I bought the D5 computer last year as an upgrade to my Suunto Vyper Air that I bought ten years ago. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use if for diving because of the pandemic. I finally signed up for a liveaboard boat trip starting this Saturday. I bought a new battery for my transmitter POD and thought it might be a good idea to do an equipment check to make sure everything worked. Unfortunately my new D5 wouldn't pair with my POD transmitter. I re-read the manual several times, reviewed several Youtube videos and went to the Suunto site looking for a solution. I wasn't sure if it was my transmitter or my computer that was giving me the problem. I bought a new battery for my old Vyper Air to see if it would pair with my transmitter POD, which it did. I contacted Suunto to see what I needed to do to return my D5 under warranty. It was then that I learned that I had an 'old' transmitter that was not compatible with the D5, and that if I wanted to read my tank pressure using my D5, I would have to buy a new transmitter. There is no place on this product page where it clearly states that the D5 is not compatible with 'old' transmitters. I didn't even know there were two different types of transmitters. After wasting all this time trying to figure out what was wrong, I am now jumping out of my eyebrows trying to find a new transmitter pod for a diving trip that I am leaving for in five days.

Haven’t been able to go on a dive with it (looking forward to it) but so far looks great and is pretty simple to navigate, really intuitive. Love that it comes with the transmitter. The only thing missing from perfection is that it does not come with gps like the mk1 from garmin

Suunto D5 so i’ve had a D5 since April this year and i have been using it as my main dive computer since then i am a Padi MSDT and a technical diver who works in liveaboareds in the Red sea i’ve been diving for the last 21 years and always been a big fan of Suunto for the D5 i loved how slick it looks and the big screen and digits and colors makes it look so cool smart watch cool using it for Air and Nitrox is very reliable and i loved how simple the interface is i’ve also been using it with the tank pod which is great but that’s about it for the likes it’s nice and easy and simple to use but as we get more in the details and technicalities i started to be a bit disappointed for starters is it a dive watch or not coz i find it really annoying that i have this very cool gadget but once i’m down diving it can’t tell me the time !!!! it gives all the data you need as bottom time and deco info and compass and air and it’s even got a timer but i wanna know what time is it during the dive and i cannot!!!! then comes the tank pod pairing i like it but once i set the air alarm on 35 bars it gives me the alarm like every minute once i get there and the alarm takes the entire width of the screen what if i am holding my smb with the other hand and i’m not free to press the button to remove the alarm and need to know my air or my safty stop time , and the buttons them selves they are nice and easy to press but the location they are located is not very convenient cos if i press my rest to the computer it presses the button i think if they are located at the top of the computer might be a bit better the last thing though is the mix gas mode i know it’s not a technical dive watch but it got a mix gas mode and as a technical diver it intrigued me to use it’s very easy to use and simple to set but if i am a technical diver and i have my own plan for the dive and mixes i have i definitely don’t want you to tell me each time i reach a depth that is fit to a gas i set up that you tell me to switch to it by a screen wide alarm i have a plan and i’ll switch when i want to you don’t have to tell me thank you

Bought as a free diving watch, and it does what it is supposed to do very well. The large case is impressive, and it can be worn as a contemporary all day watch. A few things i don't like about it. The plastic quality looks cheap to me (it might not be, but it looks like). I would like to have some extra watch faces, as well as a call answer-reject feature with a smartphone connection. The extra long strap should have been a standard in the package (it is a dive watch right?) Finally WHY DON'T YOU GIVE THE HELLENIC (GREEK) LANGUAGE AS AN OPTION?????? WHY??? you have any major and minor language of the EU and more, and not Greek??????? WHY????? Please, take all these in mind at a future upgrade-update of the firmware. It looks great in the everyday look. And it is perfect for your recreational dives.

As the owner of two other Suunto Dive computers, a Mosquito and a Cobra (Type 1), I find it unneceralily gadgety. On the plus side, the color display is easy to read while diving and provided info is easy to understand at a glance. The air integration is a desirable feature although it comes at a price (I haven't tried it yet tho as my Cobra provides this). The compass seems to be a good feature, albeit it's complicated. Much better to use a simple magnetic compass with graduated bezel on on your watch strap. The ability to diaplay a profile of your dive on the face is a nice feature bit I'd gladly trade it for a replaceable battery. Straps easily replaceable although OEM ones expensive. Generic ones fit tho. On the minus side: The watch is a battery hog. You will be limited at best to 11 hours bottom time but it won't let you dive with two hours of battery remaining. Be prepared to have a way to recharge it on a long trip. With the dive features and connectivity switched off you can expect about a week to ten days of battery with only watch functionality. The alarm clock is pathetic, virtually inaudible and the vibration inperceptible. Chronograph function limited to 9:59h.

I have a bunch of dive computers. I truly love this one. I have about a dozen dives on this computer now but the true test was night diving. Night diving is my most favorite thing and this computer was bright, readable, absolutely perfect for night diving. As a female the size is actually bigger than my wrist, but as a cold water diver it isn't bigger than my wrist + 8mm neoprene. I bought a dive computer, not a wrist watch and I truly love it. This is my 3rd SUUNTO dive computer because I always dive with 2 dive computers and an analog SPG. This computer is truly amazing and the POD tracks tank pressure much better than the old transmitters. This is truly an amazing dive computer.

There are two disturbing facts. The first is that the original strap is too short. It bearly locks in my hand so I had to use the extension strap just to wear it as a watch. When this is supposed to be used over thick wetsuits why didn't anyone think for a longer strap? The second disturbing point is the compass. After a few days of owning the computer I still have not managed to callibrate it and get it to work. Maybe when I leave the city and its magnetic fields it will work...

Just got this D5 and setup is super simple and intuitive. Easy to create custom modes and download to the watch. I will be using this in the pool with a custom created "pool" mode, recreational diving with modified screens and as a backup for tec in gauge mode. Readability, functionality, usability and good looks are what I was looking for in the D5,
