What We Love About the Aqualung LEG3ND Regulators
Auto-Closure Device (ACD)
The revolutionary Auto-Closure Device (ACD) is one of the key features of the Aqualung LEG3ND scuba regulators. Available in the LEG3ND, LEG3ND Elite, and LEG3ND MBS regulators, the ACD keeps contamination and corrosive water away from the first-stage internal parts of all three regulators. With this ability, divers need not worry about water or silt entering the first stage.
The LEG3ND line’s ACD also keeps the inlet tightly shut to help maintain internal lubrication and ensure a clean, dry inlet filter. It makes these regulators safer for elevated percentages of oxygen. The ACD automatically closes as you remove the core from the cylinder valve so the first stage can maintain peak performance over time.
Equipped with an environmental dry seal system, the first stage on LEG3ND regulators keeps contaminants out of their main spring chamber. It prevents them from freezing when diving in icy conditions. This remarkable ACD feature, coupled with the environmental dry chamber in all three LEG3ND regulators, results in a first stage utterly sealed off from the environment.
During the first stage, LEG3ND regulators come with 2 HP and 4 MP ports arranged at an angle for the best possible hose routing. The LEG3ND, LEG3ND Elite, and LEG3ND MBS regulators also have ergonomically shaped DIN and yoke screws. Made out of a bi-material “Soft Grip” surface, both screws give you a better grip whenever you install or remove the first stage on any LEG3ND regulator.
Other ACD-related features across all three LEG3ND regulators include:

Exceptional Cold Water Performance via Aqualung’s Three Antifreeze Properties
Aqualung’s three antifreeze properties are also in the LEG3ND scuba diving regulators. The brand has revamped these properties to help LEG3ND regulators deliver exceptional cold water performance without compromising the diver’s safety.
LEG3ND, LEG3ND Elite, and LEG3ND MBS regulators feature a built-in dry chamber—the first anti-freeze property from Aqualung. The chamber isolates inner components from the exterior environments to keep them clean and dry. LEG3ND regulators also have deep ribs that create a large heat exchange surface area for less ice on the mechanism.
Aqualung also includes a new over-molded cap on the three LEG3ND regulators—a feature that prevents ice from forming over the external diaphragm.
Over-balanced Diaphragm
Besides first-stage features and antifreeze properties, LEG3ND regulators feature a unique, over-balanced diaphragm. The design delivers superior performance at all depths and in all environments. A plastic washer and a threaded retaining ring keep the diaphragm in place, while another exterior retainer holds the rubber purge cover in place.
The over-balanced diaphragm on the three LEG3ND regulators, combined with their two HP and four MP ports, is as ideal for deep technical diving as standard recreational diving. If their front piece accidentally gets dislodged underwater, LEG3ND regulators will continue to function with the diaphragm in place.
Pneumatically Balanced Second Stages
Compared to previous Aqualung regulators, LEG3ND regulators—including the LEG3ND Supreme Octopus—boast pneumatically balanced second stages that offer smooth and effortless breathing. The second stage on all LEG3ND regulators features new front cover opening channels that let water flow sideways over the diaphragm. Aqualung has widened these openings for 20% less peak inspiratory flow.
All LEG3ND regulators also come with a new over-molded exhaust cover made of elastomer. Elastomer gives the cover a “soft-touch effect.” LEG3ND regulators have an over-molded air purge, too. The purge’s wide surface area lets you purge easier, and its depth controller effortlessly gives you optimum airflow.
During the second stage, a Venturi switch helps prevent free flow at the surface and when the regulator is out of your mouth. Since the opening effort is already set in a fixed position, you won’t have to worry about adjusting any of the LEG3ND regulators underwater. The patented Comfobite mouthpiece on LEG3ND regulators will also help you say goodbye to jaw fatigue. This mouthpiece comes with a detachable and reusable clamp that lets you swap mouthpieces quickly and easily.
LEG3ND regulators are attached to 29” (73.7 cm) braided Aqua-Flex hoses with dual protectors to round out the second stage. These lightweight, flexible hoses cause minimal tugging on the Comfobite mouthpiece. Another patented feature that comes in handy during the second stage is the enlarged heat exchanger around the valve mechanism. The feature dissipates the cold caused by gas expansion while drawing in the warmth of the ambient water.
Master Breathing System for Simpler Breathing Adjustments
An exclusive feature of the LEG3ND MBS, the Master Breathing System (MBS) lets you control the Venturi effect and adjust the inhalation effort with a simple turn. The MBS adjusts airflow inside the regulator, changing the Venturi and the opening effort. The new system is simple and effective in altering the LEG3ND MBS regulator’s breathing performance.
