WILLIAM B : Will casting the transducer as Tom G suggests result in damaging strikes from fish?Juan A : The best way to remain incognito while covering an area to detect for fish, the best way I have found is to use a 10 lbs mono line with a heavy sinker on one end that measures 50 feet.. you through the line at least what may be 35 feet in front of you.. then run the line thru the holes on the transducer and when you lift the line it will carefully drive the transducer to the maximum length without scary off the fish.. you do have to do it slowly but it works pretty good in not making to much disturbance that will scare fish off.. remember.. that something that makes fish scatter more than just noise is shadows.. because fish will scatter if they think a bird of pray is going to dive after them..YAN G : Not recommended.

HalkEye Portable Fish Finder is one of the best

What I really like about this fish finder is that you can hook the tip to a 15 foot paint pole and aim at an angle towards the water bottom and detect fish around ponds and shorelines of lakes.. great stuff and can measure depths pretty accurately..
