DAVID J : The specs say it’s waterproof but the reviews say otherwise. Which is it?VICTORAI B : It is incredibly thck and works well to absorb water from your first dive. You can turn the whole thing around and inside out so the dry section is then on the inside. It doesn't replace an anorak in driving rain but this is by far the best post-dive garment I have ever used. If you are in a driving rain you may want to toss one of those plastic overcoats or a poncho over it. It also dries fairly quickly.JOSEPH J : It's wind proof / waterproof but it's fleece so it's not like a rain jacketJOHN M : I wear it between dives while on the boat. Great for those chilly surface intervals!

This coat is great for those chilly surface intervals when doing multiple dives, whether boat or shore diving. Roomy enough that you can change into dry clothes at the end of the day.

Great for windy surface intervals.

Great addition to any cooler or temperate diving gear bags. If there's any length boat ride or prolonged surface time in exposed conditions, this SurfFur parka is priceless! Protects from wind and light rain or spray and you can get under it right away and strip away any thermal protection while you're wearing it, staying warm and protected from the elements while doffing wet gear. My size medium fits my frame well while allowing room for changing underneath. I usually wear a Large size in men's US sizing. Originally ordered the XL, based on sizing recommendations but I sent it back for the medium. No issues with the exchange and the replacement came that week! The medium weighs about 3 lbs.

Warmer Surface Intervals

I dive wetsuit in the PNW and this helps keep me incredibly warm during surface intervals and also does a great job of blocking the wind, again keeping me nice and warm between dives. This also allows me to change into and out of my wetsuit at the dive site while keeping warm. The hand slots in the pockets make changing far simpler, and is better than the old-school was of trying to change under a towel wrapped around your waist.

A cold water must have

A great coat and perfect for cold water diving. Follow the size chart and you want the coat to be a bit big so that you can change in it.

Very Warm and Lightweight.

Comfort is VERY important to me, so it's very important to stay warm during surface intervals between temperate water dives. This parka does exactly that for me. I bought a small although I'm a perfect schmedium and this parka still has lots of room to even change into and out of my wetsuit. I'm so happy I got this.

A changing room and a warm coat!

I used to use a mumu... two beach towels sewn together. Divers who used to be on swim teams often have nice poolside parkas, but this is the first one I've seen that is heavy duty, reversable, and capable of standing up to Northern California conditions! I took it on a boat dive to the Channel Islands and it was great. I'll bring it to the beach with me for shore dives too.

Great product!

Used it for the first time in temps from miod thirties to mid forties on opening day at Dutch Springs. Keep me warm before and between dives. Blocked the wind well. Definitely recommend it.

Good find for cold diving

Very useful for cold and windy weather conditions for warming up while wet between the dives. The size is accomodating, i.e. you can wear wetsuit underneath, though for thick wetsuits you should buy one size larger. The only con so far is that it is bulkier than I've expected.

great dive coat

I bought one of these before through the manufacturer and liked it a lot. I live in Ohio and used it as my coat on the way to the airport in the winter for a trip to Honduras. I was able to use it in Honduras after a night dive that I was concerned I might get cold on the boat. It does everything they say it will so don't be surprised it is supposed to be over sized. You are supposed to be able to change/get out of your wet suite with this on. It is a bit bulky especially if you are going to try to pack it, but over all a great coat. This coat was for my Girl Friend and she gets cold easy. She loves it!

Serves its purpose, but not stylish. Larger than you would think, so order small. A waterproof outer layer would be a big improvement. Pockets are dorky.

Love it!

I like my Surf Fur so much that I wear it even when I'm not diving. It's warm and not too heavy. Originally I bought a small but realized it would not be roomy enough to change under. [...]The medium is perfect for changing under, and the large slit pockets help for pulling clothes on and off.

Warm coat, needs a polyester outer shell

The Surf Fur is a nice, warm, long coat to restore one's core temperature during surface intervals between cold water dives. It would be better if it had a rainproof polyester outer shell for the boat ride back to shore. This would also make dog hair easier to brush off the coat; our dog's white fur really sticks to the fleece!
