Bill M : Will this knife corrode? I plan to use it in salt water to put lionfish out of their misery after spearing them.DANIEL V : Most dive knives are expected to be exposed to saltwater. That being said it is not made of titanium so you ARE more susceptible to corrosion. Be aware and clean well after each dive, especially in the joint. Side note the Recon is extremely large. Unless you need a sward you might be better of with the FogCutter XJAMES F : I have noticed some light, surface layer corrosion on mine. I have owned mine for about 3 years.TROY K : Not sure. I have only used it a couple times. It shows no signs of corrosion though. It is an amazing knife and the scissor function is flawless and will literally cut a piece if thin paper. Hope this helps... :)THOMAS G : Bill M, if by corrode you mean rust it depends on how well you maintain your knife. Being that it is stainless steel it will rust if not properly cleaned, oiled, and dried. However, if you buy the recon with the black finish the black finish does prevent a lot of corrosion because it has a special coat. hope this helped. P.S. Shopper : Hi. Is there much of a concern for rust forming at the scissor joint on the heel of the blade? The screw or rivot (whichever it is) appears to be a jackpot for rust to form (or is it treated like the blade is?) - just wondering if my speculation is right or not. WILLIAM C : I have had rust form on those parts, but if you clean the knife well after each use, there is no problem with rust. XS Scuba Fogcutter X(Large) Recon Knife Review - Scuba Gear Reviews

This knife is well worth the price. The shealth that comes with it is also very functional and holds the knife SOLIDLY in place, even when rigged upside down - I have mine rigged inverted on my left PFD strap. Makes for an always ready and rapid pull when I might need it on the boat to quickly sever the boat anchor for example, or to fend off a Sea Lion when out on the kayak.

Good knife for cold water diving

The knife is large enough that you can actually feel it and use it with 5mm or thicker gloves on. The line cutter works great and the shear feature is great.

Perfect knife

Large which makes it easy to grip and use. Came in very handy when I got caught in a net. Sharp blade cut the net easily. Glad I had it.

Very good tool.

I have this knife in the solid black version. When I got it, I put a thin coating of o-ring grease all over the metal parts. I have seen NO corrosion whatsoever. I also use it on lionfish, cutting fishing line wrapped around sponges and coral, etc. Best knife/tool I have ever owned.

Needs Care for - Great Item

The knife is a Great item. The only downside is - you have to care for it carefully or it will rust. My knife rusted on me after only 2 dives. I'm sure the knife is great - I just did not care for it properly.

Two tools in one!

A great knife, and an upgrade for me from the original fog cutter. The recon is a little longer, which turns out to be more annoying that useful. The black coating on the blade has helped inhibit rust, which was a problem with the fulcrum on my original fog cutter. All in all, a great knife!

The XS Scuba FogCutter Recon Knife is a unique knife and scissors designed divers' tool. That is the best way to describe XS Scuba's FogCutter Recon Knife. Knife/scissors are made of chromate treated 420-stainless-steel with a black oxide finish, for exceptional rust protection and superior durability. The blade and scissors will give you years of maintenance free service. The divers tool has an overall length of 11" (27.9cm) with a blade length of 6" (15.2cm).
