Shopper : what size should I buy if I'm a size 8 woman?JOE S : you would most likely fit in size 6/7 the best.
JULIET L : What is the weight of the fins in med/lge size?  Do you wear them with scuba socks?JOE S : You can wear them with scuba socks or barefoot. Socks are a great way to fill the space if you are between sizes, but not necessary if they fit properly. The weight is about 3 lbs per pair.
Shopper : Are these negative buoyancy?JOE S : Slightly negative.
Shopper : Are these fins cut wide? I’m 11.5+EEEJack H : Yes. I am 14 extra wide and they are a comfortable fit.RUSSELL W : 13 wide in a sneaker and there isn't much extra width in these foot pockets but comfortable for meJOE S : They are moderately wide, but you might have a tight fit with a EEE.Charlotte H : they are not...they are fairly slim, with a little bit of GIVE...but don't count on a lot of stretch in width
Sue O : Are the fins a reasonable width as I normally need a D fitting?JOE S : They fit. wide range of sizes and width. it should not be a problem, but may have to size up on these.PATRICK C : I have a short fat foot and they worked fine for me.

Aquatic split fins size XL and small

So I purchased 2 pairs of these split fins, after being let 2 pairs for my wife and I. They work very good with minimal work output from yourself.. Got the silver/Grey fins in XL And the pink/black in small. With our dive boots on they fit very well. These buckles, let me tell you. last weekend during the eclipse we went our about 7am 3foot waves.. On return, the waves had jumped up to 4-8 feet. We timed it at a break but just couldn't make it in fast enough. We where tossed and turned for 2 7foot waves.. I counted at least flips before I got hit by the next wave but these fins where still on my feet the whole time. Highly recommended. The price is a little high but you won't be dissapointed once u slip your feet in and become one with the sea.

Great Fin But Too Wide For Me

Great fin, awesome power, average fit (Mens Sz 8). Unfortunately the blade was too wide and would hit against each other on the kick / stroke. Sold them and purchased a smaller pair.

It's not really a 14 more like a 13 1/2 but it feels great and fits great

Great fins... but they only seem to last a few hundred hours

These are some of the most comfortable and powerful fins I've used. No complaints.

AWESOME FINS

Been looking at these fins for a couple years now. Love the way they look, but they were Really pricey! Read reviews and forums, they are rated in the top 5 best fins of all time. You see divers all the time wearing these fins. I finally pulled the trigger and bought me a set w/ the spring straps. When i rec'd them i thought they felt very HEAVY. I was a little worried because i weighted them on a set of Taylor hanging scales and they weighted in @ 5.80 lbs an are 26" long! You see I'm 58 yrs old, 5' 10"weight 185 lbs, OK shape, but I also have skinny, crampy legs and toes. I thought that i had wasted my money, because how could a set of heaver fins be good for my profile. I've been diving an old set of Oceanic V-8 splitfins for years, which i really love, and they have done well for me ! They weigh 4.50 lbs and are 25" in Length . The new Atomic splitfins were 1.25 lbs heaver. I Just got back from a week of diving in Key Largo FL, reef diving in current & wreck diving w/ current. LOVE EM!!!!! I did 10 dives with Atomic splitfins and will never look back. If these fins get lost ,stolen, or whatever i will buy a new pair!! You get what you pay for! I will dive theses fins for the rest of my career scuba diving. You hear and see all kind of BS. I'm very OCD w/ my equipment. Here are the facts, because the real spec's are hard to find on websites. Theses are the original Atomic splits. Not the Smoke on water or the high performence firmer splits. No, they are not more bouyant. They will sink. Weight 5.80 lbs, lenght 26" long. You'll never know the weight diff in the water. BEST FINS ever! Marcus NC.

So far so good.

These fins are very comfortable, and look sharp. I believe that you give up a little speed with this design, but the split fin is easy on the ankles. At first, the foot of the fin was folding under the arch of my foot when I kicked. This was annoying, but I realized that my foot was not flexing when kicking (it had been awhile since I swam with fins). With some practice, this went away as I gained flexibility in my foot. My speed also increased with this flexibility. I like these fins.

Most of my dive gear is Atomic and for a good reason. I got some full-foot fins and they seem really durable and of great quality. This is what I wanted and paid for.

Very impressed with these

I've had mine a few years now and a little over 100 dives with them. They have delivered everything I was looking for when i went to a full foot split fin. First, they fit! I have a wide size 13ish foot. I wear a lycra material ultra thin sock and have never been uncomfortable or had a blister. Agility. I dive a lot in current. Drift diving requires agility in finning to minimize effort expense. At times a burst of speed across and slightly into the currents of Cozumel are required to get video of that spotted Eagle Ray - these fins deliver. I bought the ugly yellow ones, so my buddy can tell its me. You can see them!

Better on joints.

Used these in Hawaii under very strong surf conditions. The split fin design was much better on my knees and anckles, over traditional fin designs.

Good Split Fin

Fin works well for a full foot type. Takes a few dives to become comfortable with transition from a ScubaPro split fin. I should have order 1 size up, but fin works well.

A bit pricey but worth it if you value swimming much.

This is my fourth pair that I wore out and replaced...even bought some for my grown-up son so he too could enjoy them.

Go with the bigger size, if in doubt.

Received my upsized fins today. Had to exchange the original smaller size, as they were much too tight. Originals were 10.5-11.5 (I wear size 11 shoe). The new 12-14 size is much more comfortable. So if you are in doubt about size, go with the bigger. Can’t wait to try the fins out under water! They seem really nice.

My wife and i both use these fins with great success, even in moderate currents.

Oddly, they are lighter than some of the so called, "travel fins" they are long tho so you need a larger suitcase. BUT, along with these fins..., my wife and I travel with Apeks regs/Octos, and Scuba Pro Lightweight BCDs. Total under 30 lbs!!!!!

Best underwater fins I have ever used.

Started diving in 1968 ok. Love these fins. They are perfect for me. You can go fast or just hover over a reef and have great control with just a flick of your toes. For me I prefer a more flexible fin for snorkeling.

Love these

I love these fins. I wear a 7.5 shoe size and have wide feet. I ordered a Small and they are a little too tight with soled booties, but neoprene socks are perfect with these. Would recommend.

These fins Give Me Superpowers

These fins are incredible. I researched for months before choosing. I place comfort at the top of my priority list, followed by efficiency and ease of use in the water. I am a 5'11' average slim build woman with 9.5 women's shoe size. I bought the Atomic Aquatics Full Fot Split Fin in 7.5-8.5. They fit like a glove in and out of the water. Performance: increased thrust, reduced fatigue, lightweight, great for travel, accomodating to differnt kick styles. To ensure comfort in a fin, you have to make sure no hard parts of the fin press against your foot when you move in the water. They should also be snug out of the water, as they will never become more tight once you get wet. These have an open tow which adds superior comfort (and you don't have to pour water out). Full foot is best for snorkeling and swimming around in water where you'll otherwise be barefoot. (open backs are for use with bootie shoes and full dive gear). I purchased these to take on my snorkeling trips. I like to stay on the ocean for hours at a time, every day for a week, spending multiple hours snorkeling. I want to be able to maneuver and be safe with the coral. Also I can stick these in my stand up paddleboard backpack and keep it moving! Blade fin vs. split fin. Blade fins are more popular because people think they are kicking harder and getitng more thrust, but they are fatiguing the legs faster. Split fins give more endurance, and decreased fatigue and move you through the water like lightening - when you use the recommended flutter kicking style (just kick your feet up and down like normal, with a smaller range of motion, staying within your body frame, moving from your hip, not your knee. You can go to the Atomics website to research howand why these fins work the way they do. Yes - you can get a decent pair of fins for $35-40. But I decided to splurge on the best in the world - Edward Norton, Kevin Costner, David Blane, and Antarctic science explorers all use Atomic Aquatics. It pays to go with the best for superior comfort and durability and performance. My two cents. :-) I bought them in bright yellow. Some people argue fish may be attracted to bright colors, or that you can't hide from the fish, there are multiple debates. For me, it's most important to be seen by a boat and not get run over more easily than with black.

Great Performance - Poor Lifespan

I really liked the performance of these fins. They worked great for warm water diving vacations but they came apart at the seams after about 100 dives. I wore these barefoot but found that after diving 2 tanks/day for a couple of weeks, my ankles and feet would get rubbed raw and so I started wearing lycra sock when using these fins. Even so, when I shop for new fins, I will consider buying these fins again.

Excellent full foot split fin and spot on fit

I purchased two pairs of these (for my wife and I) as we are getting older (and my knees give me problems sometimes). My wife used them solely for snorkeling (and very little of that) and I used them mostly for scuba diving (13 dives over 5 days) in warm St. Croix waters while on vacation. I tend to wear between size 10-11 shoes (depending on brand), usually 10.5 or 11. I bought the 10.5-11.5 sized fins and they fit perfectly. My wife has tiny feet and ideally wears woman's size 5.5 (sometimes size 5 and sometimes 6 if she can't find anything smaller, which is a problem these days). The sized 4.5-5.5 fins I got her fit her perfectly as well, although as she ended up not doing much snorkeling, I can't say much about fit beyond a one time use. That said, after about 20 hours in the water with them (between 9 dives over 4 days, plus snorkeling and a lot of pool swimming daily with them to practice various kick techniques), I noticed I did start having some skin being rubbed off my middle toes on each foot. Although I firmly believe it was not a fit issue or an issue with the brand/model of fins... I had no issues until near the end of my 2 week stay. I suspect that full foot fins on bare feet might be better for less frequent use. I might go with open heel fins (with spring straps) next time and wear dive boots to minimize chafing when doing a lot of dives back to back. Others may not have the same issue, and now that I know which toes have issues, I could preemptively wrap them with fabric Band-Aids (since they stay on in water well... several days as I discovered). I would recommend these for anyone shopping for full foot split fins, but might suggest open heel fins with dive boots for heavier users.

Good product. They run tight.

These run tight, The US shoe size is the lower number in the range indicated. They have their own idea how they want to move thru the water. That means they will stress your knees. If you have good knees, this wont be a problem. If you do have knee issues, it will depend on how well the fins idea of how to move agrees with your knees biomechanics.

Well worth it!

First set of split fins I have used and I was very impressed. A few inches longer than my other fins and felt a bit clumsy out of the water but good thrust vs. effort. Worth the $.

Nice warm water fins

I wear a size 13 shoe and the XL fit just right. If you are a size 12, the pocket would be a little loose and a 14 a little snug, but probably still comfortable. The fins have plenty of power for diving with a light easy flutter kick. More power is available and would give you as much as most paddle fins. There is a difference between the materials and comfort between Atomics and Tusa fins. The Tusa's are almost as good and far cheaper, but you get what you pay for. The narrower design of the Atomics and different materials give slightly more thrust per amount of energy put in and do not tend to hit each other. I find I have to consciously keep the Tusa's apart since they have a wider design. The Atomics work better with a frog kick, but not as good as a typical paddle fin. On the surface, the 20 degree angle of the fins make a face down surface swim slightly more work than a fin without the 20 degree angle, but for diving this is a plus for the typical body position during scuba diving. Nice fins. The only reason for 4 not a 5 is the surface swimming is not perfect.

Best fins EVER

By SouthFla

I've been a certified diver since early '80's, spent 10hours/day in the water as a marine biologist in the early 90's, and currently dive both recreationally and as a certified Police Diver. And I don't think I have EVER been comfortable in any set of fins, either open healed or footies, until I put on these... These are hands down the most comfortable, easy wearing fins I've ever had. I recently battled blisters with my old fins, and based on the review here purchased these fins, along wit...

Great Fins

By RONALD P.

First of all, let me say that I'm a diehard paddle fin person. I bought a set of these for my wife so that they would be easier on her legs and ankles. Just to see the difference I went to a pool, squeezed into her fins, took a deep breath, and swam the length of the pool underwater. 20 seconds. I did this several times. It felt like I wasn't even wearing fins but I could really feel the water flowing over my shoulders. Every time around 20 seconds. Just to have a laugh, I put on my big,...

Split fins have become the most popular style fin in diving today. Just look around when you are out beach diving or on the charter boat and you will soon discover that more divers are making the switch to this style fin. Why are they so popular? They are popular because they work, and you, work less! A split fin performs more like the combination of a whale's tail and a propeller. When you kick the two separate blades twist and create more of a propeller surface which will increase your propulsion and lift. You feel as if the fin is not strong enough to keep you moving as fast as you are accustomed with your full bladed fin, yet you cover the same distance in the same time.

Less drag, more thrust and most important less strength is used. The split fin design is not only unique; it uses the latest technology in composite plastic polymer materials to give a light fin (great travel fin) and one that increases thrust and reduces fatigue. Extensive R&D and testing yielded the perfect formula of flexibility and rigidity for efficient propulsion. Atomic Aquatics multi-composite plastics result in a powerful kick that requires less effort, stress and strain meaning less air consumption. The power rails are highly-resilient and perform as the backbone of the split fin, storing and releasing energy with every kick. The semi-ridged flex battens set in the soft elastomeric blade, control the precise wing shape to optimize thrust and reduce drag. The large surface area blade improves pivoting, turning and alternate kick styles.

Thin, yet strong and highly flexible hinge points between the semi-ridged battens cause the blade to react quick-and-efficiently to the slightest kick. The Anatomically contoured full foot pocket designed to fit your foot without stress points. Foot pocket has a large heel pull-tab for easy donning and doffing of fins. The Atomic Aquatics Full Foot Split Fins are available in multiple sizes, and comes in black or yellow colors. So, make the switch and use less effort which equates to less air usage and longer more comfortable dives.
