Over all a great communication tool.OSCAR B : This unit is a hand shaker , the cap keeps it from rattling it hooks up to bcd, if you want to get attention underwater to something to advise others you simply disconnect uncap and rattle. You can do it with one hand. But you do not bang on tank , there is another type of elastic unit for that type. Personal opinion the rattle type are best.CHRIS A : No need to bang it on the tank. The body is hollow, and has some metal that rattles around inside. The cap has a built in magnet, so when in place, it doesn't rattle (magnet holds the insides in place at the bottom).WILLIAM M : You can tap it on your tank, but it's a rattle, so it has bb's inside and it makes noise when you shake it. The cap is rubber but it has a magnet inside, which keeps the bb's from rattling when you don't want them to make noise. I typically keep it clipped to a d-ring on the front of my BC and just slide the cap off and give it a small shake to get the attention of other divers in the group. It works quite well.

Need to sell caps separately.

Great product, compact and the clip makes it easy to attach. Similar to other review in that the cap was lost, but in my case it was the 2nd dive. Any luck on finding a replacement? It’s incredibly annoying without the cap.

initial impression

Solid construction. Quiet when magnet is in place. Rattle sounds loud on dry land. Can't wait to try when I go diving again.

Love it

Mine came in black matte and it looks pretty sweet. The feeling is nice and the attachment clip has a nice touch. I am planing to burn a touch the line to make the knot stronger. Very happy with this product.

Rattle sticks work excellent

We've just used them for 2 dives a day for 3 days. They work great. Due to others issues with the rope coming loose, I put epoxy glue over the knots to ensure they wouldn't come loose. They are attention getters under water and no issues with them. I like them much more than tank bangers.

Nice piece of equipment

Small, easy to use, loud enough. I really like the clip used to secure it to your BCD. Unfortunately, I left mine on a rental and will have to purchase another. Read another review that stated the user lost the magnetic cap. It would be nicer if they could better secure the cap but I retied mine with better knots and had no issues.

Works well....but

Great idea, BUT the magnetic cup was lost on the first dive, linyard was poorly tied. Now comes the question: where can I get a replacement? Other than that it is good product: compact, loud well made.

Very quiet sound.

We ordered this because my wife doesnt like to use a carabiner to tap her tank for an underwater noise signal. It clipped on a D-Ring and was easy to use and stow. The noise was not terribly loud but produced a distinctive noise so we always knew it was her originating the signal. Good product at good pricepoint.

Must have active safety device

I consider this as a "must have" safety device for every diver - along with the safety marker bouy, wistle, mirror and writing slates. Whenever you see that your buddy runs away or to bring his/her attention or to let people know "I'm around" when a visibility is less than perfect - this is the device to be used. It attaches to just anything, closer to the octopus - in an easy to reach even with eyes closed and/or while wearing thick gloves, area. It provides a loud bell-like signal which is well heard within 20-30 feet. The only smal beware/drawback I'd admit - it's that the device's silencing cap is made of highly magnetic material tehrefore if/when you're using compass - make sure the device is far enough or better - just replace the cap with something made from just rubber, no magnets around (yes - it'll allow then some weak sound to come off of the device when your body shakes :-))
