This speargun packs a punch and is very durable and easy to maintain. The safety system is extremely easy to use with your thumb if you're right handed. Bands are easy to replace and purchase. The closed muzzle makes loading fast and easy. The hand guard is nice. This gun is also easy to hip load. The gun is built extremely well and very simple and if anything should ever break or get lost replacement parts are easy to find and cheap. The spear its self is threaded so it will take just about any 6M speartips and the spear is also very thick. It's damn near impossible to bend. There's a few reason I didn't give it 5 star's but don't get me wrong it's still a fantastic speargun. #1, the trigger pull is not adjustable and stiff. #2, it's not as accurate as an open muzzle in my opinion but it is way easier to load. #3, it loses momentum quick due to the heavy spear and the way the line is connected but apart from those 3 things it's great. I should note that the heavy spear adds some kinetic energy and at close range really works well on tough fish with thick skin. This gun is great near rocks or reef but not suitable in my opinion for longer shots on smaller fish.

i use this gun in the gulf of mexico around alabama and florida coasts. ive taken several fish in the 20-30lb range from snapper to grouper and AJ's with it. penetration is excellent. more times than not, i get a clean pass through and the wound channels can be down right nasty. often time it looks like the fish exploded as the shaft exits the fish. love my gun. ive had this gun for over 10 years and it still works like it did day one.

Very easy to use. Accurate. Triple bands give enough force for easy penetration.

I am a female hunter and this gun is very easy to use. It is accurate, light and appears durable. The only negative so far is that despite a good rinse the metal comonents of the muzzle and handle appear to corode slightly. Overall, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Great gun for the money - a best buy! Good range, easy to load, well built. Good starter gun that you can use a lifetime. When storing gun, it helps to take off extension butt so you can spray insides with oil. Otherwise the safety & trigger can get sticky for bit until you work it out.

I have been a Dive Master for years and have tried several more expensive guns and i always go back to this one. its simple to use and realize this is a GUN it needs to be taken care of. but if you do lose or break a part they are always easy to find. ** HINT ** spray your spear and channel (ONLY) with PAM no stick before you go and rub your bands with BAG BALM after you clean your gun before you put it away.

The Gun works great and is pretty powerfull. The only thing I don't like is its a little tricky getting the string wraped back up after shooting.

I dive for abalone and spear fish in north CA, and this gun is great anything from small sea trout to ling cod and halibut, one down side the metal ring on the spear that fits into the end of the gun, if your tip gets unscrewed you will loose it, but still a great gun.

The speargun is beautiful and very lightweight. I bought this as a x-mas gift for my husband, he hasnt got to use it yet because of rough stormy seas but cannot wait to try it out I am sure it will be all that and more.

I use this gun amongst rocks and reefs where a longer gun would be unwieldy. The gun has plenty of power and will punch through anything. The range is one of the few drawbacks along with the speartip. Buy a new rockpoint single flapper or icepick slip tip.

this is the best gun i have ever used!I have tired OMER and AB-Biller and they are like toys compared to this gun. This gun is very accurate and quiet. Maybe Sassy Pants is not used to using top quality guns. But this is one of the best gun I have ever used.To me JBL or Riffe are the best brands of spearguns. thats just my opinion.

Good gun for free diving. Not a lot of drag. Gets the job done. Nice for both around the jetties or the rigs offshore.

It's so strong that it will shake your hand when you use all the three slings and it will force the rope. I suggest changing the rope to a spring or reel.

This is my first spear gun, its very easy to use and it hits the fish very hard. Reloads quick and is netural in the water when loaded, and floats once the shaft is out of the gun. I keep it clipped to my float/flag so i can just let it go and deal with the fish and the shaft.

This was the first gun I bought. It did not work right from day one. I had been using my friends AB-Biller and the two guns do not compare. Very inaccurate and very noisy underwater. After one shot, all the other fish leave the area because of the noise it makes. I would recomend AB-Biller or OMER.

I bought this gun for shallow water and small fish. Works great, but if you decide to go after larger fish such as snapper, grouper, and cobia get a gun at least 50in or better. This gun dosent to have enough power for shots longer than 6-8 feet. I would only recomend this gun for small fish that are in close range.

Great Gun for New England waters

This is my first spear gun, its very easy to use and it hits the fish very hard. Reloads quick and is netural in the water when loaded, and floats once the shaft is out of the gun. I keep it clipped to my float/flag so i can just let it go and deal with the fish and the shaft.
The spear gun design that started it all, the JBL Magnum series of guns is probably responsible for more speared fish than all other spear guns combined. It's no wonder; as this durable and accurate workhorse features a 1 1/4" (3.2 cm) drawn alloy barrel, corrosion resistant hardened stainless steel trigger, shaft and point. Handle is constructed of two-piece cast aluminum, providing strength and ease of maintenance. The JBL740SA shaft is made from 17-4 spring stainless for durability and long life shaft is 40" (102 cm) in length with a 5/16" (8 mm) diameter. The Guns overall length is 47" (119.4 cm). The JBL Competition Magnum features three 9/16" x 22" (14mm x 559 mm) Hi-Mod JBL222 bands with 302 stainless wire wishbones. Tried and trusted, this is one hunting buddy you'll be glad to share a secret spot with. These guns are most suitable for spear fishing among reefs and rocks where heavy penetration is needed. The JBL Competition Magnum is designed for long range and heavy penetration where range is important and heavy penetration is required. The combination of shaft length and the 9" (23 cm) long butt extension make the gun easier to load.
The shaft is equipped with JBL's JBL831 Rotating Tri-Cut Tip. Let's get right to the point, these tips are designed to punch through even the toughest fish, penetrating thick skin and hard bone. Constructed of hardened 17-4 stainless with a razor-sharp finish they'll make short work of just about any game fish. Low-profile, stainless wings are quickly deployed and angled to grab tight and hold on. Sliding wing retainer allows for easy removal of fish.
JBL's patented (#4685239) rotating design allows for 360°-degree spin, providing greater holding power and minimizing the chance of your point unthreading from the shaft because of a fish "rolling" in battle. With the 2-5/8" (67mm) wing span and 3/8" (9.5mm) standard profile opens a large hole for easy passage of barbs through the fish, one shot is all you will ever need with this tip. Machined tri-cut point is the quickest way to put fish on the deck. Three cutting edges combined with a precision point make this tip extremely lethal. This tip is ideal for medium to large fish in open water or around rocks and reefs. The Gun is equipped with the JBL515 Shock Line. Sometimes we miss or we shoot a large fish and the recoil can pull the gun out of your grip, whichever the shock line will keep you in control. The Guns range is 20' (6.1 meters). The Gun is positively buoyant and is totally made in the USA.
