, etc. The only thing I can't really comment on is durability as I only have 10 dives or so on it so far. It seems like a great computer and I would have no problem recommending to friends or students. Cressi actually makes it in Italy which surprises me in this day and age. Hope this review helps. Happy diving everyone!

Excellent Diving Computer
By Francesco P.
I used the "Giotto" during my last week scuba vacation in Roatan, Honduras and I was extremely satisfied with the product. The computer comes with a manual CD, however I downloaded the "pdf" manual from Cressi website and read about the basic functions during last hour of flight to reach Roatan. It was enough to start to use the computer in a proficient way because it is very user friendly, it is an excellent design in term of information display. Spending an additional 1/2 hour with the manu...

The 3 buttons computer Giotto provide all the necessary
information in regards to depth, dive times, possible need of
decompression, ascent rate and all the surface intervals between dives.Nitrogen absorption and release is continuously processed by its sophisticated software, taking into account the quantity of inert gas contained in the different mixtures that can be used. This information is shown on the device’s display thanks to the PCD system.
Giotto is the first mixed gas dive computer designed-and-built entirely by Cressi. Giotto's 3-button interface makes it effortless to program air, nitrox and gauge modes from the first time a diver picks the computer up. The high-definition screen has large numerical displays in a computer that is still compact and travel friendly. The clearly visible battery life indicator and distinct audible alarms deliver critical information as well as peace-of-mind during the dive. The Giotto can also be fully reset after each use, making it an excellent choice for rental departments
The Cressi Giotto Computer has a new algorithm created through a collaboration between Cressi and Bruce Wienke based on the Haldane model, integrated with RGBM factors for safe decompression calculations in repetitive multi-day dives and with gas mixtures. The software handles two different hyper-oxygenated mixtures, which can be selected during the dive.
The Giotto computer by Cressi is a recreational advanced tool. It will provide all the necessary information depth, dive times, possible need of decompression, ascent rate and all the surface intervals between dives. Nitrogen absorption and release is continuously processed by its sophisticated software, considering the quantity of inert gas contained in the different mixtures that can be used. This information is shown on the device's large display via the PCD (Priority Compartment Digit Display) system that allows an easy and direct "dialogue" between the diver and the computer, ensuring a clear understanding of all the data needed at any given time and a perfect readability in any situation.
The computer is provided with 12/24-hour format clock, calendar and a versatile dive memory (logbook 70 hr. or 60 dives). The mathematical model of Giotto can make saturation and de-saturation calculations of dives carried out both with air and with nitrox in any moment of the dive. In this last case you can set all the parameters related to the mixture of your dive: from the maximum allowed PO2 value from between 17.4 to 23.2 psi (1.2 bars and 1.6 bars), to the mixture's oxygen percentage (FO2): between 21% and 99% of O2. Additionally, the device may be set by the user for either metric (meters- C-degrees) or imperial system (feet- F-degrees). Computer is also altitude adjustable up to 12,139' (3,700m).
The Giotto Dive Computer has a backlight function for low light or night diving conditions, displays depth to 393' (120m), is altitude adjustable and has a user replaceable 3-Volt CR2430 battery. The computer comes with a gauge face guard, measures (D x H) 2.6 x 1" (65 x 27mm) and weighs 4.77 oz (135g). The computer also comes with a comprehensive owner's manual.
