The sole and the upper neoprene material are impervious to sand. But some sand can get through around the ankle. Great Tropical Dive Boot

I purchased these diver boots before a trip to Puerto Rico. They were awesome. [FYI: I am a size 10.5 mens, and I bought a size 10. They fit perfectly.] These boots were lightweight, and have a sturdy sole. I really can give me gear a beating, and I was a little concerned about how they would hold up. I was wearing them in the water and out. Frequently walking across dead coral beaches and rocks in them. The sole is thin, and you certainly feel everything you step up. But they protect your feet from scratches and from coral. Despite traipsing over islands and rocky terrain in these they were still good as at the end of the trip. Highly recommend.

Perfect for snorkeling

These are excellent for when not wearing a short wet suit, or non at all, but need to wear boot with your fins. It was perfect for when snorkeling in Jamaica.

Perfect little comfy bootie

These are the perfect little bootie for tropical waters. I have used them for boat diving and shore diving on both sand and shale, and a whole lot of beach-entry snorkeling. I have not had sand or rocks enter them. They are very flexible and have the feel of ballet slippers, and there are no zippers or hard parts to rub your wet feet, so no blisters. They also weigh next to nothing. I would recommend a heavier soled boot only if you're doing extensive walking over rough terrain and have tender feet. I am a women's US 6.5/Euro 37 shoe size, and the 4 fits me perfectly.

Mares 2mm Equator Boots are a versatile rubber sole comfy ankle high boot for warmer waters diving and water sports. The Equator is a slip-on-and-off design without zippers. Boot is made from 2mm nylon 2 neoprene which will keep your feet toasty warm in warm water conditions.
