Questions & Answers

STEPHAN M : I'm going to be doing a lot of snorkeling in the Bahamas this summer, probably about 30 dives. Is this an adequate snorkel for a trip like mine?ROBERT M : This is an excellent snorkel for that. I bought this for my wife and I who both dive and snorkel. I was impressed enough that I bought 4 more for my grown children. They are comfortable to use, trouble free, and stay dry in choppy water. If mine were to ever be lost or broken I would buy this snorkel again without ever looking at another model.JAMES G H : I have this snorkel and have used this model for several years. Yes this snorkel will definitely be adequate for snorkeling in the Bahamas. I use mine while on the surface before or after SCUBA diving, and have snorkeled with it, too. The materials are high quality. It has a purge valve that works well and makes it easier to empty the tube if you get it filled with water. I recommend this.ROBERT H : With about eight snorkel/dive trips in the last ten years, I've tried quite a number of snorkels. If my Impulse 2 was lost or broken, I'd look for another right away. It is by far the best snorkel I've used. (Including the Impulse 3, which I found to be a step backward.) It has held up well to lots of abuse. You won't be sorry you got it. As an aside, I was a Navy jet pilot. The annulus reminds me of the same kind of technology used in high-bypass jet engines. Clearing the tube is easy, but generally only needed when diving down. Waves breaking over the tip just bypass the breating tube and exit via the bypass. Have a great time. We spent nearly two months in the Bahamas. Great snorkeling and incredible beaches. You'll love it all. RobertLINDA B : It is a good snorkel in that the mouhtpiece is super soft. But...my valve (half way up the snorkel) to prevent water from going in the snorkel tore from my blowing out (I am a female) and I was left with a snorkel that took on water. Cannot recommend it for that reason. But, my husbands worked perfectly.THOMAS N : My wife and I have been very happy with our snorkels. It is very easy to clear after finishing a short dive under the water and returning to the surface.STEPHEN D : The Aqua-Lung Impulse 2 snorkel is a great snorkel! I have been using it for 5 years and have found none better! Buy one, breath dry and love it!STEPHEN D : The Aqua-Lung Impulse 2 snorkel is a great snorkel! I have been using it for 5 years and have found none better! Buy one, breath dry and love it!ALAN A : I've used one of these for 10+ years, it's a very good device! Alan from FloridaSTEPHAN M : Thanks for the timely responses, gentlemen!MATT S : I have been using this snorkel for more than eight years now, and it is fantastic. I primarily use if for spearfishing in New England or Hawaii. Most of my friends have this one, or the older model as well, and all of us swear by it.PETER L : Short answer, yes. It is a little top heavy so it has a tendency to "flip" when not in your mouth. However, I think it is one of the larger bore snorkels so the air flow is great.
Shopper : Does this snorkel disassemble?LeisurePro S : Sorry, this snorkel does not disassemble. If you're looking for a snorkel that folds up and becomes nice and compact, check out <a href="http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/OCNSP.html?Search=op%3ddtSearch%26Term%3dpocket%2bsnorkel%26SearchFlag%3dall%26AdvSrchSortField%3dRelevance%26DescSort%3d0%26Description%3don%26Hit%3d1" target="_blank"> this Oceanic pocket snorkel</a>.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Eric I : I've been using the Flex since it's inception. Easiest breathing snorkel I've found.LINDA B : Soft mouthpiece. The idea of a dry snorkel was interesting. It became a very wet snorkel when the valve tore lose from the rim and my snorkel would fill with water with the slightlest wave or head motion. A big disappointment.NEIL B : Best dry snorkel there is.DAVID M : I used a smilar unit as a rental and liked its feel, size, and performance. Great price as well. Very happy with my choice.

Upper valve blows out.

I was a big fan of the original Impulse. I bought the Impulse 2 after my Impulse went diving without me and took my mask with it. When I tried to clear the Impulse 2 the upper valve kept blowing out. There is just the slightest rib below the valve to hold it in, and it's not enough to keep it in place. I returned it and bought a different model.

So so

The diaphragm just under the top of the snorkel has a tendancy of blowing out creating a wet snorkel but the replaceable mouthpiece is a huge benefit

Great air volumes

I have used this snorkel for years, I can get a lot of air volume when breathing in getting ready to dive which is important to me. It has never been a dry snorkel, so you can suck water at times. Most all the "dry" snorkels I have tried do not allow me to get the volume of air I require prior to a dive so I avoid them. This is a great snorkel for those who like to stay down requiring more air intake. Great for abalone diving.

Terrible Snorkel

Customer service at LeisurePro recommended it. Snorkel flooded so many times it was counterproductive. Small rubber stopper falls out all the time. Best part is LeisurePro won't take it back since I used it....funny, I wanted to buy the more expensive snorkel originally and got a bad product instead. Avoid the snorkel and in my opinion LeisurePro too.

good design

Used this item for snorkeling out on shore dives doing scuba and free dives spear fishing. The non flood chamber worked well and it was easy to clear. The physical size of the tube is a little large but that's due to the upper valve design, not a problem.

Good but not great

A good snorkle for calm to choppy waters. This is my second, first died from pool use. the valves sometimes get stuck open wich leads to flooding. Never had that problem on my first wich lasted about 6 years in pool and ocean water. would recomend to any one looking for a quality snorkel.

It's hard to beat A good design.

The Impulse-2 clears very fast, without any effort, when submurging and surfacing. Great snorkle, tried and proven design.

Accurate representation

I have exclusively used this product since its initial release. It has proven to be durable for use in fresh (chlorinated) and salt water. I swim laps (1 mile daily) with a mask and the above snorkel so it receives heavy use. Not unexpectedly, the silicone and flexible tubing are adversely affected by the chlorine and require replacement after ~3-4 years. It is, quite frankly, the best snorkel I have ever used!

Falls apart

I bought 3 of these based on using the original impulse. Everyone has regularly had the flap ring fall out. Put them back and they last 2 or 3 dives before I have to fix them again. had to change out the keepers after first dive. Sometimes simple is better. The keeper is way to complicated.

Very good snorkel; would buy again

A very good snorkel. I have used the Impulse for several years and I find that being able to take it apart to clean and store for the off season is a big plus. I now own two of these; one for scuba diving and one for exercising during the off season by doing laps in a inside swimming pool. Would recommend this to both novice and professional diver

Not bad at all

For being a first time diver, I got very lucky with my choice of snorkle. Switching from regulator to snorkle during my confined dives was a breeze compared to my other classmates. It cleared real easily and found the mouthpiece to fit quite nicely. Nothing to complain about here, will definitely be a staple in my dives to come

Excellent snorkel

I bought 2 of these for my husband and I to use on our first snorkeling trip in Barbados. They worked great. Other people on the trip were complaining about getting water in their mouths using the snorkels provided by the outfitters. Maybe a little difficult to purge, but we are beginners??? We loved them.....Very comfortable mouthpiece

great snorkel

I like the older snap on to the mask keeper. I dislike the dry snorkels because I like to dive under and always want air after I purge at the surface. This snorkel purges great, and is very reliable. I now own 3.

Tried & True Design

My wife and I have been using this snorkel for years. I don't find it to be the best looking design out there but every time I try another snorkle, I end up going back to the Impulse. It breaths easy and stays dry. I like the button design of the keeper, but it will strech over time and the snorkel will start to slide down the keeper. I just bought a few spares from Leisure Pro. You can spend much more on another snorkle, but I'm my opinion, your not going to get any better performance for the extra dollars.

Great snorkel!

I bought my first Impulse snorkel in 1995, and still use it! I have tried many different snorkels over the years and have decided that this is the finest snorkel available. I like the comfo-bite mouthpiece and the flex feature. Stays dry and clears easily. Never had a problem.

Excellent snorkel!

A great snorkel at a very good price. Excellent comfortable Comfo-Bite mouthpiece. Stays dry. Easily attached / detached from mask strap by bottoning / unbuttoning, no need to disassemble mask strap. Effective purge. Another review described as being way too floppy.. perhaps a bit, in my opinion, but for me, was really not a noticeable issue. This quality snorkel is truly a great value! I don't think it will disappoint!

Terrible. Still in the boxes.

This product was a real bust. We would have ordered the non-flex design from you when we immediately saw that these wouldn't work for us but didn't have time to wait for delivery. We did by other Aqua Lung snorkels that we really like from a dive shop in Pacifica, CA.

Best snorkel out there, period.

I haven't used many snorkels, but I've used enough to know that this is definitely the best snorkel out there. It's comfortable, easy to use, and doesn't get in the way when you're underwater.

Since its introduction in 1989, the Impulse Snorkels have been the bestselling snorkels in the world. The Impulse snorkels feature a patented upper valve, a two-drain system and Aqua Lung's patented Comfo Bite mouthpiece. The Impulse comes in Flex and Non-Flex versions. The Impulse 2 uses a two-valve system. If a wave breaks over the snorkel, the patented, upper, annular valve directs most of the water out before it even reaches the mouthpiece. Any water that does get past the annular valve drains out the lower valve. The reservoir located below the mouthpiece keeps breathing path clear of excess water. In the rare event that you need to clear the Impulse 2 Snorkel, almost no breath is needed, all it takes is an easy puff. Patented Comfo Bite mouthpieces, which does not require the user to clench their teeth, eliminate jaw fatigue. An optional, smaller size Comfo Bite is available. Comfo Bite mouthpieces are replaceable. The flex model allows the lower unit to drop away for use with a regulator. Also, available in a non-flex, standard version.
