Review Summary

Great fins. I use them over stockingfoot waders or booties (hot weather, no waders) while fishing from a float tube. Good balance of (1) flexibility for easy leg movement in all directions and (2) rigidity for thrust. Quality construction, robust materials, great fit and finish. I wear USM 9-9.5 shoes, and the regular size fits well when I wear 5mm neoprene socks plus a thin pair of cheap water shoes.

ATTN New Divers: If you're new to diving then you're going to cling to other divers' reviews. We've all done it. The problem I've found is the typical diver on these sites is that most of these folks are not experienced, and they tend to leave negative reviews based on one bad experience that was most likely a result of renting or borrowing gear that was not meant for the type of diving performed. Just like Amazon reviews, you must take all these reviews with a grain of salt (even mine). Dive fins come in all shapes and sizes and just like regulators, masks, and BCDs they don't fit or perform the same for everyone, and they aren't made for every type of diving so when someone says "they're not for diving" what they are really saying is 1.) they're not appropriate for my style of diving, or 2.) I dive a whopping 1-2 times a year if I'm lucky, so drink from my fountain of limited knowledge. Oceanic Viper2s are great dive fins for recreational diving. True, they don't have a lot of power because they're not stiff like a Seawing Nova or JET fin but unless you're always fighting a current where you dive, that's a good thing. A stiff fin's tradeoff is a greater chance of cramping and greater air consumption if you're out of shape. I've been diving for many years and have thousands of dives. I've owned many fin styles and my Viper2 is always been my "go-to" fins. The ONLY complaint I have about these is the heel strap that isn't the bungee style, but that's an easy fix if you want to change it but it's by no means a deal breaker. For $89 you're not going to go wrong. I don't know what Mr. T's diving profile is but to bash these by saying they're not for diving but for snorkeling is just a misleading comment. In summary...If you aren't doing any Technical diving, Drysuit diving, or in an area known for strong currents these are great fins for 98% of your recreational diving (Shore and Boat). I don't personally recommend them for snorkeling because these are a tad too big for kicking on the surface face down.

These fins are not for diving. Great for snorkeling.

The Oceanic Open Heel Viper 2 Fins are ready to propel all of your aquatic adventures. Ideal for any skill level but they still pack a punch with the performance and aesthetics of an elite model. The Viper 2 includes a precision blend of hydrodynamics for ultimate comfort, efficiency and performance. The Flexible Power Thrust Channel and enhanced channel rails direct water flow off the tips of the fin without allowing water to spill from the sides of the blade and now provide uncompromising power and efficiency at a great value. But Oceanic didn't stop there. Fins are manufactured from a composite material consisting of blended of thermal plastic rubber (TPR) and polypropylene.
Power vents reduce stress while accelerating water over the blade. Oversized blade produces increased thrust and propulsion. Generous yet streamlined foot pocket fits a wide range of boot styles while significantly reducing drag. Extremely lightweight for increased performance and ease of travel. Open Heel features easy adjust quick-release buckles. New features also include a polished blade and redesigned performance rails to give the Viper 2 a much-needed update. Also available in Full Foot Design (see SKU: OCNF2VPF). Fins are available in multiple sizes and colors.
