The Caribbean Sea is loaded with some of the planet’s most incredible diving, the least of which is Utila, part of Honduras’ Bay Islands. This amazing region is located at the southern end of the Belize Barrier Reef, well known to divers as the world’s second largest barrier reef. Over 80 different dive sites can be found around this island alone, and dive tourism is surging for good reason. In addition to a bustling display of colorful reef life, divers can look forward to coming across sea turtles, pilot whales, dolphins, and the majestic whale shark, depending on the season. Octopus, various species of rays, pipefish, and the exotic flamingo tongue snail are all regulars on these amazing warm water reefs. With consistently incredible visibility and some of the most breathtaking vistas you’ll find in the Caribbean, there’s plenty of inspiration on this lovely island. Check out this fantastic video shot recently in the underwater paradise of Utila, and start making plans to stick to that resolution to dive more in 2013!
