The buckle threads onto standard 2" (5cm) nylon webbing, when you snug your weight belt to your waist prior to submerging underwater the spring-loaded buckles spring stretches-out to keep the belt snug. As you descend, and your wet suit compresses a normal weight belt becomes loose. Not the belt equipped with this "depth compensating" buckle. It's spring compresses with your wet suit continuously compensating for the loss of thickness and cinching your weight belt up.
