Questions & Answers

Sheila C : Show battery installation. How do batteries go in + and -?Mario C : one side + up the other + down. There are engravings on the inside just where the batteries go in.
Sean M : where's the on/off switch?Matthew R : This light is turned on and off by rotating the front cap that contains the light bulb and lensFRED M : There is no switch. You screw in the lens holder to make contactDAWN G : It is a twist on/off at the base by the bulb. This light is not very bright...just fyi
Merle D : Where can I buy the Blub assembly for a TEC 40 Flashlight???Mario C : Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not have it at the moment, and as i dont have it on my website i cannot special order it. YOur best chance will be through the manufacturer . Hope you get it. http://www.princetontec.com/ 609-298-9331
L B : Can the overmold handle be removed?Darrel P : The overmold isn't designed for removal, but like anything that's an overmold, with enough effort I'm sure it could. My question would be why, as in the water it's the perfect grip. Last thing you want on a cenote or night dive, to lose your grip on the light.
Ted S : need a light for general reef diving, etc. in Belize first week of June. Is this good for crevice lighting, etc.?JOSHUA H : It's better than nothing, but wouldn't count on it lasting very long. Not very bright, either.. It is small and fits in a BC pocket well, though.JEFF J : I dive in the dark waters of Puget Sound and this light works for me to find fish on the wall and wreck dives here. It is small enough to make it easy to carry and has plenty of power. I actually prefer it to my C-4. You may also find it handy in Belize if you happen to loose power like we did in the Yucatan.MARTIN M : Good light for peeking in holes and under ledges, and a backup light for night dives. I like a bigger light for primary night dive light.Ted S : Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate the prompt feedback. At this price I picked up a couple (one for me and one for my son) and will give them a shot. Has anyone here dived Belize?MICHAEL W : It's agood quality light but since it has a screw bezel to turn the light on and off. You have to screw it to a point where the light goes off and then just a little more or the light might come on by it self if stored in a bc pocket other than that it's a great liteWALTER H : Great for general reef diving. It's compact and the price is just right. the LED is bright, but the beam is not adjustable. I would say perfect for Belize. Though you may want a bigger light with a wider beam for the Blue Hole. cheers!ROLLIN E : During daylight I really don't see much benefit to this light. Its good for pointing out something you are trying to highlight for your buddy, but doesn't do much for general illumination. The Princeton TEC 400 has a really bright beam, and is only slightly larger. The Princeton TEC could be your primary dive light, and it actually does illuminate crevice during daylight hours. Hope this helps! Enjoy Belize!

Princeton Tec flashlight

Good substantial construction. I think it will be a good choice for another Princeton Tech flashlight I had.

LIght Burned

The light lasted only one dive. In the second dive the light bulb was burned. Waste of money. The replacement bulb costs 50% of the initial value.

you get what you pay for, just spend more

I didn't really like this flashlight. It smells nice for some reason, probably the only thing good about it, funny how I should be rating its value as a flashlight, not as potpourri. The light is yellow, not white, it's really not bright at all, and is a really mediocre backup light. This should not be used as primary, you won't be able to see much at all. To get the most use out of this, when your primary light fails, use this light to get oriented and find your equipment, such as the power-inflator, and then safely ascend. That's all this light is good for- finding your own equipment and ascending. I would not recommend continuing the dive, or using the light to find your way back before ascending, no, just ascend and end the dive. You need something better, a backup light that can help you find your way back underwater. I would not recommend this, you really get what you pay for and in my opinion, just pay more and get something actually reliable and useful.

Do not purchase

I bought this light to take with me to Palau and not only was it not bright at all (honestly, when I turned it on I could never tell when it was on), but the flashlight flooded with water after about 3 dives and I could no longer use it. So now I have a broken flashlight. I do not recommend purchasing this light.

Fine until it flooded.

Decent little halogen light, but it flooded and got ruined during first week of fairly simple dives in Coz. Glad others have liked it, but I can't recommend it.

Handy

Used on about a dozen dives. Compact and rugged. Beam is too weak for serious use but adequate as backup.

Plan on using it for one dive trip only

Because it turns on and off by twisting the lens, it's bound to eventually leak when you twist it to far to turn it off. If you don't twist it far enough, the pressure from a deep dive will push against the lens will turn on the light, so you loosen it a bit more to shut it off. When you then surface, it takes on water. If it had a switch rather than a twist lens, it would be great. I threw both away after 1 dive trip to Socorro Island due to water damage.

This worked as advertised

This flashlight worked well but has a weak light. Didn't know what to expect but it worked the whole night (3 dives) and then some. The electricity went out in the hotel we were staying at and it worked for that as well. I would recommend for a back up but I plan to ge a brighter light.

Not much value for diving

I bought this light to replace a Techna 4 light and it is no where close to providing useful light. I bought one for all 4 members of my family that dives and none of us will probably use it to dive. I use it during day dives to illuminate holes and see actual colors. I needed to be about 6 inches away for any light effect. Very disappointed, but it will be a good light around the house.

Simply the BEST!

I LOVE this powerful little light! My son (who dives) gave me my first light and it throws a beam like nothing else on the market, when I needed to buy a new bulb I found LeisurePro and got an extra one for our sail boat.

Simply the BEST!

I Love this little light! You really should get this one!!! My son (who dives) gave me my 1st one and it throws a beam like nothing else! The bulb lasted almost 3 years, even though I use it a couple of times a week, when it was time to order one I also bought another light for our sailboat.

Nice backup

because of the twist on and off switch, light may come on when diving deep due to pressure on the lens.

Ok - not that bright

Purchased as a back-up for my rescue gear, not a great beam. Will only utilize for recreational diving.

Princeton Tec, Tec-40 by Princeton Tec

This is a replacement for my old Tec-40 which i used for 5 years under extreme salt water and dirty conditions before finally losing it - it appears to be just a good as the original although maybe a little harder to clean - great focused beam for seeing lines at night

Backup light

Great back up light.

Dive light

By NICK M.

The light is great for a bcd. It is rugged and reliable.

With the same ruggedness and rubber over-mold as the Impact XL, the Tec 40 with halogen bulb provides a warmer light underwater. This handheld is great for backup, or as a primary daytime light, as the warm light is phenomenal for restoring lost colors on the reef. With a classic dive light look and feel, the twist bezel activated switch prevents accidental on/off. This compact unit provides the highest power-to-weight ratio of any light in its class. The non-slip rubber grip ensures you'll be able to securely hold the light, even if you're diving at 330' (100 meters

The Halogen Lamp produces 28 Lumens of Brightness and provides a visible light beam to 354.3' (108 meters) on land. The light is powered by 4 AA Alkaline Batteries (included) that provide a 5 Hour Burn Time with a Focused Narrow Beam. The Tec-40 weighs 6.38 oz. (181 g) with batteries, comes with an Adjustable Wrist Lanyard, is Depth Rated to 330' (100 meters) IPX8, is made from high impact resistant polycarbonate plastic and rubber comes in multiple color choices and an owner's manual.
