Shopper : Is this the SP-0101 or the SP-170 and what is the difference?darrick c : Hello, the SP-0101 comes in different colors. The SP-170 only comes in the all-white color.
Robyn S : How does this snorkel clip to your mask with the snorkel retainer supplied?  I own a prior version  of this snorkel.  The clip required you to undo your mask strap and thread one piece of the retainer onto it and then rethread the strap on the mask.  Then the piece on the snorkel had a round fitting that clips into the piece on mask strap.  I bought a new mask and would like to buy this updated Tusa snorkel but would also like to avoid this time consuming procedure.  It's a real nuisance!  Can someone describe what sort of mask clip Tusa supplies with this snorkel and whether it works well?  Thank you!darrick c : Hello Robyn, there is a slot in the snorkel clip that goes to the mask that is thin enough where you can slide the mask strap threw.

Donna C : I'm new to snorkeling, but from what I've read was convinced the Tusa Hyperdry Elite would be the best product. However, a dive shop person told me today that one problem with the dry-top snorkels is that your tongue can easily get sucked into the tube. Does anyone have any insight here? Also, with the dry top, even when submerged, can you breathe or do you have to keep surfacing for air?Angelo F : First off your tongue will not get sucked into the tube... Secondly you take a deep breath submerge; when you resurface exhale then breath.. You will ha e to resurface to get air.. This is snorkeling not scuba... When you submerge, the top is sealed off to prevent you from inhaling in water and therefore you can no longer breathe through it.Ryan K : I own one of these snorkels and love it. I've also owned other dry top snorkels. I've been scuba diving & snorkeling for 12+ years. There is no way that your tongue could get sucked into the tube (Well, maybe it would be possible if you completely blocked off the air hole and attached a vacuum to the purge valve!!!) Seriously, I would reconsider shopping at a place with a salesperson who gave you that information. I highly recommend dry snorkels because you can't suck water into your lungs --- which, to me, is absolutely terrifying. As long as you keep the snorkel in your mouth, you can dive underwater, try to breathe in, and you won't get any water in your mouth... but you won't get any air either. It does not allow you to breathe underwater --- you have to resurface for air. A caveat (which should be common sense) is that if the snorkel is out of your mouth and already filled with water, you'll have to breathe out through the mouth piece to push the water out of the purge valve before inhaling. I hope this helps.RICHARD D : I have not experienced my tongue getting sucked into the tube. Perhaps one should practice breathing exercises with the snorkel to discern if the tongue does get forced into the tube. Even while submerged, you cannot breathe through the snorkel. For that, you would need Scuba equipment. Hope this helps.David R : Hi Donna, Great questions! You made an excellent choice with this TUSA Hyperdry Elkite snorkel but you're justified to have some reservations. Your tongue can be sucked rather far up the snorkel if you are not continuously brighting down on the mouth piece. I experienced this when snorkeling in Maui and my tongue ended up stretching half way up the snorkel resulting in my tongue being permanently lengthened. On the bright side, my wife now benefits from my stretched tongue and she doesn't seem to mind it at all ;-) To answer your other question, yes you can breathe underwater when submerged with this snorkel. It will provide you enough air for about 3 to 5 minutes depending on how heavy your breathing is. You must surface to get air thru the tube. Sounds like you need to scuba if you want to breathe under water. ;-)

Restricted Airflow

I used this snorkel for only a few minutes and realized it is no good for spearfishing, or any extensive snorkeling. Yes, it keeps the water out, but the airflow is restricted. When you come up from a long dive, you need max airflow, and this snorkel does not allow that. This dry snorkel would be good for a beginner who stays on the surface or does not go below the water for more than 10 seconds at a time. I will stick with my Aqua Lung Impulse 3 snorkel.

Lost at sea

What a great snorkel! Unfortunately, my husband lost his the first time he used it. The clip that came with it was useless. As he was walking out of the water he noticed it was gone. So sad. It was our first day of vacation. I had a different clip with me and was able to switch mine before mine got washed away too. It was a pleasure to use!!

TUSA Hyperdry Elite II Snorkel

I love this snorkel, I was able to go underwater without water getting in my mouth. The snorkel has a feature that allows you to blow the water out of the mouthpiece if water did get in the snorkel. Excellent design, I would definitely purchase this snorkel again.

TUSA Hyperdry Elite II Snorkel Review - Scuba Gear Reviews

Just got back from the Dominician Republic and used it for the 1st time. I have many snorkels and I even paid much $$ for a Super Dri snorkel which when I swim lets water into my mouth. This TUSA Hypergry cost less than 1/2 the price of the Super Dri but it works twice as good! It fits in my mouth and is super comfortable. Love you cant go wrong with this snorkel!!!

Dry Snorkel

Bought it for my non-diving wife. Tested it for myself during the dive trip. It is dry. It does work well. The top valve(s) does not stuck as I was afraid of. Light and flexible. Although it is not a crucial problem, it is designed as a one side snorkel - should be on the left side of the mask/head whereas I used snorkel on the right side for decades. Good product. Great price at LeisurePro.
