I chose these saddles for their large surface area distributing the load over a larger section of the hull. I strapped the boat to the saddles as Yakima recommends by going around the hull through the saddle. I noticed that the boat moved around a lot while on the road since the saddles have a lot of flexibility in their attachment to the racks. This acts like a suspension cushioning the boat but allowing for more movement than I was comfortable with. I now use a second strap over the boat down to the rack which has solved the movement problem. I am now very satisfied with the system and I don't mind setting up the second strap. I have two pairs of saddles front and rear. I use the Hulley Rollers to load the boat from the rear over my trucks camper shell onto the two front racks.

Just added the fourth boat to my kayak fleet. Previously had the mako for my plastic sea kayak and have used them for about 10 years. They are still going strong. Bought another set to carry my wooden kayak. Appreciated the felt pads to protect the finish. The "new" single strap system is a nice upgrade for my prior version. Looking forward to many years of use out if the new set.

Fits my boat like a glove. After straps are secured tightly, my boat isn't going anywhere until I get to the water:) I really like that security.

I place an inflated Zodiac upside-down and take it off from the back of my SUV. The saddles fit perfectly.

I adjust carrier for either the 17' or the 11' kayak. Works great for both!

The Mako is great for fiberglass/kevlar boats. Lots of suport area and very secure. My boats have traveled from Maryland to the gulf of Maine in Mako's at sea in all conditions.

The Yakima Mako Saddles cradle your kayak's hull with soft, grippy pads to keep it in place during transport. This half-set is the ideal companion to the Hulley-Rollers (sold separately see SKU: YAKHR), providing a firm support once your boat is loaded. Or combine two Mako Saddle half-sets for a reliable car top kayak carrier. The Mako Kayak Saddles connect to round or square bars. A pair of Yakima Mako Saddles supports one end of your boat. The soft, grippy saddle Dynaflex pads flex and hold your kayak in place without scratching it. Saddle pads flex to fit any rigid hull shape. A soft polyester pad with a self adhesive back attaches to the saddle protecting the finish on your boat. The Mako Kayak Saddles includes one 16' (40.64cm) Yakima padded Heavy Duty Strap for tie-down and 1 Bow/Stern Tie Down. The Saddles measure (H x W x L) 6.5" x 8" x 10" (16.5cm x 20.3cm x 25.4cm), weighs 3lbs (1.36kg), come with instruction sheet and are covered by a limited lifetime warranty.
