Questions & Answers

Pavel R : Is the straps length adjustable?KAY R : Yes. They are adjustable with Velcro straps. I have a couple of different pairs of ankle weights and these are by far the best.SUSAN C : There is some limited adjustment to the click length allow the weight to be larger around. I am not sure if this answers your question.DOUG M : No. There is no adjustability other than varying the amount of shot. The more shot added, the tighter they fitPEGGY G : Yes
Shopper : Would these work for exercise? Aqua fill ankle weights have not gotten good reviews.Bruce C : Go to Walmart and look at their ankle weights. Same price and or cheaper. These could work, but depending on how you exercise may not be the best choice. They are made for diving, and are good for that, but are thin and not made to flop around like if you are doing jumping jacks.RENAE B : The closure is made of velcro. For diving, I fill my ankle weights with sand. I am not sure how well that would work for exercise especially if jumping, running, etc is involved. I guess it would all depend on what you are going to use for weight.Steve S : Yes, these can definitely work for exercise.SHANE K : Yes, I think these ankle weights work great for exercise as well as diving. It doesn't take a lot of weight to make your workout harder. I purchased the five pound ankle weights, but only use three pounds of weight in them. I originally purchased the three pound version, but found them to be too small. As another person suggested, I placed my lead weight in plastic bags first and I think they work great.LARRY M : Hello, they worked fine for, we use led shot.STEVE S : I suppose so, But for working out why not go to a sports authority and buy regular work out ankle weights? The ability to fine tune the weight for good trim is the only reason for the adjustable pouches. SteveHENRY L : The ankle weight suit my purpose of adding a small amount of weight to my legs to balance out my profile for spearfishing. I use lead washers strung together with mono line inside by weaving them in the correct fashion they lie flat and don't cut off my circulation. I have reservation about them working well as workout weight. The issue would be will they secure firmly enough against your ankles during a work out without flopping around. To tighten them enough to prevent the movement would incur discomfort. When I am diving I have 4mm dive boots on so the tension is padded. Bottom line I like the product but as workout weights I recommend a pass. Get a pair with lead shot in them and elastic bands. They will cost more than twice as much but be fit for your intended use.DEBORAH C : I have only used these ankle weights while scuba diving, but I believe they would be fine for exercising. The velcro holds firmly and the weights don't move around on my ankles, even while I'm in the water. I opened a couple of soft scuba weight pouches and used the contents in these ankle weights. For optimum trim while diving, I only need 1 pound in each ankle weight.GABRIELA L : They could. Depends how lose they'll be around your ankles. They would be lose around mine without my 7mm suit on.
Shopper : what do you fill it with?Bruce C : I have mine filled with lead shot, but sand works as well. Use a funnel to fill them with so you keep the shot or sand out of the Velcro.VERONICA D : I have only used these once and I filled them with sand.ILENE S : We bought it to use on our camera lens housing but it didn't fit correctly so we have never used the ankle weight. SorryJUNE H : Lead shot is recommended. CATHY O : Sand or fine gravel.ROD B : Easiest is sand, if available. Just be aware to dump and clean as the sand will leak out onto your gear.WILL F : I had lead shot from a different ankle weight on which the neoprene had worn thin. You could also buy your own lead shot. Well made item.ROD K : Lead shot. I got mine from a shot shell reloading supply.GABRIELA L : I bought a loose lead, put it in a couple ziplock bags and just pushed it in. There may be a better ideas, but that was the only one I came up with ;-) it worked. The pouches are so small, that it's hard to fill it up with anything. Good luck :-)GABRIELA L : I bought a loose lead, put it in a couple ziplock bags and just pushed it in. There may be a better ideas, but that was the only one I came up with ;-) it worked. The pouches are so small, that it's hard to fill it up with anything. Good luck :-)HENRY L : I used lead washers interweaved with 4000 pound test mono lineJOHN Y : Lead shot that is used for reloading shot gun shells.STEVE S : Lead shot. You can get it at any store that sells reloading supplies. The amount you have to buy will be much more than you need. The operator should be able and willing to give you the contact info for a person that reloads for Trap, or Skeet, who would be willing to sell a much smaller amount.RENAE B : I use sand.RAYMOND G : Lead shotPHILIP L : I used one and two ounce fishing leads I'd accumulated. You could use small stones but they are not as dense as lead. Not sure what is designed to go in there.EUGENE M : 1). Led shot. Heavyest per valume. 2). copper BB's (steel) will work. In a jam anything to add weight to ankles. Used for dry suits mostly. Use with caution as it can be hard to dump or detach from leg in emergency. Could drown Sold with out led for cheeper shipping. GABRIELA L : I bought a loose lead, put it in a couple ziplock bags and just pushed it in. There may be a better ideas, but that was the only one I came up with ;-) it worked. The pouches are so small, that it's hard to fill it up with anything. Good luck :-)SUSAN B : Lead shot that you can buy from any gun store
Frankie F : May I have the dimension of the ankle weight? Is the length adjustable? I am thinking to use it on the dome port of my underwater camera setup as it is too buoyant, thanks.ILENE S : We tried this on our camera dome too. It was to hard to get at the clips to take on and off. I found a better solution was to use stick on wheel balancing weights that we stick to the outside of the dome.ROD K : The ankle weight will adjust out to about 13 inches. I use them with my drysuit. They have held up quite well. I hope this helps.MIKE K : The weight pocket is 9.5" x 2.5" (outside dimension) The pocket cavity is 8" x 2" The velcro security on the strap allows an adjustment of 10.5" to 14.5" (Clasp to clasp) without stretching the weight pocket. Adjusting the clasp beyond the velcro hook portion of the strap allows another 2" of strap adjustment to a max of 16.5"GREGORY J : They're about 9 inches long and 2 inches wide. You can adjust the straps about 3 inches longer than the 9 inch pouch.ROD B : Hi Frankie, It is not length adjustable and they can be prone to sand leakage if that is what you use as weight.STEVE S : May I recommend something different for a camera? Stick on wheel weights,(used for balancing car wheels) They can be cut and shaped (somewhat) They can be stuck onto the light bar attached to the bottom of the camera housing. They would be much less bulky and easier to handle.
Dominique R : how long are these? Would they fit around a child's ankle?Bruce C : They would be too large for a small child.EUGENE M : No and not a good idea for a chidRENAE B : They would be too long for a child. They are about 10 inches longDON M : Hello Dominique, they are likely too long to fit around a child's ankle without falling off but would not be too difficult to fold at one end and shorten with a few stiches or cut them down and re-sew the release buckle in place. They are a great idea and I use them often for free diving and keeping my fins quiet on the surface when spearfishing. Have fun and be safe, Don.JUSTIN L : They are about 10-12 inches. They may be a bit loose around a child's ankles. They are not THAT adjustable.VICTOR G : Ankle weight might be big for child. Weight fits my dry suit. You could be creative and cut down./?

Ankle weights

I used BBs as weight but sand would work. The weight distributes evenly and they are comfortable. The seal is velcro but holds well.

Ok, but......

These weights are a great idea, but the buckles are not strong enough, and being plastic, one of mine has broken. So, when they work, they work great. Also, the Velcro won’t hold small shot very well. Not a terrible problem, if you simply stitch the end shut. I really want to like these, when they work they are great, but.....

Better choices

Velcro closing system isn't strong enough. Weak design.

So far so good!

Expensive for what you get, but convenience costs. One nice thing is I can adjust my weight as needed. I am using lead shot, but could just as easily use sand. With Sand I could change weight rather easily as needed. Make sure the Velcro is good and tight, I lost some lead shot last time I dove when I tossed the weights to see how they hold the weights in.

Does the job.

These are easy to lid with weight, and the pocket is quite secure. The straps have a Velcro type fastener in addition to the buckle, so they don't loosen at all while diving. The only downside, is that since I only loaded one pound of weight into each, it tends to bunch up and isn't evenly distributed.

Fillable ankle weights

Great I have weights of various amounts in zip lock bags. Easy to adjust. Just change ziplock bag to new weight needed

Very good

Great if you're trying to reclaim McNutt ankle weights that wear out,.. or re-use sack weights you no longer need. Velcro buckle is particularly novel and permits solid micro-adjustments.

Weights at the Cheapest Price

The neoprene wetsuit I use makes me positively buoyant. I need to offset that upward force with this item to avoid having my feet be above my head for most of the dive. I need practice with it to avoid letting sand whisk away from its mouth. I'm sure it would be a better product with a Youtube demo.

Weights at the Cheapest Price

The neoprene wetsuit I use makes me positively buoyant. I need something to hold down my legs to avoid having my feet always be above my head during a dive. I feel like this will eventually work if I keep practicing using it. The sand seemed to wash away upon first use but I squeezed it in tighter and it seems to be improving; I have yet to go again to try it.

Adequate ankle weighting

Great, light product to travel with. Upon arrival, we went to the beach and filled them with sand. We didn't have a scale, but I suspect they only weighed around 1 lb each. We used these for cage diving with Great Whites. Could have used a heavier substance to fill them with for this purpose. Easy on and off, and while I thought the sand might wash away, the velcro closure did do a good job of holding it. I think to get up to 3 lbs you would need either lead or steel shot or some other form.

Gets the job done!

My wife needed ankle weights because her fins are positively buoyant and she is tiny, but we couldn't find any weights light enough to do the job. These "fill your own" weights were PERFECT for us, she ended up using 1 1/4 pounds per leg after dialing in her buoyancy on several dives. They are well made and after 30 dives no problems have occurred!

ankle weights

a good value after your ankle weights show signs of age. take the weights from the old units and just install in the new sleaves, save some money with very little work.

Needs more adjustment length

Used for diving a dry suit in the cold southern California Pacific waters. Needed to be able to adjust weight to get optimal buoyancy and trim. Well made and never "leak shot" like some other fillable weights. However, as noted in another review, they do need an extra inch or two of adjustment. They are really tight over my dry suit, and I am not a big guy.

Great little weights

My wife needed ankle weights to get her trim perfect, but they were all too heavy... this allowed us to fill up our own ankle weights to exactly what she needed (using shot from a torn soft weight sack we already had). Just the ticket if you need lighter weights or want to really nail your trim.

Ankle Weights are AWESOME!

These ankle weights are extremely easy to fill and easy to clip and unclip. It was difficult to find "fillable" ankle weights that work well for someone with small ankles, but these are GREAT!

Exactly what I needed

Works great for me but I've got skinny ankles. Not a lot of room to adjust outward. Needs another inch or so to the adjustment strap.

Do your feet always seem to rise above you when diving? Some divers need to compensate the buoyancy of their legs with ankle weights. Diving with ankle weights, reduce leg and fin buoyancy, minimizes back stress for a safer, more comfortable dive. Ankle weights keep fins submerged at the surface and add stability during underwater projects such as photography or dive instruction.

Ankle weights are an important part of a diver's total weighting system. If your legs are too high, then there will be increased drag. When your legs are too high this will slow you down and cause fatigue. Correct your position with ankle weights. Many divers, especially women, have short waists. The weights in your BC or on your weight belt are closer to your head than they are on divers with longer waists. Therefore, the weight, push your upper body down and your legs up, causing unnecessary drag, Ankle weights will take some of this weight off the waist area and will move it down to the ankles, putting your body in a correct horizontal position.

Dry suit divers frequently require ankle weights because the legs of a dry suit are filled with air. The result is the legs want to float up. Ankle weights add negative buoyancy to the ankles and help bring the legs down into a correct horizontal position. If you are one of these divers, this fill your own set of ankle weights, will cure those problems. Simply fill these ankle weight pouches with sand or lead shot up to 3 lbs. (1.36 kg) each, and fasten around your ankles, then watch your diving profile become more streamlined and efficient.

Ankle weights come equipped with durable side-release squeeze-style quick-release buckle to secure ankle weights around your ankles.
