I bought this for my many backpacking and kayaking trips to keep my GPS and phone charged. I also purchased the flip 24. Last week i spent a week on the buffalo river and the set up worked perfectly like i was hoping. I was able to strap the charger to the top of my bag while on the river all day. Then after getting off the river and setting up camp i could recharge my Garmin and my phone. Was also able to recharge my headlamp too.

This is the second Nomad that I have bought - this one as a gift. Perfect for charging iPad and phone from sun just around the house. Have not taken it camping or backwoods. Nice little gadget to have.

Bought a month ago! Worked great to charge my flip and straight to phone during rifle season!

Nomad 5 & Flip 12 bought in 2019 and still performs. I use this charger regularly while on kayaking, bikepacking and hiking trips. My routine is to hang it from the top/ back of my pack/ pannier daily & charge the Flip 12 first & the direct charge my phone, InReach or watch. In Australia we have no trouble with high UV, maybe that's why it works so efficiently? The Flip 12 is small and can only charge my phone from flat to 70%, but that's all I need. I could have bought the bigger chargers, but I love how the 12 sits almost flush with the back of the panel. The solar panel is super robust. It gets thrown around in the outside of my hiking pack and doesn't skip a beat. It also charges when exposed to water when kayaking & bikepacking. Honestly, when (if???) it's stops working, I'll buy another.

Keep in mind that it will work ONLY under direct sunlight. Under an overcast sky, or even during morning/evening low sun id doesn't work at all.

Regularly use mine with the flip12 to boost up my devices. With the semi-regular power outages we get here in TX it's super handy to be able to juice up power banks with this little guy. Charges my flip12 in just a couple of hours typically.

Fits on the back of a backpack I have with some carabiners so makes charging things in my bag easy when I?m on the go. I would definitely suggest if you hike or go to a theme park to pick one up.

So far it has served its purpose well and as long as there is sun out it recharges a Flip 12 or boast up your phone fairly fast. Rugged construction that has taken a beating well, with only a light scratch from some branches. Clip points make fastening it to your pack or tent handy, but the hole design requires larger carabiners. Only real grip would be weight if you are counting ounces.

The lightweight, compact nature of the solar panel makes it one of my favorites for throwing on the back of a pack during a hike or ski tour in the backcountry. The Nomad can easily charge a phone, headlamp or string of lights. While the kickstand is great for stable placement, it needs to be in a wind protected area to avoid blowing over.

I bought this for a recent hunting trip. Even when cloudy it kept my phone (and thus my GPS running strong. It survived multiple good falls and kept going strong. Super happy with it.

Sweet little solar panel

The Goal Zero Nomad 5 Solar Panel is a 5-watt panel that gives you the solar collecting capability needed to charge your phone anywhere the sun shines. A lightweight solution for on-the-go power from the sun, the Nomad 5 features 5-watts of monocrystalline in a rugged enclosure with an easy-to-use kickstand and USB output. The built-in kickstand clicks into place at multiple angles, so you can easily position your panel for optimal solar collection. Rugged and durable, built to last as long as your adventures do.
Solar panels do not hold a charge; they produce power when exposed to sunlight. For the best charging experience, pair with a Flip 12 power bank to keep devices charged on the go. Simply plug the Flip into the panel's built-in charging dock to charge the battery from sun while hiking, biking, or on the move. Then, use the Flip to charge your phone when the sun goes down. The Nomad 5 is great for charging things like: Headlamps, phones, other smaller USB devices and Goal Zero Power Banks. USB Port: 5V, up to 830mA (5W max). The Goal Zero Nomad 5 Solar Panel measures 9.5 x 7 x 0.8" (24 x 17.8 x 2.0cm), weighs 12.7 oz. (360g) and the maximum leg angle is 180 Degree
