Questions & Answers

Shopper : HI. My calf size is 16 inches w/o the drysuit. Wich is teh correct size for me? Thanks a lot.CHRIS W : Hi, my calf is 15-inches w/o the drysuit and I bought a large. My gaitor system worked fine over my DUI CF200 crushed neoprene drysuit as well as with my DUI FLX EXTRME (trilaminate) drysuit. I hope this helps.
Stuart A : Hi LP, What size do I need? My calf size is 16 inches... cheers StuartMARK F : They run a bit small so you should be looking at a size largeCHRIS W : Hello Stuart, My calf is 15 inches and purchased the "large" gaitor system. This worked fine with my heavier and thicker crushed neoprene drysuit, but I now use a lighter and thinner fabric suit (trilaminate material). The large still works fine, but I'm not sure if the medium would be a little tighter when adjusted. I think in your case the large would be fine. This is the sizes I used as a guide - Small (12-inch calf size), Medium (14-inch calf sizes) or Large (16-inch calf sizes). As you can see I'm in between a medium and large. I hope this helps. I like the system. It helps to reduce air in my boots as well as providing more lower leg and knee protection.MARK B : I just measured my calf relaxed and bare, at 14". I originally ordered the "Medium", but returned them for the "Small". These work great for me and still have enough adjustment to slide my leg through while putting them on, then cinching them up. These are easiest to put on the suit first, then sliding your legs into the suit with them in place. Same for taking them off due to their stiff construction. I am diving a DUI CF200 (compressed neoprene) that is pretty form fitting and undergarment never heavier than a medium fleece. I am also diving a DUI RS1050 vulcanized rubber commercial suit with similar undergarments. Besides protecting the dry suit from abrasions, they pretty much eliminate the dreaded "up-side-down-Macy's-parade-float" syndrome". These SHOULD come standard on most suits in my humble opinion since they make the whole dry suit experience much more enjoyable and easier. I know they seem expensive for what they are and do, but "Buy once, cry once" for quality.ALAN K : Stuart, The BARE Drysuit Gaitor System is GREAT! I love mine ,and would recommend them. God Bless, AK PS- as to size, contact BARE Tech. for help there.MICHAEL D : Large is best since they are adjustable and will cover a larger area when Velcro'd in place. Also, your calf circumference will very with what you wear underneath.STEPHEN C : My calves measure 17". With an undergarment and a dry suit the large size is fine for me. I put them on then get into the water, loosen then re-tighten the upper velcro. If you trap air in the bottom (foot) they wont help you. Gators have completely stopped me from getting air into the feet of the suit if I am head-down under water.
RICH A : what size is large i need a size 13 and is the bottom a steel shank ?JANICE H : The gaitor sizing is based on calf size. The boot is not included with the system. Other reviews suggest placing the gaitor over drysuit legs before getting into suit and then adjusting Velcro as needed. The listing for "system" and the photo suggest the boot is included. Still a good product and does the job as intended. Hope this helps.STEPHEN C : this doesnt go on the foot.. it wraps the leg above the ankle. i have the large size ... they close with velcro .. These solve the problem of air getting into the leg and foot of my dry suit.. i was about to build my own from neoprene when i discovered these. Problem solved good luckMICHAEL D : The Gator is a shin guard and not attached to a boot. It is tapered from top to bottom with velcro straps to hold it in place. If you are rough on your suit its fine but you should already have this same type scuff resistant material on a dry suit.THOMAS D : The Bare "Rock" boots I purchased were separate from the gaiters. I wear a size 11 shoe and needed a size 12; they seem to run small. The boots I have do not have steel shanks. The gaiters, I believe are 1 size fits allEDWIN J : I think that large will fit you perfectly. I ordered medium, my shoe size is 11 and my calves are 15.5". No steel shank on the bottom and no boots included.
Shopper : Are these attached to the boots?LeisurePro S : No; slip the gators onto the suit before you get into the suit (they are not attached to the boots. No boots are included). There are adjustable straps that allow you cinch the gators tight to your shin after you get into the suit.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?JIM S : Protection while working under boats

Best investment you can make

I bought the gator system to use with my drysuit, but found that it really works great with wetsuits as well. Especially when your doing different type of work underwater and want to save the knees on your suits.

great to use, but be sure to READ well

The gaiator system is just for legs and the pack doesn't include a boot to wear on dry suits. Although there's a small note in the advertisement, i noticed that after i received the pack. I wouldn't buy the system if i knew that non-boot package before purchasing, and now it costs too much to change the idea when living overseas. But still i use them in comfort. A package deal including boots and gaiator system with less cost would be grat.

Good Value

[...] no instructions - so took a while for me to work out that these should be fitted onto the dry suit before you put the dry suit on, which was still a bit fiddly, but once they are threaded on to each leg , they are on!I bought these as I have an "off the peg" dry suit that is slightly too long in the legs - so previously particularly in the 10m-5m zone on ascent I could on occaision feel the legs get a bit light and the feet a bit floppy, these Gaitors have solved that problem.I find the trick is to adjust them tightly , though they will still move around a small amount on your legs below 25m due to compression. The adjustment straps are Velcro only, so I wonder how long they will last as they have to be completely undone and done up again every time you dive - would have been better with a Fastex buckle arrangement as well as Velcro, but they are good value vs what else is available. Also bear in mind that the legs on the dry suit will now be a bit heavier and take longer to dry after the dive.
