Questions & Answers

Christian V : How long are these fins and I wear size 12 with 3mm booties do you think XL will work?JOHN C : I wear a 12 wide shoe and with booties these are perfect fit.ATILIO A : Yes , is good oreadi.TAZ G : I am not sure on sizing, you should call customer care. I am thinking you're a gent and I'm a gal. I think I got small and wear a 6 bootie. These are shorter, which I love for walking, less likely to flick and hit underwater nature. Width gives power.ROSS R : I'm not sure of the actual length. However, I wore my medium-sized gorillas with size 10 rock boots when I was a public safety diver... I think large is probably the right size for you.
Gregory H : Can anyone answer weather the newest gorilla version has the soft rubber infused non-slip footplates like the latest regular Seawings? Have yet to see an answer or picture showing one netwide! ThanksKEVIN F : The 2016 Gorillas had them. We have not received the 2017 version yet. But we were not told of any changes to them, so we assume they will remain the same.
DEAN J F : are these the latest design with Re-engineered footplate with co-molded Grip Pads provides a dependable non-skid grip on wet surfaces?KEVIN F : Yes, we are selling the current design.MARSHALL B : I have had mine for several years and have not really noticed. I think like most duck feet they are not made for walking so I am always careful on wet surfaces.
DANIEL M : Are the orange Gorillas now available to the general public? There was a time you had to be an instructor or divemaster to get them.KEVIN F : Yes, the Orange is available to anyone.
BETSY B : I have original Seawings (black). I have heard they can snap, so far so good. My knees are going, so I just bought a pair of Mares Split fins thinking they'd be easier on my knees. I was having to kick so much more, I was going through air faster. Nothing seems to match Seawing for the ability to rocket. Any recommendations on fins for bad knees that won't compromise speed and efficiency? I like open heel springs for easy on/off. Any thoughts on Aqua Lung Hot Shots?BILL L : Besty, I haven't tried the Aqua Lung Hot Shots, I do own and use the Sea Wing Gorilla fins and the Atomic Split fins. In heavy currents use the Gorillas, in recreational diving I use the Atomic's. As you have experienced not all fins are created equal, if you have a favorite dive destination or dive shop they will loan you a pair of fins from their rental equipment so you can feel the difference before you purchase. In split fins the stiffer the outside rails equals more thrust. Keep your Sea Wings for when you know your swiiming into heavy currents, and your split fins for your more relaxing dives.GREGORY P : I have over 2500 dives with these fins. Avoid the Gorillas as they are stiffer. If they do ever start to show signs of wear they are warentied for life. I have broken three pairs, but they were all the older versions, the new version is bulletproof but still backed by a lifetime warranty and there is no BS just send them in, or take them to an authorized scuba pro dealer anywhere in the world and they are replaced on the spot!! As far as split fins, when people start kayaking with split paddles Ill try them!!

Great for becoming a Pro

I bought these fins and I can see a huge reduction in my SAC rate. They hurt a little on the top of the foot because this part is very hard. The navigation under water is very easy.

Good product.

Moving from a very flexible split fin to these. They are very stiff. They require a fair amount of effort, but you are rewarded by excellent propulsion. To prevent cramping, I had to learn some new techniques. The stiffer fin allows for more technical moves than something more flexible; like finning backwards. The fit is good. Seem to be high quality. Very light weight. I like the bright orange color, as I'm easy to spot from a distance. I like them, and will continue to use them.

Gold Medal to you guys

I got the Nova fins but had to return it for a better size. Then I got them, liked the high-tech design but returned them in order to get more stiffness - which means going for the top-of-the-line GORILLA fins. All of the fins were easy to return, quick to get the refund, and easy to order again. Now I have what I want, so thanks.

Ditch The Flexy Fins!

These were shockingly stiff on my first dive as many have mentioned. I almost gave up on them right away and gave them away to my guide as a tip. The next day I dove with them first instead of second and really enjoyed them/figured them out. I switched back to my Twin Jet Max’s for the second dive and felt like I had horrible noodles attached to my feet and had zero power. These things are great you just need to give them some time and learn how to work with them not against. I can tell once I get used to them I’ll never want to use anything else. Great fin for sure!

Great and very visible fin

A great fin! I use the orange Seawing Nova Gorilla fins when I am teaching. It makes it a lot easier for students to see and follow me as we do exploration dives in low visibility water.

Great fins!

Great fins! Solid control good response. Firmer than the regular Seawings and I find them to be much better. Good for open circuit divers wearing single tanks and/or with a pony bottle. Not enough thrust to drive doubles.

Great Power and maneuverability

As an Instructor I always wore the split fin as the dive shop I instructed required me to wear them to sell them. It's near impossible to perform the back kick or frog kick with split fins and frankly I cant stand them and I've tried every brand. If your an instructor, dive master, photographer, or videographer you need power and maneuverability. That's what these fins were designed for. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is they were stiffer than I imagine and I like stiff fins for power. If you not sure you want stiff fins I would go with regular seawing nova and not the gorilla.

Hawaii with new fins endless summer

We are on our way to Hawaii June 11 to September 17 to skin dive daily and scuba twice a week. I paired the fins with seasoft sunrays excellent combo. Alex on youtube gives these fins best rating.. The fin material and straps are excellent. The orange color is cool.

Great stiff fin with a lot of power

The Seawings came highly recommended. Great pair of fins. I have a difficult time with ScubaPro fins because my foot had a high profile on the top. If this is the case your you the size that SHOULD fit you will likely hurt and you'll end up with red marks on the tops of your feet. I tried a size larger and they fit my booties fabulously without hurting my feet. You may have to play around with the sizing a bit based not only on the length of your foot, but the thickness as well. I only wish I had gotten them in orange!

Awesome pair of fins

I was reluctant to switch from my Twin Jet Max's after they were stolen because I love a flexible fin that is easy on the knees. After a few dives I'm glad I jumped on these. They provide a great amount of power but are super comfortable. I'm not a fan of blade fins but these are a great compromise. I don't think I'll ever go back to splits! -Jason PADI OWSI

Great fins if you have proper finning technique...

The Gorilla versions of the Seawing Novas are much stiffer than the regular Seawing Novas. That is by design! Those complaining these are too stiff have bought the wrong version! These are very good fins if you have proper finning technique. I can frog kick, scissor kick, helicopter kick, backfin no problem with these fins because they are sufficiently stiff. If I really need to move, one scissor kick and I am gone. The bungee straps are great, significantly easing putting the fins on as you race off on a panga to the next site. They are also very durable. I have over 300 dives with mine and besides some scratches still perform like the first day. They are also quite light so they are my go to fins for warm water diving. I use different fins for drysuit diving.

don't really know how to rate these

I put 4 stars because I had to put something but really I have no rating for the fins because I chose the wrong product for my use and that is my failing, not the fins. Be aware THESE FINS ARE EXTREMELY STIFF. I dove with Twin Jets for several years and the last something over 1000 dives I have used Twin Jet Max fins and loved both of them. The old stiff Dacor fins I had before the Twin Jets gave me leg cramps. So the Scuba Pro fins were a blessing. I really don't know what posessed me to get the Gorilla's. It was a bad choice on my part. They are board stiff like my old Dacor's. If you are a fisically very fit diver with strong legs and a powerful kick that likes to swim, swim, swim during the dive these fins may be for you. For a pudgy old diver (that still manages to get in over 200 dives a year) that likes to dink along and look at macro, mak3 a better choice than I did. I'm giving them a little more time as I have been getting more used to them and adjusting my kick technique. But I suspect in another week ov diving they will get replaced.

Nice Design- Poor Perfomance an Quality

it helps in the sense of not having to do a lot of effort to kick, but it makes you go slow and also you can't apply al lot of pressure because it will bend. On time it will break, and it happened to me while going on a trip to Cozumel... I had to were cheap tourist uncomfortable fins. So they are not reliable at all. Big No! No! It can ruin your diving trip easily not to say it could cost more than that.

Too stiff!

When I got in the water, it felt like I had boards attached to my feet. "Downgraded" to the standard Seawings and am very happy.

Improve speed and efficiency

I dive with a police underwater search and recovery team. We dive in coastal waters and fresh water. These fins can handle strong current and heavy surge. Some of the guys have lost fins in deep water. These bad boys float AND are guaranteed. I've also been able to improve my times on my physical quals that we do every three months. Love these fins!

Amazing fins!!

Hands down the best fins I have used! I have used these with my drysuit boots in cold water and wet boots in warm water. Great power and speed with little effort. I used to be the slowest diver in my group but people now say they have to work to keep up with me. Able to do a variety of kicks with these fins as well. Well worth the investment. Be aware these fins are positively buoyant, may be a plus or a con for some.

Great Fins .. Worth the investment

These fins replaced 20 year old Mares (the first generation of quatro fins .. They were double back then). Took a few visits to the pool to get used to them and appreciate the benefits the design and "stiffness" offer in the water. Bottom line, they are strong, efficient and get me from point A to point B quicker and more efficient than any other fin I had in the past. First 2-3 hours in these fins had me doubting the investment .. Took a lot of water time to get my legs accustomed to the most effective way to drive them in the water. 25 years ago I was given a pair of Aqua Lung rocket fins .. It took me weeks of water time to get used to those and appreciate them .... So, to the doubters, give them time .. They are stiff and it takes practice to get them do what they were designed to do. Only thing I would change .. Make the strap adjustable .. Allow user to set how tight or loose the straps are ... Shoe size 10. - large with 3mm boot feel perfect

Never thought they could improve perfect

By Piper D.

When scuba pro finally fixed the original flaws with this fin, I.E. the fin breaking at the pivot point with the old top cut design, I broke 4 pairs, each time at exactly 75-100 dives. After the re-design, flat top of pivot, I had put over 200 dives on that pair when the new Gorilla came out. I have dove about 35 dives so far with this fin, it is what it says it is, a stiffer version of the seawing nova, better engineered for improved frog kicking and bigger guys with stronger legs. The successor to the famous Scubapro Gorilla fins of the 1980s, this new version of the award-winning Seawing Nova has been fine-tuned to provide a slight increase in stiffness and snap. They give you more power, more speed and even better frog-kick-ability while at the same time ensuring they still offer the legendary comfort and efficiency of Seawings! The Gorillas are ideal for those diving in demanding conditions! The secret to the Gorilla Nova design is the articulated joint that allows the blade to pivot allowing the entire blade to generate thrust. Pivot control technology ensures the most efficient angle of attack is maintained no matter how hard or softly you kick, generating thrust without drag or wasted energy. Gorilla Nova incorporates clean water blade geometry for optimum propulsion. Water is free to flow onto the working section of the blade, resulting in drag reduction and a thrust increase. Variable pivot control ribs ensure that the most efficient angle of attack is maintained across all strengths of kick.

Comfort is felt with Gorilla's ergonomic foot pocket with extended heel plate that insuring ultimate power transmission with less leg strain. Durable Monprene construction makes Seawing virtually indestructible and wing tips arc upwards, increasing high-speed stability. Fins have marine quality bungee heel strap with custom adjustment system for total comfort and convenience. Fins are available in multiple sizes and colors.
