Shopper : If this product is purchased used, does it come with a new mouth piece?RUSS R : NO, mouthpiece is part to the snorkel and is not removable.
Shopper : Is this a soft snorkel or hard one? Is it possible to bend it several times and stash in a pocket?LeisurePro S : This snorkel has a hard top with a slightly flexible bottom. You wouldn't be able to fold it several times, however. Wet, hard to clear

This snorkel is opposite of everything Atomic claims it is. It does very poorly in choppy conditions, is extremely wet and very hard to clear, especially clearing nuisance water. I was looking for a better snorkel. Currently have an old Scuba Pro Shot Gun 2. Twin valve, open top. I tested the two side by side swimming along a choppy, south facing beach. Wind about 15 knots out of the south. I swam 15 minutes east, then 15 minutes west with each snorkel. The Atomic was prone to taking on water in both directions whereas the Scuba Pro was surprisingly dry. It was hard to clear small amounts of water from the Atomic and that needed to be done constantly. The SP clears far more easily and if it does get a bit swamped, because of the SP's simple open top, you can plug it with your thumb and be dry on the next exhale. You cannot do this with the Atomic due to the design of the top. Which is supposed to help keep it dry, but it fails miserably in this category. The Atomic tends to lay forward on the head so it is never even close to perpendicular to the water meaning you must crane your neck upwards to keep the Atomic out of the water. Put your head down in a neutral position and the next wave is guaranteed to enter. It is really a poor design. I would not recommend it.

Review of Atomic gear specifically snorkel.

Snorkel came and was exactly as expected and described on the website. I have only had opportunity to use in pool since receiving but function appears to be perfect. I also purchased the Venom mask and some split fins and all products came quickly and were exactly as expected. Good stuff.

Designed for Scuba Divers,not snorkelers

The scupper valve works great. If it is completely filled with water a moderate blow will expel water from the top and bottom of the snorkel. With more water inside the tube, it clears easier because of the siphoning action. When a small amount of water enters, it may require 3 blows to get out. The wave guard works good too. In moderately choppy waters, none entered the vent. The ventilation was good too as the bore is wide enough to allow heavy breathing. The snorkel keeper rotates and move up and down. It fits a bit slack on my 'Cressi big eyes evolution crystal' mask, because the straps are not wide enough. The snorkel is also heavy compared to my cressi corsica. I primarily Snorkel/Freedive in 80/20 % of the time in tropical waters. This snorkel has a flexible tube with no J type support. My mouth was getting tired and my teeth hurt from biting hard to keep the snorkel in my mouth, as I had to support the weight of the bottom part of the mouthpiece. I could snorkel for over 3 hrs. straight with the cressi corsica with no mouth fatigue. Not a bad snorkel, but for the price, it is the most expensive piece of plastic that I own. This snorkel was designed for scuba divers who need to save oxygen while getting out or back to the boat. The flexible mouthpiece tube was also made to swing away from the mouth and thus accomodate the regulator. It was not designed for snorkelers who require a snorkel with a J support for prolonged use. I would order the Cressi corsica or the Riffe J snorkel next time.

Great Product!

Like all Atomic products, the SV2 moves the bar on a variety of points--some of them just tiny technical tweaks--but all add up to a professional grade item that simply outperforms. I've used this snorkel recreationally in a variety of conditions and have always been pleased--it simply works and let's me get back to having fun. I've also put it to work in some pretty big seas and rough chop--the scupper minimizes intake of water and the purge valve is a very effective--no effort at all. I've never been a big fan of "dry" snorkels because I hate that "lock out" feeling when you go for air at the surface--the SV2 fits my preferences and demands perfectly.

OK, but expensive...

I also found the scupper not so effective. It clears, but sometimes requires 2-3 blows. I started putting a hand over the intake. Also not so sure how the slide adjustment on the side is suppossed to work! Always slipped to full out position. Comfortable and effective, but not to justify the price.

Just a snorkel

Not overly impressed with the scupper valve, seemed just as prone to getting water as other snorkels I have used. I do like the quick release and that it will slide up and down easily, the mouthpiece rotates easily. Bit pricey given all of the above.

Lower purge not efficient

The lower purge valve does not purge efficiently.

Comfortable, good in rough water

Just back from Belize where this snorkel worked very well in rough water at the beginning & end of 8 dives. Allowed me to concentrate on getting back in the boats in whitecap seas without inhaling water.

Elevate your diving experience and explore the underwater world like never before with the innovative Atomic Aquatics SV2 Semi-Dry Snorkel.

Many divers forgo the snorkel, but the savvy ones know that using a snorkel significantly increases bottom time and overall enjoyment. How? A snorkel cuts back on the amount of air you waste breathing through your regulator at the surface, saving it for when you're exploring the sea depths.

The Atomic Aquatics SV2 Semi-Dry Snorkel, with its Scupper Valve (SV) or one-way valve, gives you all this and more. This advanced feature, much like the valve in your regulator, efficiently expels water from your snorkel, keeping the inside dry. The SV2 goes a step further with a small tube just beneath the mouthpiece, designed to keep your breathing path clear of water droplets.

But what sets the Atomic Aquatics SV2 Semi-Dry Snorkel apart is its grill grid opening at the top, which deflects water that could otherwise enter your snorkel tube. Coupled with the flexible lower tube that automatically swings out of the way when you're using your Scuba regulator, you're in for a seamless diving experience.

Easy to adjust thanks to a quick-release snorkel keeper with 30-degree rotation and a sliding adjuster, the Atomic Aquatics SV2 Semi-Dry Snorkel is the epitome of comfort and practicality. It includes a removable and replaceable silicone mouthpiece and is available in an array of vibrant colors.
