The Garmin Descent G1 has a sapphire crystal with a durable fiber-reinforced polymer bezel and case. The G1 is quick-fit watch band compatible (22mm) and comes standard with a silicone wrist band. The instrument measures (L x W x D) 1.79 x 1.79 x 0.6" (45.5 x 45.5 x 15.2mm) and weighs 2.15 oz (61g). The included wrist band range is 5" to 8.82" (128mm to 373mm) and with the optional extra-long silicone band it has a range of 5" to 14.7" (128mm 373mm). The G1 has a custom two-window designed monochrome, sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display that measures 0.9 x 0.9" (23 x 23mm) with a resolution of 176 x 176 pixels. Battery life is up to 25-hours in dive mode, up to 21-days in smartwatch mode, up to 48-days in battery saver watch mode, up to 26-hours in GPS mode, up to 56-hours in maximum battery GPS mode and up to 27-days in expedition GPS activity mode. The G1 has a memory/history of 32MB.

The Garmin Descent G1 clock functions are time/date, GPS time sync, automatic daylight savings time, alarm clock, timer, stopwatch, and sunrise/sunset times. In health monitoring mode it has wrist-based heart rate (constant, every second), daily resting heart rate, abnormal heart rate alert (high and low), respiration rate (24x7), pulse OX blood oxygen saturation (spot-checked, during sleep, all day), fitness age, body battery energy monitoring, all-day stress, relaxation breathing timer, sleep, sleep score and insight, hydration and women's health (in Garmin Connect), and health snapshot modes.

The G1 sensors are GPS, GLONASS, GALILLEO, Garmin elevate wrist heart rate monitor, barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, thermometer, depth sensor and pulse OX blood saturation monitor. Daily smart features are connectivity Bluetooth, ANT+, Connect IQ (downloadable watch faces, data fields, widgets and apps), smart notifications, text response/reject phone call with text (android only), calendar, weather, battery saver (customizable low power watch), controls smartwatch music, find my phone and watch, Virb remote, smartphone compatibility (iPhone, Android), pair with Garmin Golf App, and Garmin Connect Mobile and Garmin Pay.
